Thinking about proposing a trade
I'm thinking about proposing a trade to the team below. He is struggling with his WRs, and has great RB depth. The only problem is that I play him this week, but not again unless we meet in the playoffs. This would be a perfect time to propose a trade since he has to make a move now for WR help (Gonzalez is still out, Mason is on bye, Cotchery is likely out), but I don't know if I should propose a trade before we play this week.
Anyway, his team is below, mine is in the signature. I'd prefer to hold onto Fitzgerald, Johnson, Jones, and Rodgers, but would consider trading one if the price was right.
QB: Donovan McNabb, Ben Roethlisberger
RB: DeAngelo Williams, Steve Slaton, Pierre Thomas, Ray Rice, Knowshon Moreno
WR: Steve Smith (Car), Anthony Gonzalez, Derrick Mason, Jerricho Cotchery
TE: Brent Celek
K: Jay Feely
DEF: Vikings, Saints

They sound a little high to me, but that's good for a first offer. I'll give it a shot, see how he responds. Thanks.

So, it looks like a trade is not going to get done here. I proposed the first, he declined, I proposed the second, and he countered:
I Give: Chad Ochocinco
I Get: Knowshon Moreno, Saints DEF
Obviously, he doesn't want the WR help and is content to hold on to his RBs. I'm turning this down because I'm not giving up a guy who will start every week for a guy who will start some games at flex (maybe 2nd RB in good weeks) and a defense.

Def a bad play. I wanted to pick up Moreno last week but couldn't get the trade. Turns out he was only good for 4 points anyway. He's a great rookie, but like you said, he's not a def starter like Ocho. I also have the Saints D, and although they've done well so far, I think there 15 point average has come to an end. What about Edwards and Kevin Walter for Pierre Thomas? Truth is your back up wide receivers suck and no one will probably want them...

I admit that my backups aren't great, but that's not the point. Here are the reasons it was possible a deal could have worked here:
- He only has 1 startable WR for the weekend and needs 2 (unless he's willing to take 0 points from 1 position).
- To pick up a WR from the free agent pool, he'll have to drop someone, and whoever he drops, he's going to lose some value (most likely, it will be the Saints or Vikings DEF).
- In the case of Moreno, I was offering to trade for his #5 RB, a guy who will most likely never start for him, as the 4 RBs ahead of him are clearly better.
- The offer is essentially a flex-type RB for a flex-type WR. He needs WR depth, I need RB depth. 1-to-1 trades are never equal, but sometimes you have to give up player value for position value.
As it stands, I didn't need this trade anyway, I was just hoping to improve RB depth. When I think about it, with the usual starters, this team is pretty solid and is 2nd in this league for total points scored. I don't have much for depth if players go down, but I think it's a solid team for now.

I wouldn't take Ocho for Rice if I was him either. Rice has more receptions than Ocho, not that less of receiving yardage, plus his rushing yards. Rice is definately a hot commodity right now, and shouldn't be dealt for anything less than a true stud receiver (i.e. Fitzgerald, Megatron, Moss, etc)
You're better off trying to snag PT or Slaton while their stock is still relatively low.
