Vernon Davis. Issac Bruce is getting older and Davis is one of the best prospects at his postition EVER. Jimmy Williams has cold stock right now and it's hard to find a natural position. With the chance of landing a solid target next to Holt and Bruce to go along with Steven Jackson and the offensive mind in Scott Lineham, I don't see how you past.

SHATTASTIC DEFENSE = JIMMY WILLIAMS CB/S
Now it doesn't really matter at this point whether or not he should be taken this high. It's real simple, St. Louis had one of thee worst secondaries I have ever seen last year. Bottom third in the league in pass percentage given up 62%, total passing ypg 216, and total int's 13. That's pathetic. Even if Jimmy doesn't work out at CB, which is where he should start, he should become quite a good safety. And don't forget Archuleta is probably history.

Kevin Curtis is a stud though, and even Ol' McDonald stepped up this year..my opinion is they'll be fine in the passing game, the defense needs work.
Quite frankily I think St. Louis is one of those teams that could definitely trade down. They need to get a 1-2 rd. caliber S, CB, and G or C all this offseason in order to compete.
***EDIT*** The Sports Illustrated Mock has St. Louis taking Vernon Davis, so that just gives me more fuel for projecting Williams there. SI is horrible.

vernon Davis............
Holt and Bruce both had injury problems last year......McDonald and Kevin Curtis are good players, but neither have the potential that Davis could have in the pass game
st. louis struggled to open holes for jackson last year.....davis will also help the run game as well as the pass...

Kevin Curtis caught 60 passes while learning the technique from 3 different starting qb's last year....he could easily catch 80 next year as a starter from Bulger.
The Rams were 4th in the entire nfl in passing last year, while using 3 qb's..one of which is 35 and the other a rookie, with Bruce only recieving 36 receptions. It appears to me that they have already proven they can have a successful passing game without Bruce, and Holt is only 29 (might I add he is one of the top 10 recievers easily).
St. Louis struggled to open holes because neither of their starting guards are all that great.....they allow the bull rush defense to get to them.
I don't disagree with you that they don't need either a recieving te or wr in this draft....maybe just wait until the 2nd or 3rd round to get it.
Team needs CB, S, G, WR depth or TE depth.
I realize I'm posting alot in this thread, and I'm sorry for that. I just feel so strongly about them needing secondary help. They could easily be a playoff contender again if they shored that up.

The potential of Vernon Davis out weights that of Jimmy Williams. The Rams can easily pick a Kelly Jennings or Richard Marshall in round 2 and work him in as their starter at CB. Even Jonathan Joseph has an outside chance of being on the board in round 2. Those guys have the potential of being solid CB's in the NFL that can get it done.
Davis is one of the best TE prospects ever. There is no TE in the 2nd round that comes close to Davis' athletic abiltiy and as a prospect let alone. Picking Davis in round 1 and picking a DB in round 2 would prove to be great value for the Rams in both rounds.
Jimmy Williams isn't a pure CB or S and it's hard to project where he'll end up playing. I myself think he's overrated and I have him going #15 to Atlanta. Don't get me wrong he's got potential to be great but he's not up there as a prospect like DeAngelo Hall was. Why people compare them kind of baffles me.
As much as I think Davis may be overrated because of his numbers in the weight room there is no denying the Rams search for a TE in the past. Even if Kevin Curtis does come in and replace Issac Bruce in the future the Rams will still need a 3rd target to take attention off of Holt and Jackson. Davis is just too good in my opinion to past up and he fills a need.

with Vernon Davis and Mario Williams.. and it's true which is why it's so annoying when people have these guys falling into the 20's.

I'm just saying. I can concur with Mario Williams. But I can think of one TE off the top of my head that was a more promising prospect than Davis, his name is Kellen Winslow II.
