Mike Hart
Scouting Report by Mostly |
| Pros: Hart is a born winner. He was the emotional leader of the Michigan team for 4 years. He has great overall body strength, and keeps his legs moving. He has great body lean as well, and never goes down with first contact. Patient runner who sets up his blockers well. Hart catches the ball well out of the backfield. |
| Cons: Hart is not the fastest back in the world. In fact, he may be the slowest good back you have ever heard of. He doesn't make many moves in the hole, and rarely breaks a big one. |
| Overall: Hart's pros far outweigh his cons. He played for a high profile program, so NFL GMs are aware of him. He will get his chance down the road ala a Ryan Grant. I think in terms of physical skill he grades out as a 3rd or 4th rounder, but because of his competitiveness he will probably surprise some people at the combine and jump up as a late second round pick. Great kid, good back and ultra competitor. |
|
|
| Pros: Four year starter with a wealth of experience; strong for his size; has good break away speed and excellent footwork; good at making people miss; finishes runs hard. |
| Cons: Has had durability problems; is smaller than the average NFL back; has played his entire career behind a good offensive line. |
| Overall: The guy is similar in size and abilities to Tiki Barber (in my opinion). His experience and ability in the pass game (both blocking and recieving) are vital for a back in the NFL. He probably doesn't have the durability to be an every down back but could definitely be the "lightning" for a team that employs the ever popular two back system. I forsee him going (right now) between the mid 2nd and and late 1st rounds. A good showing at the combine and other workouts could boolster his ranking into the 1st round. His status will also be affected by several junior backs that may or may not come out. All in all, he's an early first day pick. |

|
| Pros: I have personally played against Mike Hart in high school. Hart is a true leader on and off the field. He has the ability to bring great moral to a team. Hart has the ability to make people miss, and for his vision on the field I would compare him to a Barry Sanders. Carries the ball well through the line of scrimmage runs low and is very hard to bring down. Is extremely quick, not fast but will be able to execute the inside run well. |
| Cons: One of the few problems I see with Mike Hart is the ability to run outside in the NFL. He does not have the extreme speed of a Steve Slaton. I'm not so sure that he would be able to make it around a DE with a 4.7 40yard dash. Mike has had some injury problems but I think this a sign of, off the field training issues. With a good personal trainer in the NFL, and a team that will cherish him (not saying that Michigan didn't) but, I think the injury risk will go away. |
| Overall: I'm not saying that Mike Hart is the best running back around, but if I was to pick a running back that I would want to have on my team. I would pick Mike Hart for a few reasons. His leadership skills just make him that much better. He is going to surprise a lot of people at the next level, like he has done throughout his career. Mike is a late first round pick and would be a steal for the Dallas Cowboys. Julis Jones will probably not be back next season. Mike Hart and Marion Barber would be an excellent two back combination in the NFL. Cowboys if you were smart you would pick Hart. |

|
| Pros: Mike Hart has established himself as a gritty running back. Despite his size, he has a tenacious attitude for winning. His motivation to finish every play, will certainly fit into any offense in the NFL. Hart is a shifty runner with above average speed, and explodes into defenders before contact. He is extremely consciencous with the football in his hands; allowing not one fumble at Michigan during regular season play. In his fours years with the Wolverines he has gained over 4,000 yards and scored 43 TD's. |
| Cons: Hart's frame may not attract scouts at first, which may keep him from being picked until the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft. His size may have an affect on pass blockers in the NFL, but wasn't too much of an issue in college. |
| Overall: Mike Hart should be a draft day steal, with scouts paying more attention to the talented backs of McFadden and Slaton. However, Hart is a determined back, that has proven that he can run through defenses despite overwhelming obstacles. His fearlessness will provoke teammates to step up to another level of play. |
|
|
| Pros: He has great hands for a back. His competitiveness is without question. He has more experience than any other top five back in this draft and he rarely fumbles. He reminds me of Tiki Barber with his great determination and vision. He is a solid runningback that has a well-rounded skill set. |
| Cons: He has no glaring talents. He is not the fastest back, nor the most powerful back. His agility is not what NFL teams want in a back. |
| Overall: Overall, He is definitely a top five back in this draft mainly because of his success at Michigan. As a graduating Senior, he has great leadership and a factor that does not show at the combine, HART. |
