Okay, friends, if you read last week’s rendition of the waiver wire, then you know I’m not big on reserving a Fantasy Super Bowl for Week 17. I don’t mean to spew too much haterade, but multiple fantasy studs didn’t even put in a full day’s work in Week 16. Given that there are more meaningless games this week than last, look for that part-time – or no-time – trend to continue.
That said, there will be a depth-chart switcheroo for teams electing to rest their starters. And even though I’m not big on sitting guys who got you to the championship game, there are some free agents worth inserting into your lineup. Because this is the last game of the fantasy season, I will consider only players who could have a legitimate impact on your Super Bowl.
Donald Brown, Running Back, Colts
Brown, who missed five games in this his rookie season, finally appears healthy. He didn’t have a great game against the Jets - he totaled just 34 yards with a 1-yard touchdown run to boot - but he did get set a career-high with 16 touches. Look for bigger contributions from Brown this weekend against Buffalo, which has one of worst run defenses in the league. And with Indy resting Joseph Addai, Brown’s numbers from last week should increase across the board.
Brandon Jackson, Running Back, Packers
A comfortable lead for Green Bay quickly turned into a 48-10 rout – mostly because of Jackson. Appearing in relief of Rayn Grant, Jackson had five carries for 20 yards and two touchdowns and added three receptions for 19 yards and a score. With Green Bay having secured a Wild Card berth - and thus, curtailing the time Grant will see - it figures to employ Jackson early and often at Arizona on Jan. 3.
Beanie Wells, Running back, Cardinals
Wells has scored a touchdown in three straight games and tallied between 16 and 18 touches in each of those contests. Now the top back in the Arizona backfield, Wells figures to have another strong game this weekend against Green Bay.
Jermichael Finley, Tight End, Packers
Finley’s consistency is absurd. Over his last four games, he’s totaled between 70 and 80 receiving yards. Oh, and he’s also added three touchdowns. Yes, the Packers don’t have anything to play for, but they may want to still give Finley reps as the playoffs approach; after all, he did miss three games in the middle of the season.
John Kasay, Kicker, Panthers
With two field goals and five extra points against the G-Men on Sunday, Kasay showed why he is still in the league at age 40. Carolina hosts a reeling Saints team this weekend.
Good luck to all. And remember, go with Week 16 next year. |
