Default Nate Clements a 49'er

Espn just announced that Clements signed a eight-year contract worth $80 million, that includes $22 million in guarantees. Making him the highest payed defensive player ever.

The niners have probly just made a huge mistake. Clements is being way overpaid.

This is one of the worst contracts in the NFL. With that kind of bonus the 49ers have just committed suicide for half a decade if Clements doesn't turn into a bonafide star. I didn't expect Asante Samuel to get a deal that big even. Terrible contract, not a bad signing, just a terrible contract.

He's being overpaid but he's arguably the best player available and the 49ers really wanted this guy. They made a run at him before the trade deadline this year but the Bills wanted a first or second round pick for him. The 9ers knew he would be available in FA so didn't make the deal.

They really wanted this guy and his rediculous contract proves it. Personally, I'm more intrigued by the Michael Lewis signing.

Think about the domino effect this contract could have. Now CBs that are definitely better than Clements, like Champ Bailey for example, will see how much he's making and then want the same amount of buck. I would not be surprised if Champ uses this as a bargaining chip for a new contract very soon.

The Packers just gave Al Harris a raise and it wasn't near the amount of this. I think it was like 7 mil in guarantees.

Personally I feel Harris is a better cover corner than Clements.

Yea when I heard the actual figure on ESPN I was like what did he just say? Made me get up and go check. Im really impressed with the moves the 9'ers are making to get this team into contention. Their not afraid to spend money unlike some teams. I know I will be rooting for them next year.
