Michigan search continues...
Let's just keep using this thread as the official Michigan coaching search thread instead of constantly creating a new one.
So the latest to meet with the Michigan AD? West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez
Rodriguez said a couple weeks ago he wouldn't be leaving WVU. He also has a large buyout clause in his contract, meaning Michigan will have to shell out some big money just to get a chance to sign him to a contract. Is Michigan willing to do that?
All I know is this is taking too long. Anyone seen the recruiting class Ohio St. has lined up? Might be the best in the country. Michigan's? Not so much.

Actually Michigan has a good recruting class so far... If you remember Ohio State signed Tressel in mid January.
I really want Rich Rod, he will get the Big House rockin' with that offense... with Mallett I am expecting an offense similar to the Patriots now with it being pass first, and if Terrelle Pryor follows him to Michigan it could be a Leak/Tebow type switch... only good things would happen if RR is hired.

Michigan's class doesn't compare to Ohio State's. Ohio State has four of the top 50 players in the country. Michigan has none. Ohio State has six in the top 100. Michigan has two. It's definitely not a terrible class, but Ohio State is looking at a top 5 class and that's a problem for Michigan. Not to mention, the longer Michigan goes without a coach the more trouble they'll be in as far as recruiting goes. Pryor isn't verbally committed to West Virginia yet and is leaning toward Ohio St. from the latest info I've read on him so just add that for the Buckeyes if he sticks.
As far as best class in the country... I'd give the edge to Florida or Oklahoma with early verbals.

I disagree, I trust that Rivals would be more reliable with rankings of players but thats your opinion... easily Sam McGuffie is one of the top 50 best player... and hopefully like I said Pryor would come if Rod does cuz he actually liked Michigan early but then focused on places he would be used right i.e. West Virginia, Florida, Oregon.

btw after we get a coach I think more recruits will come because we actually have quite a few that are still interested and we havent had any decommits because of a coaching change which from what I heard was unheardof... RR is a great recruiter and would only help the recruiting class... I am glad that the recruiting dead period is almost here, it will definately help Michigan out.

I look at rivals.com, scout.com and ESPNU and take each into consideration. It's difficult to gauge prospects on a national level so I value all opinions. ESPN doesn't even rank McGuffie in their top 100.
One thing I don't like about Rivals and Scout is that they always seem to rank Notre Dame at the top in their recruiting. However, anyone watch Notre Dame this season and have a tough time believing they had the same caliber of athletes that it would take to get a top recruiting class? I agree with Colin Cowherd on this. I believe that a lot of recruiting outlets and magazines overrank the Irish to make money. Doing that illegitimizes them to me a bit. That's why I prefer ESPN... you don't see that from them.
But past the recruiting part of it, I believe Rodriguez is sticking at West Virginia. He's a West Virginia Man as compared to what Wolverines' fans often use the term Michigan Man. He walked on at West Virginia and earned a scholarship as a defensive back. I know comments mean nothing a lot of time in coaching changes, but Rodriguez is on record as of two weeks ago, stating that he'll be at WVU for the rest of his career. Rodriguez has a $4 million buyout as well. It's going to take a lot of swooning by Michigan and I don't think they'll succeed.

I always wondered that too why Notre Dame always has the best classes but they always sucks or them recruits never turn out... I am really torn on if I think he is going to come or not, the reasons I think he is going to stay is exactly the reasons you think he will... the reasons I think he is going to leave is more money, beat OSU and you'll be a god here, better recruits, ect. Also I have a hard time seeing Bill Martin screw up on another coach, if he does this will turn into a total nightmare and PR disater. With that said I am still hopeful he'll be the next coach at Michigan.

I don't think Michigan will pay much more than WVU. He's making 1.8 mill per season there and he's already a coaching God there as well. In fact, his entire coaching career has almost been totally within that state.

I heard they will pay up to 3 million a season...the thing I dont get tho is when Michigan is spending over 268 million dollars on the Big House renovations, why cant they pay more than 2 or 3 million a year for a coach?... doesnt make sense to me at all.
btw, here are some updates from a sporting news blog, if its true this looks like he's taking the job, but who really knows.
UPDATES:
11:10 a.m. Dec. 15
Rich Rodriguez has canceled today's practice. I have no idea why. If you know, please leave a comment. I'll try to find out.
12:00 p.m. Dec 15
Still don't know why practice was canceled. I guess we'll never know unless Rich tells us why. The WVU men's basketball game is at 3:00 on the radio, and I imagine they'll talk about it before the game. Maybe we'll hear something then. I'll continue to keep you posted.
2:15 p.m. Dec 15
I just got wind of this. It is not officially confirmed yet, but it is being reported that WVU officials are flying to Tallahassee, Florida, right now to meet with Jimbo Fisher to see if he is interested in coaching the Mountaineers. This does not look like a good sign. They must know something if they are flying down there. To me, this sounds like Rich is leaving. Again, it hasn't been confirmed, and as soon as it is, I'll let you know.
