Default So who?

So who's it going to be? I know I'll be spending the next 12 hours with that question at the forefront of my mind. The Bowl Selection Special airs on ESPN at 8 p.m. EST. Who knows if the BCS standings will be released to the public before then.

We know Ohio St. is in. I hate the Buckeyes so I'll be cheering for whoever makes it in against them.

I think LSU, Va. Tech, Oklahoma, USC, Georgia and Kansas can make an argument.

Kansas is the easiest to eliminate. They played one quality opponent and lost to them plus they didn't win their conference, which I think has to be a requirement.

That requirement obviously eliminates Georgia as well. I think Georgia is one of the best teams in the nation right now, though, and could beat LSU at this point. Honestly, I might rank them No. 1 for next season right now.

Mitch Albom from the Detroit Free Press made a great point, though. If Ohio St. can move up to No. 1 and into the BCS without playing then why can't Georgia or Kansas?

I don't know that I can make a genuine argument against that. Georgia is very deserving. They've won six straight games and are playing brilliant football.

USC's schedule turned out to be pretty weak. A loss to Stanford keeps dwelling as well.

It's hard to eliminate Va. Tech, LSU and Oklahoma though. I think all three are worthy.

I was at the OU/Texas Tech game. If OU doesn't lose Sam Bradford, they probably beat Tech. That's something to take into consideration. The loss to Colorado is much worse, though.

Va. Tech lost to LSU and BC and they avenged the loss to BC. I think Va. Tech is a much better team than they were when they played LSU. I picked the Hokies to be in the National Championship game at the start of the season against USC. With the way the season has gone, I think Va. Tech deserves a shot.

But then the argument that LSU beat them surfaces. I think Va. Tech's losses are to more respectable teams than LSU's. LSU lost to Kentucky and Arkansas. By no means are either bad teams, but the Hokies lost to BC and LSU.

However, the lost to LSU thing will keep coming up. But would that game have the same result if it was played now? I don't think so. I think Va. Tech is playing much better football than LSU right now.

Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor are making the dual QB system work. I'd like to see more production out of Brandon Ore, but the running game is still enough of a threat to keep teams honest. The Hokies' defense has lived up to the preseason hype and is ranked fifth in the country. They are vulnerable in the secondary, but teams rarely have the chance to expose them consistently because of their pass rush.

It's not like LSU's defense is worse though. They're ranked third in the nation with just 10 yards separating the Tigers from Va. Tech's average. LSU's weakness is in the running game as Darren McFadden proved.

I think both teams match up very well in a rematch and both have great arguments for the title game. If I was the lone selector in the BCS, I'd give the nod to Va. Tech at this point. Honestly, I think LSU will get the berth. The Tigers simply get more hype through the media. I won't complain about it because they are deserving.

Now the issue of a playoff system. I am definitely in favor of one. However, it's come to my attention it will probably never happen. There are too many factors against it. It's a nice thought, but a long drawn out playoff in Division I football is incredibly unlikely.

I think a four team playoff is possible or what many college experts call an "And 1" addendum. That could work and I wish it was going to be used this year with Ohio St., OU, LSU and Va. Tech involved. I think Ohio St. is the worst of those four teams as well.

Regardless of what we wish for, the BCS will take place as scheduled now.

Here's how I would select the games... Not how the BCS will do so...

BCS Championship
LSU vs. Va. Tech

Rose Bowl
Ohio St. vs. USC

Sugar Bowl
Georgia vs. Hawaii

Fiesta Bowl
Oklahoma vs. Arizona St.

Orange Bowl
West Virginia vs. Missouri
(Yes, Missouri over Kansas. They lost to Oklahoma twice and beat Kansas late in the season which is much different than early in the season.)

I've got to totally agree with your arguments. Although I live closest to Ohio State, I have watched them several games, and they just don't seem like national championship material. I watched VA Tech play Virginia and they've impressed me more than OSU has. LSU does probably get the berth over VA Tech based on the win earlier this season. If LSU can stay out of triple overtime, I think they'll beat OSU handily.

I dont think you can leave Ohio State out of the championship game. As much as I hate them they are #3 and should move up becuase I dont think Va Tech's win is enough for them to move all the way up to #2 and the same with LSU.

I think it should be OSU vs. Oklahoma IMO

I just don't see Oklahoma going from 9 up to #2 even with 2 teams in front of them losing.

you could be right... it's just my opinion of who I think should be playing in the NC game.

Why is there a lot of hate towards Ohio State? They have one of the best defenses in the country and a very explosive offense. They were the second to last team to give up more than 17 points to an opponent (the only reason I know that is because UConn was the last on that same day). You may say that they played a soft schedule and sure they did, but it wasn't like they weren't winning how they should have been. Besides the Michigan State game, all their other wins weren't exactly close. Even the Michigan State game wouldn't even have been close if Ohio State didn't make a couple costly mistakes. They consistently dominated their opponents and that doesn't make them worthy of a BSC Championship game. Saying Ohio State doesn't deserve to be in the championship, in my opinion, would be just of the basis that you might not like them or something. Their play throughout the year shows that they are more than deserving of playing in the national title game. Every team has it's bad days, but there was only one for the Buckeyes while other teams had more than that.

With that being said, I believe that they should be playing Oklahoma. Oklahoma's wins to me just seem more impressive than LSU's. If you look at LSU schedule, it may seem like they have played more ranked teams, but if you look at the ranks now, compared to when they played, half of those teams weren't really as good as their rank showed. Oklahoma's win this past weekend just puts the icing on the cake for me. I really thought Missouri was looking really good against Kansas and then Oklahoma just took care of business against them. All the ranked teams they played have consistently been ranked.

In my mind, it should be Ohio State vs. Oklahoma for the title game.

I think the 2 best teams RIGHT NOW are Georgia and USC. People keep comparing Georgia to the 01 Nebraska team but Georgia is going in with a 6 game win streak. Nebraska lost to Colorado in their last game before the BCS Title Game. I would take Georgia by 10 if they played LSU now and I'd take them by two touchdowns if they played Ohio State.

As far as LSU vs. Ohio State goes. It's a nice little game but i don't think the winner is the best team in college football right now. LSU did lose to a pair of teams that I believe aren't ranked right now. Arkansas and Kentucky. Ohio State's biggest win is against Wisconsin and Michigan. Both of those teams really don't compare to a team like Florida whom Georiga and LSU beat.

If I were to vote for a top 10 it'd look like this

1. Georgia
2. USC
3. LSU
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State
6. Virginia Tech
7. Hawaii
8. West Virginia
9. Missouri
10. Kansas

People keep saying that teams are playing better than other teams right now. To get to the title game you need to be playing at that level for the whole 11 or 12 games that you play. Not just for the last 5 or 6. That's why the teams that are in the title game are there. They perform week in and week out and don't just stop after their easy games.

What team performed up to standards week in and week out this season? The answer to that is one... Hawaii.

No one else...
