Evaluation: Mackey is a fast player with the ability to run plays down. He has good diagnose skills verse the run and doesn?t waste a lot of steps. He steps up and does a nice job of filling the hole. He will pursue at full speed and shows good hustle in running people down. He is a good wrap tackler who balances up nicely and drives through contact. He has decent ability to run with inside receivers in man-to-man coverage. He tends to get his eyes high and in the backfield allowing blockers into his frame. He does not us his hands well enough to escape blocks and can get bounced around at the point of attack. He often will go in pads first and get engulfed by bigger framed blockers. He tends to bite on play action and is slow to react to the pass. He has decent make speed and has good awareness and ball skills. Overall Mackey is a developing player with room to improve. He does a nice job of showing up and playing the run. He can improve his agility to help out in pass responsibility. He must increase his bulk and strength to hold up at the point of attack. He runs well and could be a candidate to contribute on special teams.
