Pros: Silva, BC's leading tackler this season with 115 (75 solos, 40 assists), leads the team and is tied for 10th in the country with six interceptions. He was a finalist for the 2007 Jim Thorpe Award and earned All-ACC first-team honors. Last week, Silva was named to the Walter Camp All-America first team. He hits hard, plays with passion, and is always around the ball.
Cons: He is a gambler and can be miss the big hit or interception. His speed is suspect for the NFL and it remains to be seen if he can cover the faster tight ends and slot recievers, let alone the real wide receiver speed burners
Overall: It is difficult to understand why this player has not received more attention, particularly when you note the lack of top level safety talent in the2008 draft. If Jamie Silva has a good combine, and can show a sub 4.5 40, watch his stock rise immediately. He was a leader on an overachieving BC team, is a true ball hawk, and was recognized as First Team All American...whats not to like. If people are doing their homework, he is an early 3rd rounder. If a team really needs a safety, they could do much worse than selcting Silva in the second round.
