I'm going with DeAngelo Williams. A good Running game is the way to develop a young QB especially like Smith. It's a solid back with DB's. They should be able to add a quality player in round 2 or 3 and another one in 4 or 5.

With Deang still there they NEED him more than a safety...Williams will be a great addtion to help Alex Smith and they couldn't resist but take him here, even if they want Huff that badly
Alex Smith is developing and they want to help it as fast as they can

Most people thinks DeAngelo Williams but a run game to help Alex Smith doesnt really do anything if their defense gives up 30 pts a game like last year, forcing Smith to pass on every play....THey will select Williams only if they plan on releasing Barlow which as of now they have no intention of doing....The Niners are also really high on Gore so....
Michael Huff is the pick

Can Gore stay healthy though? He's been injury proned for his entire career. His sophmore or frosh year at Miami he tore his ACL and the rest his college career he really struggled to stay healthy. Also the potential on DeAngelo Williams heavily outweights that of Frank Gore. I do expect them to release Kevan Barlow and their a couple quality free agent safetys like Adam Archleta and Chris Hope who they can sign.

Potential doesnt matter when you are playing from behind...RB's get injured, if they dont then they arent playing hard enough....Gore plays hard and that is why the Niners like him...the most important thing for him is that his knees held up this year....he had surgery on both his should but for the most part he played through the pain during the last couple of weeks and put up really nice numbers...thats more than I can say for Mewelde Moore who injures a finger and is in and out and Michael Bennett who runs for 10 yards, goes out of bounds and has an injury

So your saying DeAngelo Williams isn’t as tough as Gore. Your take a tough guy who get’s injured over a consistent player who has two solid knees instead of restructured ones? Gore is probably nothing more than a situational player in the NFL which is why he was a 3rd round pick not a 1st or 2nd. Now I'm not saying Gore isn't tough and I'm not saying he isn't going to be good. I'm not ripping on the 49ers like you are the trying to do the Vikings. even though I'll be the first to admit the Vikings need a RB. I'm saying I don't see Kevan Barlow as a 49ers next year and the chance to land someone the caliber of DeAngelo Williams is huge. Last season there was a rumor that San Fran actually wanted Williams if he had entered and may of traded down to draft him in the mid first round. Mainly I'm saying Frank Gore cannot stay healthy. Whether it's he's unlucky or he’s just not durable enough I don't see a future 1500 yard back in him where as Williams I do and his versatility is very overlooked this year because of Bush.
