Our featured 2008
NFL mock draft is by Matt Chase.
Miami could pick first and Matt
thinks they will take Jake Long, OT, Michigan.
He says "With the NFL Draft just around the corner, NFL team’s boards are set as they look to improve their current rosters so that they can be playing for the ultimate prize. Miami holds the first pick after dubiously completing arguably the worst NFL season ever. The speculation is over as the Dolphins have chosen Jake Long to fortify ther O Line and have already agreed to a contract. As far as need is concerned the Fins made the pick that made the most sense in drafting Jake Long who will at worse be a dominant R OT in the NFL and has the potential to be a real good L OT. This obviously fills a HUGE void for Miami where their O Line is arguably the weakest in the NFL. Currently they employ Vernon Carey on the left side, who is better suited to play OG. Due to the Dolphin’s lack of options at OT, they could certainly put Carey at R OT, and let Jake Long hold down the blind side for their QB and be their cornerstone as they rebuild. Jake Long is the best O Line prospect in this draft class, as he is powerful at the point of attack (namely at run blocking) with great strength. He isn’t as good as last years #1 OT and Pro Bowler Joe Thomas, but he is not that far away from him either and would have been a top 5 pick last year had he come out early (#5 to Arizona over Levi Brown). Long may not be an ideal L OT because his feet aren’t as quick as you would like, but as mentioned above, a worse case scenario is that he will be a dominant R OT for the next decade. The traditional blueprint for rebuilding is to start from the line of scrimmage and I think a purest like Parcells chose to adhere to that. In Miami’s case this makes more sense than drafting a pass rusher like Chris Long and Vernon Gholston. The Dolphins couldnt trade down, and if they did they would most likely have not been abe to get their guy. It is strange to sign someone soo early prior to draft day, but I can appreciate how both sides came together so there is no holdout (a la JaMarcus Russell).

A Scouting
Report on Brian Brohm
by Ben Broman |
| Pros:
Veteran, tested QB. Good football IQ, student of the game. Very good measurables. True leader. Strong arm, can make most throws. |
| Cons:
Questionable footwork. Often-injured. Feet of lead. |
| Overall:
A solid QB with good genes, if he can toughen up and work on his footwork, he'll be a perennial All-Pro. Should be the first QB taken in the draft. (Hello, Atlanta and former coach Bobby Petrino?) NFL Comparision: The young Drew Bledsoe. |

A Scouting
Report on Felix Jones
by Anonymous |
| Pros:
Lighting Fast Back with Nfl Size. Proven outsider runner. Great Kick returner with proven results. Led the nation in rushing average in 2007 at over 9.0 yards per carry. |
| Cons:
Very few opportunities between tackles to prove he can be an every down back. Not a proven reciever since Arkansas rarely throws the ball. A lot of unknowns but potentially could be strong in all areas. |
| Overall:
At the very least, would be a Great Kick Returner at the NFL level, and a good back for 5-15 carries per game. At best could be a starting running back for a team that runs a lot of spread like Green Bay or Dallas or NE. |

A Scouting
Report on Limas Sweed
by Michael McCuller |
| Pros:
A bigger reciever, at 6'5", that may excell in jump-ball situations in the red zone. Physical, with ability to cover the middle of the field. Great hands, and can be used in alternative positions, such as TE for max protect formations. |
| Cons:
Not overly speedy or shifty, relies on height more than route running or quickness. |
| Overall:
Overall, great prospect for the NFL, as bigger recievers always are looked at as offensive threats. Look for Titans to take Sweed in first round, possibly to give Young more comfort in recieving core |

Another great 2008
NFL mock draft is by Bryan Pinkston.
St. Louis could pick second and
Bryan has
them picking Chris Long, DE, Virginia.
Pinkston says
"I stated earlier that C. Long wasn't fast enough to play in a 4-3, but he has been working out heavily since the season ended and it showed at the combine. He dropped his weight to a lean 272 lbs. and has become a very well rounded DE, combining athletism with his high motor (4.21 short shuttle, 4.71 40 and a 34" vertical). The Rams currently have L. Little manning RDE, but he is coming of injury and only has one more year on his contract. A player of Long's calibur will be too tempting to pass up. "

Mike Jendrycki
adds to the mock drafts with his 2008
NFL mock draft. Atlanta could pick third and
Jendrycki has
them picking Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas.
Jendrycki reports
the following on the Falcons pick...
"The Falcons desperately need an offensive centerpiece, and whether that be at running back or quarterback they're in a good spot here. Winning the coin toss with the Raiders and Chiefs makes this a harder decision since the best running back and quarterback will both probably still be on the board. I really think, looking at what AD and the Vikings did last year, that the Falcons will take McFadden because a running back can contribute so much more quickly than a quarterback can. Plus, it looks like there will be a lot of good quarterbacks available in the second round. McFadden is just an all around beast. He showed his freakish athleticism at the combine, but he’s not one of those guys whose stock shoots up just because of his athletic performance. He’s a two-time Heisman runner-up, so you know he’s not a one year wonder. At Arkansas he showed that he could do anything you’d ask a running back to do, whether that be run, block, or receive, and he’d immediately be the star of this team and would start drawing fans back for the Falcons. His only real concerns are his character and his weight for being a tall back, and the character concerns will be something a team like the Falcons will look into. However, I think he’s just too good of a prospect to pass up. Matt Ryan is definitely a possibility here but for right now McFadden is just too good of a value. "
