An interesting point in the Lance Briggs scenario is that Cato June is still available. I know Briggs is better against the run, but the fact that I can get essentially the same player without having to trade anything is a little more compelling to me. Unless they are willing to part with Briggs for close to the same deal they got for Thomas Jones, I think teams would be much more willing to go after June as a FA.

Now all of this is mute if the Bears decide to just cut Briggs.

Great point. Trade Briggs for like a 2nd and I'm sure they'll be a market for him in that price range. Sign Cato June then who played in this system in Indianapolis.

So the player from the team the Bears just played in the superbowl, is going to take a low ball offer from his them, for what reason?

June is undersized though and I truly believe that is the main reason why he is still available. I'm sure many people view him as a 'system' guy (which of course can be said for Briggs, but he's not a converted player to his position) and I honestly think June will remain a Colt.

Personally, I think the Bears a screwing Briggs.

June is a system guy. Guess it's a good thing that Chicago and Indy run the same system though.

The franchise tag guarantees Briggs $7.206 million next season -- the average of the top five salaries for players at his position -- but it also deters other teams from signing him. The Bears could match any offer for Briggs or receive two No. 1 draft picks. If he sits out next season, the Bears could use the franchise tag again.

I strongly believe that Lance has truly pissed off the Bears organization now. Jerry Angelo has said he has no plans to trade Briggs. I think Briggs is going to hold out the entire year, and not get paid, because of the way he has handled this whole situation. And then I wouldn't be suprised if the Bears franchise him again the next year, at that point he'll almost have to play to get some cash or he won't get paid again. It null and voids a roster spot for the Bears, but I don't think they care, the comments he has made to the press about ongoing contract talks will oust him.
