Jets Thoughts going into the season
I stole this idea from Black just for the record.
I like this team this year and I think we are going to be a very solid team.
I'm very impressed with the way Kellen Clemens is coming along (even though it is only preseason) and i think by next yearhe will be making a strong run at being the starting QB.
I like our Running Game. Jones will be back for week 1 and he is the workhorse RB that we needed last year. I'm really looking forward to watching Leon Washington this year ae is going to be a big part of the offense even as a backup. He has great moves and quickness and is very tough. He is the Jets Home Run threat and one of their biggest playmakers.
I think the WR core has very quietly become one of the best in the league. Coles is a very good possesion WR who will get his 1,000 yards receiving and I think Cotch is on his way to becoming a very good WR in this league and I think he will build on his very good season last year in which he had 961 yards and 6 TDS. McCariens has renegotiated his contract and took a pay cut which is a good thing. He might not have been what the Jets thought he would be but he is still a good number 3 WR. Brad Smith is a good slash type player who will play QB and WR and Chansi Stuckey so far looks like a steal.
I like this Defense this year. There tough and they got some playmakers. Kerry Rhodes has become one of the best SS in Football and Vilma although he may not be best suited for the 3-4 is a very smart player who will adjust and i think he will be pretty good this year. Drafting David Harris was a great move because he is a tough run stuffing LB who will work well in the Jets system and Thomas, Hobson, and Barton all had good years last year in the 3-4. I worry about the CB position but once Revis gets past the learning curve I think he is going to be very good however it looks like David Barret is going to be starting at CB and that could be a problem. Another corner is going to need to step up and hopefully its Dyson but he is hurt and has lost his starting job to Barret and it doesnt look like he is going to be the other starting corner either.
The Defensive line is up in the air. Ellis is a very solid DE and will do a good job. Robertson had a good year last year but many people think he is to small to play NT in the 3-4 and the Jets are very high on Kenyon Coleman so we will see about him.
The Offensive Line is questionable at best. Mangold and Brick are good players and are on there way to becoming one of the best players at their position. Moore is solid at RG but LG and RT are question marks and the line could be the achillies heel of this team.
All and all I see 10-6 out of this team.

Good post, I have the Jets down as 9-7, just missing the playoffs.

I think we will miss the Playofffs too. Pennington has looked godawful in pre-season. I know its only pre-season, but I truly think that with how bad the LG spot is, and how bad Pennington has been, he will not be the starting QB for very long because he'll either get hurt or just play horribly. I truly think we will finish this season with Kellen Clemens as our starting QB. As good as I think Clemens will be eventually, we will struggle with a young QB. The D and running game wont be strong enough to carrry us,
Then again, Pennington came in and tore the league apart his first year as a starter, so maybe Clemens can imitate him

I wouldnt rule out Chad just yet. He always seems to do a pretty god job when he is healthy. Now the Jets have a tough schedule and he hasnt looked good in preseason but I wouldnt call for his head yet. I'd give him it least 6 games to see were this team stands with him as QB.

I wasnt calling for his head, I was just pointing out that if he plays the way he has so far, Clemens deserves to play since he has looked so good and he is our future

Yeah but its the preseason though and i didnt mean you when i said people are calling for his head. But like i said its the preseason. Chad has some big wins under his belt and he has proven he can take a team to the playoffs. It seems like his back is always up against the wall though and I think most of that is because everytime the Jets lose a game all you hear is well its because of Chad Pennington's arm stegnth and thats not always the case. I also think if Mangini felt that Chad could not get the job done for him he wouldnt send him out there.

The one thing that is worrying me the most is Jacob Bender. He has looked terrible, and if he continues paying the way he has hell end up getting Chad killed. It's not like Chad is exactly the most durable guy in the world

I agree the O-Line is a big problem but we will see. If Brick continues to improve and Mangold continues to improve we have the foundation for a great line but that is something that we are going to need to adress next offseason if Bender doesnt do well.

I was really hoping to try and land Eric Steinbach this off-season. I figured he could play LG and Kendall could have moved to RG. We would have had one of the top 5 O-Lines in the league. And even with kendall leaving, Steinbach could have still played LG and we'd have an outstanding left side

Would have been nice but the Jets decided to spread the wealth this offseason.
Also I like our special teams. I beleive we have the best special teams coach in the league and our special teams this year looks like it is going to be very good.
