Default Another coaching move

Mike Nolan is the latest coach to get the axe before mid season. Of course, the two before him were the Ram's Scott Linehan and the Raider's Lane Kiffin. Matt Millen, the Lions GM, was also fired early on in this season.

What is with this trend? I don't understand how teams could believe that putting in an interim coach will benefit the team at all.

However we all know this is a copycat league, so who do you all expect to go next? Rod Marinelli? Brad Childress? Herm Edwards? Mavin Lewis? Wade Phillips?

It's working for the Rams, though. Haslett has really got that team playing with a lot of heart.

It doesn't always work, but it can. And that's being proven in St. Louis right now.

Honestly I don't think we get any more firings during this season, Wade Phillips is the only one I can see getting fired in-season on that list if the Cowboys swoon continues. I think all the names on that list may be out of a job at the year's end, sans Herm Edwards, I think the owners in KC like Herm and understand hes got almost nothing to work with this season.

And on a side-note if I was Marvin Lewis I would give serious thought to quitting in Cincy, the guy is a great football coach IMO and has gotte na very raw deal in Cincy. He wanted to rebuild the image of that team and change the roster over into character guys that were hard-nosed, tough, intelligent football players and the GM and ownership cut down all authority and credibility he had by bringing in the guys they have. I hope in the future Marvin can get a HC job with an organization that will let him flourish

I agree somewhat. Scott Linehan has always been a very horrible coach, whether that be as a head coach, coordinator, etc.

But remember, this has only been 2 games, one against a very uninspired Dallas team. History has shown that interim coaches have never turned teams around, possibly because the talent on those teams just weren't good enough, however no interim coach has ever made a quick fix and brought there team to the playoffs.

Again, not saying it can't happen, however I just don't know that firing a coach midseason is the best decision to make. The offseason is a much better time to make a coaching change, as you will then have ample time to make the right decision on a replacement and will give that coach enough time to install his philosophy and playbook.
