Default San Diego to trade Donnie Edwards?

The San Diego Chargers are reported interested in trading linebacker Donnie Edwards. Several team, including the Minnesota Vikings, have apparently expressed interest in Edwards, but San Diego reportedly wants a second-round draft pick in return.

My question: Is Edwards worth a second-round pick?

I dont think he is worth the second round pick. Maybe the third we got from Seattle. He is a great player and would be supposedly the missing piece in the Tampa 2 but he is getting up there in age. I think we can draft someone better or even sign someone for less. Is he a great player? yes. Is he worth a second round pick? no.

Worth a 2nd... Definately.. He's a pro bowl caliber player. Very underrated. One of the better inside linebackers in the game.

i cant see tehm trading him, because this will be Godfrey's last year, and there is not depth at ILB in this year's draft, so i cant see them going with Godfrey and Phillips this year and sign a ILB next year, or draft one. They will NOT go back to a 4-3 defense, 3-4 has worked so well, and they likely dont want to ahve a DL of Olshansky, Williams, Castillo and Cesaire...

I would love for him to come to NE for our 2nd rounder. We're not going to find an instant star at LB in the second round.

Also, with an extra 3rd and 4th, it wouldn't hurt us that much.

Bruschi, Vrabel, Colvin, and Edwards. I definitely like the sound of that.

- yes indeed he's aging but he still plays the game with a passion that says he doesnt have to retire for quite sometime and because hes a great backer .. he is definately worth a 2nd round pick

There is no way the Chargers are trading Donnie unless its for another pro-bowl caliber LB. He's too important to the team to be traded and the Chargers aren't looking to rebuild, they are looking to win now.

Perhaps, but my source for this is the San Diego Union-Tribune (Apr. 14, 2006) which said that the Chargers GM confirmed that Edwards is on the trading block, and that the team wanted a Day-One draft pick for him. A later report (which I got from both KFAN AM 1280 in Minneapolis, MN and the Rumor Mill section of CBS Sportsline.com) stated more specifically, that the Chargers wanted a second-round pick for Edwards.

EDIT: Here's a link to the article: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports...4chargers.html
