The Minnesota Vikings met on Wednesday with free agent quarterback Mike McMahon, who was released by Philadelphia this week.
After four seasons with Detroit, starting three games in 2001 for the Lions and four games in 2002, McMahon spent last year with the Eagles under offensive coordinator Brad Childress -- who is now Minnesota's head coach.
McMahon, let go to make room for Jeff Garcia as the backup to Donovan McNabb, played in nine games for Philadelphia and went 2-5 as a starter after McNabb was out with a sports hernia. He completed 94 of 207 passes (45.4 percent) for 1,158 yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Having traded Daunte Culpepper, the Vikings are in the market for a backup to Brad Johnson. They talked with Craig Nall last week, but he signed with the Buffalo Bills.
