Rookie Report
Nearly all of the team's 24 rookies reported to Valley Ranch on Monday for the start of their off-season conditioning program - the first day they were eligible to commence workouts.
The Cowboys welcomed 20 rookies back on Monday, including seven of the team's eight draft picks. Only fourth-round pick Chris Canty, a defensive end from Virginia, did not return. Canty will be undergoing a second eye surgery this week in North Carolina to further repair the detached retina in his left eye.
Missing the opening day of workouts were undrafted rookie running back Tyson Thompson (San Jose State), tight end Tony Curtis (Portland State) and safety Dominique Price (Northwestern) since their schools have yet to officially complete the semester. Thompson, from here in Irving, is expected to begin workouts next week.
The Cowboys are also planning to sign rookie defensive tackle Chris Van Hoy, one of the six rookies working out with the team during the rookie mini-camp. But semester finals have not been completed yet at Louisiana Tech, where Van Hoy played his college ball.
The Cowboys' next - and last - mini-camp is scheduled for May 27-29 at Valley Ranch, with a four-day teaching session to follow after Memorial Day.
