Pros: Great blend of size, strength and speed. At 6 foot 4 inches and 230 pounds, the term "built like a linebacker" is an understatement. Understands coverage which allows USC to run the "2 deep zone" that just DOES NOT get beat deep. Extremely durable and plays through pain, having not missed a game since taking over the starting Free Safety position. Great potential.
Cons: Disappears through periods of the game. With that build and his football numbers that USC put out in the spring (i.e. 4.25 40 yard dash), Mays is not much of a playmaker. Has a Sean Taylor Esq. physique, but not nearly as rangy, nor as physically dominant at the point of attack. Takes bad angles which leads to a lot of garbage yards that could be avoided with the proper pursuit. Tends to come off a bit tight hipped. At time Mays is seemingly playing off sheer athletic ability, as opposed to football instincts and talent.
Overall: Overall Mays appears to have the potential to be a difference maker in an NFL secondary. Though he has yet to produce in terms of playmaking on the field during his tenure manning that USC secondary (albeit his JR year), with the proper coaching and the desire, Mays could see plenty of accolades. That is if his production can FINALLY match his athleticism.

Pros: Mays is an absolute athletic freak. He is built like a linebacker (6'3", 230 pounds) and runs like a cornerback (4.28 40 yard dash). Even in the NFL, he immediately becomes the best athlete on the field. Tremendous hitter and plays very well against the run.
Cons: Looks to make the big hit too often, when he could have made the interception. Is not a fundamentally sound tackler.
Overall: Overall, no one questions Mays' athletic ability. He should be drafted in the between the firth and fifteenth pick in the first round. Needs to be coached on looking to make more interceptions instead of making the big hit. With a little more coaching, Mays should be an instant star in the NFL.
