Jonathan is first and foremost a football fan. He prefers college football, but is a huge fan of the NFL as well, particularly the Dallas Cowboys.
He is the sports editor for the Big Spring Herald -- a daily newspaper in a small town of around 25,000 people. He's also a radio personality in Big Spring, providing color commentary for local high school football, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball games. He also helps broadcast JUCO basketball games and is on the verge of putting together his own local sports talk show.
He got his start into sports media by garnering his own sponsorship money for an hour-long sports radio broadcast each Saturday in Wichita Falls, Texas. Eventually, he started a sports blog on sportingnews.com as a branch from the radio show. At its highest popularity, his daily blog postings received over 2,000 reads.
However, it wasn't long after that when an unexpected opportunity arose. While he was attending Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, the sports editor position became available at the newspaper in his hometown of Big Spring. Through some local connections, he landed an interview with the paper's publisher and editor. They desired a young sports editor with local ties and the energy to pursue the demanding job.
Jonathan is coming up on his second year with the paper and his name is already very familiar to writers from bigger markets such as Midland, Texas; San Angelo, Texas and Abilene, Texas.
