Default New Cowboys Coach...

It broke yesterday that he was moving towards the front of Jerry Jones' wish list and then he's hired this morning. I don't hate the hire at all, but I really thought Norv Turner was going to get hired.

I heard they didnt want Turner because they want Jason Garrett to be the Offensive Coordinator, and they thought Turner might undermine Garrett with the playcalling. I think it's a good hire, Wade has had success with the 3-4.

BTW, did anyone else get confused with the new structure of the forum? I logged on and instantly became perplexed.

Not true...Norv wanted Garrett. He tried to get Garrett on his staff when he was coach at Oakland, but Miami beat him to him. Cleveland actually wanted to make a bid at Garrett this year, but Dallas locked him up too early. The real issue I think came with who Norv wanted as his defensive coordinator. Turner wanted Rivera, which would mean either having a 4-3 coach in charge of a 3-4 defense or switching to a 4-3 defense, which would set Dallas back a bit.

Phillips is a defensive genius though and he's had some success as a head coach. I think Buffalo made a mistake in firing him when they did. He turned that team around when he took over and had it not been for the Music City Miracle, he could've maybe made a run at the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the rest of his tenure was haunted by that single play. The fans, players and owner just couldn't forget about the heartbreaking play.

Dunno...my info is from the Dallas Morning News, Ft Worth Star Telegram and Ed Werder...The top 3 sources for anything to do with the Cowboys.

"In the end, Jones' preemptive strike to hire Jason Garrett from the Dolphins may have hurt Turner's candidacy.

Turner looked forward to coaching with Garrett, but that doesn't mean he wanted to share play-calling duties with him. Turner yearned for more authority during his head coaching stops in Washington and Oakland and may have asked Jones for too much"

Right...Jones said himself that he wanted Turner and Garrett to share the play calling duties at first. He wasn't sure if Garrett was ready for it. Turner did ask for more authority though including bringing in Rivera as his defensive coordinator. That was the biggest hitch here.

More importantly, the real winner here is the San Francisco 49ers and the real loser here is the San Diego Chargers.

The 49ers keep Turner and Singletary, they won BIG.
