| 1. | San Francisco 49ers | Alex Smith, QB Utah |
| Smart and doesn't throw a lot of picks or get sacked a lot. Touchdown to interception ratio has been great the last two years. At Pro-Day Alex Smith was tremendous, he was the best since Troy Aikman. The 49ers are a rebuilding team that could draft almost any position and easily defend the pick as a must have. Trading down is a major possibility, as they are in need of more players at the time. But I think they will not trade down and go for Smith as the franchise quarterback they\'re in need of. Both Smith and Rodgers had a tremendous Pro-Day, and neither really separated themselves from the other. |
| 2. | Miami Dolphins | Ronnie Brown, RB Auburn |
| A "does it all back". Terrific size, speed,
and power. Runs defenders over. Good blocker and receiver out of the
backfield. Brown showed that he is the best RB at the combine. The
Dolphins are having a war with cap room and the cap room is winning.
They are well over in the cap, and with Edgerrin James being franchised
by the Colts it’s hard to imagine them signing one now. |
| 3. | Cleveland Browns | Aaron Rodgers, QB California |
| Very accurate with a strong arm. Ability and desire to be a franchise quarterback. With an aging Trent Dilfer in and Jeff Garcia out, they should have problems when it comes to the QB spot. I don't see a McCown or Harris era in Cleveland so quarterback is a BIG need along side the aging offensive line. Now I know what you're thinking. Romeo Crennel is defensive minded, but Aaron Rodgers will solve the long term QB issue. |
| 4. | Chicago Bears | Braylon Edwards, WR Michigan |
| Speedy and makes big time plays. He has great size, hands, and he is just a tremendous athlete. Rex Grossman has some durability issues but he is smart with the ball and accurate. He has done a good job with nobody to throw to in Chicago being left with Bobby Wade and Justin Gage. If Grossman or even Craig Krenzel are going to have productive careers then they need someone to throw to. They're in need a WR that can make immediate impact. Mushin Muhammad is a great addition to the team, but WR is still their biggest need. They have no depth at WR, and the leading receiver last year in David Terrell was released creating a huge void for a #2 possibly a #1 wide receiver. |
| 5. | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Carnell Williams, RB Auburn |
| Smaller frame, makes people miss. He has great balance and athletic ability. You can't tell me that RB isn't a glaring weakness for Tampa Bay. Michael Pittman is a talented RB when he's not having off the field issues, but definitely not a great back that teams game plan to stop. "Cadillac" has been a favorite of Gruden since the Senior Bowl. It will be a tough decision for Gruden between Carnell Williams and Mike Williams. |

| 6. | Tennessee Titans | Alex Barron, OT Florida State |
| Best tackle in the draft. Quick feet, good height, and great pass protector. Depth across the offensive line is in need of multiple upgrades where injuries killed them last year. They have a workhorse in the backfield with Chris Brown and he can only get better when this offensive line is healthy and improved. The Titans have said the want Barron, and with Fred Miller gone and possibly Brad Hopkins why not go for Barron as the franchise left tackle. Now it may be a slight stretch but he has all the physical tools wanted in an OT. |
| 7. | Minnesota Vikings | Mike Williams, WR USC |
| The size and skills you look for. Throw it up he will catch it. More of a possession wide receiver lacks blazing speed. However he did lose 20 pounds during his off time, which made him quicker. In my opinion I think they should be going with Derrick Johnson here because their defense would be tremendous, especially after signing Darren Sharper and Fred Smoot completing their defensive backfield. With Nate Burleson being something special, and Kelly Campbell, Marcus Robinson, and Travis Taylor behind him I see another productive season from Culpepper. But I just have a gut feeling that Minnesota will go for Williams. |
| 8. | Arizona Cardinals | Cedric Benson, RB Texas |
| Terrific size, powerful, and can break long runs. Just like Ronnie Brown he has all the tools to dominate in the NFL. The future looks good with wide receivers Boldin and Fitzgerald, so Kurt Warner shouldn't have any trouble through the air. The glaring need for Arizona is at RB with Emmitt Smith's retirement, and they don't have any depth at the spot. The Cardinals would love to upgrade their below average running game with Benson. |
| 9. | Washington Redskins | Antrel Rolle, CB Miami (FL) |
| A lockdown corner who can also step up and stop the run. Good blitzer, nice size and speed. The defense is starting to fall apart with Fred Smoot and Antonio Pierce gone, and they need to address the CB issue opposite of Shawn Springs. It will be an easy choice if the best CB in Rolle is still available here. |
| 10. | Detroit Lions | Derrick Johnson, LB Texas |
| Everything you look for in a linebacker. Makes plays all over the field and forces a lot of fumbles. Why not take the best defensive player in the draft? The Lions need upgrades at both OLB spots, and the depth at both OLB positions is untalented. |
| 11. | Dallas Cowboys | Shawne Merriman, LB Maryland |
| Always improving, nice speed. He is terrific pass rusher. This guy proved himself at the combine. Dexter Coakley is gone leaving a gap to fill at LB. They have young talent in Kalen Thornton and Bradie James but they will be battling for the ROLB spot. They need to upgrade their group of aging WR's and drafting one is very likely. Anthony Henry was signed to fill the void at CB opposite of Terrance Newman where injuries killed them. |
| 12. | San Diego Chargers (From NYG) | Marcus Spears, DE LSU |
| Has produced in big games and against tough competition. Terrific size, good pass rusher, and solid against the run. He would fit well in a 3-4 or a 4-3. With this pick they would like to go with Edwards or Williams but they should be well gone at this point. Alex Barron is another possibility here. |
| 13. | Houston Texans | Travis Johnson, DT Florida St. |
| Nice size and speed for the position. Amazing senior year, has had problems off the field and shoulder problems though. The good thing about Johnson is that he can play DE as well. They are in need of help on the O-line and D-line, and with Barron off the board they take care of the defensive line troubles. |
| 14. | Carolina Panthers | Troy Williamson, WR South Carolina |
| He is a big play threat. He has great speed, and nice size. He keeps getting better, fastest WR in the draft. With versatile Mike Wahle getting signed that takes care of most of the problems on the offensive line. Now WR is the biggest need as Mushin Muhammad is a Bear and depth at that position is below average. |
| 15. | Kansas City Chiefs | Pac-Man Jones, CB West Virginia |
| Terrific athlete with great speed. Talented returning kicks. Lays out opponents with big hits. Now I know what you're thinking. "He must be a Chiefs fan for Pac-Man to fall to the Chiefs." I can assure you I'm not. The Chiefs are simply amazing on offense, from the line to the skill positions. It is a no-brainer to tell you that the Chiefs biggest needs are on the other side of the ball. Dick Vermeil knows that defense can win you championships. After a long touchdown pass from the opposing team, which fans have gotten used to, he just simply stands on the sideline with a surprised look on his face with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. Dick you shouldn't be surprised, it's not any ones fault but yours that you ignored the defensive needs last year. It's a team needing a few playmakers on defen
se for them to get back to their winning ways. The defense is incapable of stopping the pass. |
| 16. | New Orleans Saints | Thomas Davis, S Georgia |
| Best safety available. Solid tackler, great run support. He has great size and range, and is also very strong. He can play S or LB very well, taking away needs at both positions. It is defense for Jim Haslett yet again. Bringing in Mike McKenzie from Green Bay at mid-season has helped at cornerback. They need another LB to compliment last years pick of Courtney Watson and complete the LB unit. |
