Default Week 1 thoughts

I figure it'd be nice to post some thoughts about what each of us observe each week. Here are some of my thoughts through the first string of games Sunday.

* Who was more dominant, the Eagles or Steelers? I'd go with the Eagles. Donovan McNabb looked like the MVP caliber player he used to be. And by the way, I told you guys DeSean Jackson was going to be a good fantasy option three weeks ago. He was killer. Eagles are the second best team in the NFC East.

* Tennessee should just leave Vince Young on the sidelines. Kerry Collins comes in, throws two passes and essentially wins that game for the Titans. If Vince stays in that game, he doesn't complete that pass on 3rd and 15. Jax gets the ball back down 10-7 and get a chance to win. Instead, Collins hits a big 44-yard pass to Scaife and then another 19 yarder to Gage. White scores, essentially puts the game away.

* Offensive line problems abound for the Jags, Seahawks and Rams. The Jags can overcome some of those troubles because of David Garrard's mobility. The Rams are lost without their OL, but some of the problems they had were due to an impressive Philly pass rush. Seattle still can't run the football. The NFC West is weaker than I think was originally speculated and everyone was already bashing them.

* All this said, it really is hard to make great statements about teams after the first week. More thoughts to come from me. I hope everyone else contributes, too.

My main thoughts:

-I think the biggest story is Brady. if he misses any significant time, it could force the Pats to maybe lose some games and end up with a Playoff game on the road because of it. If they even make it in. Obviously this all depends on the severity of the injury

-Loved watching Favre today. He made some fantastic throws and led the team very well. Major props to Revis for that great INT at the end

-Who would have thought that Philadelphia would look that dominant, or that the Rams would look that great?

-Impressive win for Buffalo. I feel so bad for Matt Hasselbeck, the only WR he ahd left was Burleson, and he left the game early.

-Michael Turner, Michael Turner, Michael Turner. Yes, it was the Lions, but man anytime someone rushes for 200 yards and 2 scores that is amazing

Quick comments on the Giants/Redskins game from Thursday...

* One of the worst coached games I've ever seen and I'm talking about Jim Zorn. It was pathetic. Why was this guy given the job after not even being a coordinator? Nice job Dan Snyder. As a Cowboys fan, I love the move. If I'm a Skins fan, though, I'm ticked off. Zorn was in over his head and it showed. That offense had no chemistry or flow. Down by two scores with 4 minutes to play and you are calling run plays and taking your time in the huddle?! What?! Pathetic.

* The sad part is that Washington could have won that game because other than Plaxico and Brandon Jacobs, the Giants' offense was just as bad. Eli didn't look sharp to me. A lot of his passes were floating. Four of his throws probably should have been picked. Based on that game and the way Dallas and Philly has played today, I think it's obvious who the top two teams in the NFC East are and neither of them played on Thursday.

I'm a Pats fan and man does that hurt. Your right Jet the Pats are screwed if he misses significant time. Although I was suprised to see Cassels do as well as he did. Two big turn overs in this one Welker and then Moss on 15 yard line. I was pretty impressed with the deffense today.

One of the biggest surprises for me was Tuner I'm going to call him "Jet Burner Turner" if he continues.

McNobb was great today but like cub said hard to judge in the first week. That was the old McNabb but will it continue or are we going to see the McNobb from 2006 up and down.

Notes on the second tier of Sunday's afternoon games...

* I saw a lot of NFL football today thanks to the Sunday Ticket I can watch online. I didn't see an OL more dominant than Dallas' against Cleveland. They didn't surrender a single sack and averaged 5.4 yards a rush. I'm big on OL play. It's the basis for great NFL teams. Dallas is a great team because of that OL.

* Marion Barber left early with a rib injury. Don't know how severe it is. If he's out, Dallas will use a combo of Felix Jones and Tashard Choice. For the record, there wasn't a time share while Barber was in the game. Jones didn't get a carry until he was out. Jones looked good because of the OL. He still can't break tackles, though. That OL opened some huge holes for him and he hits them fast. As soon as he's touched, he's down. Choice is a more powerful runner. He had some very nice runs late in the game. They'll make a good tandem if Barber is hurt. However, where Dallas really loses with Barber out is in pass protection. Romo's only interception was because of Jones being tossed aside like a rag doll by Willie McGinest. That doesn't happen to Barber, who is one of the best pass blocking RBs in the league.

* Anyone else notice that if you put a Browns' helmet on Romeo Crennel, he'd look just like the Browns' mascot? He'll always be a part of the Browns' organization that way.

* Kudos to Arizona using an impressive ball control offense in the second half to keep San Fran's O off the field. Gore was killing Arizona, although Martz did get away from him for a long time when the Niners first had the ball in the third quarter. That's my worry with Gore. Martz gets bored calling plays for the RB.

* This is going to be Phillip Rivers' breakout season. That's why I like SD to win the Super Bowl. Rivers is finally a good enough QB to compliment LT and that stellar defense to get the Bolts a championship. He can now make the big plays when the Chargers need him to.

* How about a Dwayne Jarrett sighting in Carolina? Had 2 catches, 36 yards. Nice to see him on the field. I think he can be a nice addition for that WR corps.

* What a finish for the SD/Carolina game!! Delhomme looked great down the stretch. I don't know how he completed that game-winning touchdown. Great concentration by Dante Rosario, the former Oregon Duck tight end. Carolina's 2007 draft class paid some nice dividends in this game. Both Jarrett and Rosario were picks in the that class. Jarrett averaged 18 yards on his two catches and had a nice one on that final drive. Rosario caught the game-winning score and led the team with 7 catches for 96 yards.

Wild, wild finish to the CAR/SD game.

I hate to sound like a homer, but I have to say this:

The Jets next 2 games really scared me before the season started. Now all of a sudden we're facing a Brady-less Patriots team and a Chargers team that lost today. If Brady is out for any extended period of time, I seriously think we can win this division

Allow me to quell your homerness then.

I think Buffalo is the favorite if the Pats end up Bradyless. I like their defense and running game better. I do think both teams pass up the Pats without Brady, though.

I agree with cubbs. Buffalo was downright impressive in handling Seattle today. So was Pittsburgh in beating the Texans, who I had down for a playoff spot.
