Haha. You'd definitely wouldn't find me at the office. Too many sporting events to attend this time of year. But thanks for your concern... I think.
* As a Cowboys fan, I am concerned for those who act more die hard than I do. Many are starting to abandon all hope. I'll hold out mine to see how the Cowboys react to Brad Johnson, who is still a solid quarterback. In some ways, this could be a good thing. It definitely takes some playmaking ability off the field. At the same time, it also eliminates some mistakes Romo makes. Johnson will definitely play a safe game and I think he'll surprise some with his arm strength.
* Another reason why I'm not in panic mode is that we were all reminded this week that this is still the NFL. It's an unpredictable league. St. Louis upset the Redskins. Atlanta is 4-2 as are the Cardinals. I'm watching Cleveland on the verge of topping the Giants. Who is the best team in the league now? Truth be told, none of us know. There are 11 weeks of play left this season and a lot of surprises yet to happen.
* Let the records show, I predicted at least one of this weekend's upsets and I think it would be viewed as the one most unlikely. I said in the FFJ Pigskin Picks that the Browns would top the Giants.

Just patting myself on the back when opportunity rears its head.
* Picking the Browns was nothing more than a gut feeling. I'm not saying my gut is always correct. There's about 60 excess pounds on it that says it's usually wrong. However, the upset just further proves my point. There is not a team this season that is the class of the NFL. There are definitely some we can discount as not on that level.
However, there are a lot of teams deserving consideration. Someone posted a thread naming the Giants as the class. They aren't yet. They get the benefit of the doubt because they won a Super Bowl. That defense was proven susceptible to the passing game which is what I've been preaching about them for weeks. That pass rush is not the same and it was contained tonight. Maybe everyone forgot, but the Browns have a very good OL. That exposed the Giants subpar secondary. The G-Men simply hadn't been tested. Someone will throw the Redskins out there. Those Redskins were badly coached. They are better than they played the first week.
The point is every team has some obvious vulnerabilities and every team is scrambling trying to cover up its weakness and not let any others rear their ugly heads in the process. The team most successful at this is the one that will win the Super Bowl.
Who has been the best at this so far? The Tennessee Titans. Give it time, though. That could change.
* Were you guys really buying into the whole Peyton won't be the same this entire season line? C'mon guys. Don't be naive. He's Peyton Manning. One of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. All week we were treated to a variety of columns calling Eli better than Peyton. He certainly wasn't this week. There's a reason why Eli is married to a woman and Peyton isn't. Peyton is married to football. That's the marriage that will always keep the older Manning a step ahead.
* I am cheering hardcore for Atlanta. That's something I never did with Vick at QB. There's so much to like about that team. I loved Matt Ryan coming into the draft, but was a little apprehensive about him being a successful NFL QB. He throws one of the prettiest deep balls in the game, though, and that's perfect for the WRs he has with the Falcons, particularly Roddy White.
* Collectively, this was the most entertaining weekend of football -- college and pro -- of the year. It's going to be hard to top. BTW, I'm glad the pollsters got it right and made Texas No. 1 in the NCAA ranks. I'm not a Longhorns fan at all. Hate them actually. But they deserve to be No. 1. However, another No. 1 will be knocked off this weekend. Chase Daniel and Mizzou are going to keep messing everything up for the BCS.
