Do the Lions have a chance in hell at making the playoffs?
I think they really could give it a good run this coming year. Thier loss column is misleading because a good number of those losses were by a fieldgoal or less I believe.

If they draft defense, and the quarterback situation is atleast stable, yes. I think that the young nucleus of this team is incredibly talented, and they just need to stay healthy. If Harrington can pull it together and hit his unbelievable recievers, this will be an explosive offense! If Derrick Johnson slipps down, Mooch had better draft this guy! He will be an animal, especially on turf! I would take Johnson in the 1st or Merriman if Johnson's gone, and Ernest Shazor in the 2nd. Throw Lehman in the middle with Bailey and Johnson on the outside....Wow! I'd maybe do CB in the 3rd, but this would be a defense with some playmakers on it. If the Lions want to get to the playoffs, Harrington is going to have to step up.

devman the ultimate lion hatter!
accept it devman, gb no longer runs the nfc north. The viks helped thier cause with that nice defense they have made during the off season.
As for our Lions we will pick at a wildcard or IF IF the moss loss is really key here we may win our division

The wild card maybe because the vikings will be very good next year , and green bay will also finish ahead of the lions IF they fix up that line and replace darren sharper (who went ot the vikings, making their defense frickin sweet)

If the lions get Johnson where is anyone going to run the ball against us? Your not getting outside with Bailey and Johnson out there. You aren't running up the middle with Wilkenson Rogers and Lehman/Holmes there. Redding is a good run stopper at left end and Hall is going to be one of the best ends in the league in the coming years. Not to mention the signing of Kennoy Kennedy helps out the run D tremendously.
The secondary is the question on Defense. Bly is a premier corner in the league and bryant played well below expectations last year but I think he can play better. Kevin Smith is going to be at least the nickle back and challenge bryant for the starting spot. The big hole on D is at FS. I think we have to address this in the second round. I wiould be extatic if we could get Pool. Cut Marion and keep Holt to clear some cap room. If our secondary steps up and we get Johnson look out. Another thing to look at is if Rolle is still there at #10. (which I think is more realistic because lots of teams have Jones as their #1 corner.) Now you have the option to put Rolle at FS or CB making the secondary solid. And you still have Bailey, Holmes and Lehman at LB respectively.
The offense is great at WR and RB. We need to add some depth at WR though. If pool is gone in the second and Matt Jones is still there they better take him. This guy is going to be the steal of the decade. Put him as a #3 reciever and let him come into his own behind Rogers and Williams. If Roger's bones shatter again he can come in and replace him at half the price of another 1/2 reciever. Plus there is always the option of talking him into bulking up and playing TE even though he said he doesn't want to do that. I will take Bradford or Hilliard as our 3 guy though. TE has been upgraded with Pollard but we could definatelly use some depth and a Run Blocker at that position. Our biggest weakness is OL. We filled a hole at gaurd just to get one at RT. Best option is to get a FA after the June 1st cuts. I don't like any of the top lineman in this draft. Barron is Stockar Mcdougle all over again. Has the potential but there is no intensity.
But the lions season rests on the QB position. How many times have we had to say that??? (Rodney Peete, Andre Ware, Scott Mitchell) This year is definately better though. Harrington KNOWS that if he doesn't get the job done this year and make more than minor improvements Garcia is going to be right there to step in. Garcia still has it. Anyone playing QB for the browns would have had a shitty year too. I don't count or discount a player over one year. Plus he is back in the system he loves.
The wild card in all this is Mooch. We HAVE to throw the ball down field more next year. If Rogers and Williams are healthy defenses are going to be stretched which leaves a lot of room for KJ, Pollard or our slot reciever to get open underneath.
The lions have a tough schedule next year. In our division I predict we will split with the vikes and sweep the Bears and Pack. (5-1 loft goal huh?) Outside our division though we have some tough tough games. At home we have:
Atlanta (Played in NFC title game. We win 6-1) Carolina (Severely depleted last year but were one of the hottest teams in the last few weeks of the Reg. Season. Are going to be very tough next year. We lose 6-2) Baltimore (They got better with Rolle and Mason in the offseason. Their hopes ride on the arm of Boller and the legs of JL. We lose 6-3) Cincinnati and Arizona (Both of these two teams are getting better and are going to surprise people next year. Beat Arizona lose to Bengles 7-4). Away we have: Pittsburgh (AFC title game last year. Lose 6-5) and Dallas (Another up and coming team with 2 1st round draft picks this year Kick their ass 7-5) We will sweep TB, NO and cleveland to go 10-5.
Good enough to make the playoffs.

Lions win the division
I have the Lions to win the division this year. The Pack and the Vikes are both on their way down. MIN will be close behind and still make the playoffs.
If Charles Rogers stays healthy, Harrington will look better. They would be best off trading Harrington and going with Garcia fo the year, taking a QB in the draft this year or next.
Either way, they'll be in the playoffs.
