ESPN Power Rankings
Most have probably already seen these, but why not discuss them since there are so many yawns.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerr...on=2008&week=0
1. Patriots
2. Colts
3. Chargers
4. Cowboys
5. Jaguars
6. Giants
7. Steelers
8. Seahawks
9. Browns
10. Packers
Any thoughts? Who should be higher/lower? Who should be #1? What is your top 5/10?
I think that the Texans should be a little higher. There are teams like the Cardinals (who might have a QB controversy), Bills (always inconsistent) and the Panthers should be behind them.
ESPN is riding the NFC East though. All 4 within the top 14. The Redskin, even at 14, with their comment of "too many questions" seems strange to me.
Lions are also a little lower then I thought. Normally they get that pre-season hype that bumps them up a few spots, but Kitna's guarantee seems to have bumped them down. I think they are better than a couple teams ahead of them.

Vikings #12 baby!
the Saints at #11 seems too high to me. Especially ahead of Minnesota and Philadelphia. Both Minni and Phili had better records last year, and made much bigger strides in the off season. Like Jared Allen, Asante Samuel, Randal Gay. Which one doesn't fit?

I agree, I think the Saints are too high. I think the Ravens are too high as well. And I also dont see why Atlanta is below Miami

Yea, Saints do seems high for a team that I don't remember doing that much. They were inconsistent as far as I remember, but they didn't do anything special. Haven't really followed their off-season as well, but I haven't really heard any big name free agent signings, so they can't be that much better than last year.

I like the Redskins where they are, I just dont believe the Giants to be #6. Are you serious?

umm... they did kind of win the superbowl... in case you didn't remember. They filled most of the holes but did lose some people. What they do have though is a now proven winning QB in manning who now has the expirience and confidence to be better than ever. Plus they still have one of if not the best front 4's in football with or even without strahan. Other teams are more talented, but I think 6 is a very good spot.
Pitt should be higher
Seattle a lil lower

couldn't disagree more. Pittsburgh is fine where they are, if not should be lower. The health of Willie Parker is uncertain, they let a possible future hall of fame G go, and instead franchised a player who is barely a starter. This was also a line that gave up a large amount of sacks to begin with last season. Charlie Batch better be ready to play a game or two.
And Seattle is perennially one of the most underrated teams in the league. Look at their last few seasons. Made it to the Superbowl, a field goal away from the NFC Championship, and last year not blowing a 14 point lead 4 minutes into the game. Every year it seems like everyone is predicting the Cards or Rams, and even the 49ers last year, to upseat the Seahawks. And it seems every year one of them ends up in the bottom 5 of the league, one in the bottom 10, and the other in the middle of the pack, while the Seahawks are still contenders come January.
If anything the Seahawks should be higher than the Steelers

Yes they did win the Super Bowl, but I still don't think they are the best team in football, much less the 6th best. The Giants are a talented team, but they had glaring holes that have yet to be addressed, not to mention the new holes that have yet to be addressed. Let's be honest, the Giants rode the Mo-train as the season progressed and were arguably the hottest team going into the playoffs. They will need more than just a solid D and an opportunistic O this year to get by. This is the NFL, 30 of the teams will be able to scheme against the Giants and the other will have them on tape.

The Giants rode a wave of hopes and dreams to a Super Bowl title. Manning will never play that well again, Strahan retiring would destroy the D-Line, the LB corps and secondary is really thin, and if you re-played the 4th quarter of that game 1000 times New England would win 999 times because there's no way Tyree makes that catch more than once

What I don't get is why the Chargers are behind the Colts still. They beat them twice this season, once in the regular season in San Diego and then again in Indianapolis with a lineup that should be the 3rd quarter of a preseason game (Billy Volek and Darren Sproles). For whatever reason no one will ever consider anything less of Patriots and Colts on top.
