Default 2006 Mock Draft 1-20

2006 NFL Mock Draft 1-20

I did this draft like I was from the future, predicting how I think teams will finish with the Patriots winning another Super Bowl over the Vikings.

1. Browns- QB Matt Leinart, USC- Trent Dilfer was terrible and Leinart is the best QB in the Draft by a long shot. If Leinart had come out last year the Browns likely would have ended up with Alex Smith and the 49ers with Leinart. Leinart is the best lefty QB since Michael Vick in 2001 and should be able to turn this franchise around.

2. 49ers- LB Chad Greenway, Iowa- They lost Julian Peterson and he leaves a void that needs to be filled. Alex Smith looked solid last year and this franchise is going places if they can put more young studs around him.

3. Broncos(from WAS)- WR Derek Hagan, Arizona State- Rod Smith is a year or two away from retirement and Ashley Lelie hasn’t developed into his full potential yet. Hagan is a speedster from ASU and he showed last year that he can put up decent numbers without having a good QB throw to him.

4. Cardinals- QB Chris Leak, Florida- Kurt Warner proved last year that he is past his prime and Josh McCown didn’t do so hot either. Leak had a tremendous year, leading Florida to the runner-up to USC in the Rose Bowl. Denny Green finds himself a stud here.

5. Bears- WR Santonio Holmes, Ohio State- Muhsin Muhammad was a great addition but Mark Bradley did nothing along side him last year. Holmes had a great season for the Buckeyes and forgoed his Senior season and he will give Rex Grossman another big target to throw to.

6. Chiefs- CB Jimmy Williams, Virginia Tech- Outside of Patrick Surtain, they have nobody at CB. Williams dominated at V-Tech and was a true shut-down corner at the collegiate level.

7. Bills- DT Rodrique Wright, Texas- After losing Pat Williams last year, and now Sam Adams, the Bills have nobody at DT. Wright declared last year but then withdrew, and it really helped his stock as he put together a tremendous season with Texas who fell just short of the National Champioship.

8. Raiders- RB DeAngelo Williams, Memphis- Lamont Jordan turned out to be a bust, so they need to bring in a top notch RB. Williams had a terrific season and is widely considered the best RB in the draft.

9. Dolphins- QB Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green- Jacobs put together great numbers with not much around him and the Dolphins experiment with A.J. Feeley didn’t work. Adding Jacobs, along with last years Rookie Of The Year in Ronnie Brown give the Dolphins a solid young nucleus on Offense.

10. Lions- LB Ahmad Brooks, Virginia- The offense was tremendous last year, but the defense kept them from being a successful team. Brooks will boast an average LB corps and maybe propel this team into the playoff hunt.

11. Titans- OT D’Brickshaw Ferguson, Virginia- Tennessee is seeing it’s franchise slip away, McNair got hurt yet again last year and that can partly be credited to the Offensive Line, Ferguson will solidify a very weak Offensive Line.

12. Texans- S Jason Allen, Tennessee- A playmaker in the secondary is what the Texans lacked last year. Carr busted out of the closet with a breakout year, but the defense kept the Texans from going anywhere.

13. Broncos- CB Will Blackmon, Boston College- The CB’s aren’t spectacular once you look past Champ Bailey. Blackmon is a playmaker at CB who should come in and start right away.

14. Bengals- DT Gabe Watson, Michigan- They failed to get a game-breaking DT in last year’s draft, so they take a chance on one with Watson here.

15. Cowboys- WR Martin Nance, Miami(OH)- Terry Glenn retired and Keyshawn only has a year or two left in him. Nance should form a great tandem with Quincy Morgan.

16. Giants- DE Mathias Kiwanuka- Michael Strahan called it quits and they have no one to replace him. Kiwanuka is the best DE in the draft and the Giants are fortunate to see him drop to 16.

17. Buccaneers- QB Reggie McNeal, Texas A&M- Griese was decent last year but nothing special. The Bucs can’t pass on someone like McNeal.

18. Saints- DT Haloti Ngata, Oregon- Johnathan Sullivan proved what he could do last year, but outside of him they have nothing. Ngata should come in and make an impact right away.

19. Packers- CB Devin Hester, Miami (FL)- Hester is a tremendous athlete, and he should boast a weak Green Bay secondary. With Aaron Rodgers ready to step in for the departed Brett Favre, this season is a boom or bust for them.

20. Colts- RB Laurence Maloney, Minnesota- Maloney was the reason Marion Barber came out last year. Maloney put up Heismann caliber numbers last year and he is the perfect replacement for the Edge.

Ok, I like the core here abit, but i dont think Cincinatti will finish outside of the playoffs and I think the same for the Colts.
I guess I am seeing here that you have the Jets, Jags, Ravens, Chargers, Patriots and Steelers in the playoffs next year for the AFC. and for the NFC you have the Eagles, Falcons, Panthers, Rams, Seahawks, and the Vikings in the playoffs which is a solid guess.
The Pack are falling right now I think they drop into the top 10.

I like the order but thats about it. I don't see a top 10 reciever next year. Santonio Holmes and Derek Hagans aren't top 10 picks. mid to late 1st rnd picks. Actually the Miami OH reciever I think will be the 1st reciever taken. Leak is high. He is under size to play QB in the NFL. So pending his seaon this year. Not to mention saying he will leave is premature. Hard to say will he will go. Ferguson is going in the Top 3. Mathias Kiwanuka is also a top 10 pick as well. I don't see AJ Hawk any where on here. Are you kidding me. Reggie McNeal is a little high as well. Again depending on the season and combine hard to say.

Laurence Maloney will be a junior next year it's hard to say weather or not he will come out.

Matt Leinart is not a good pick for Cleveland because Charlie Frye is their franchise QB as of now. A.J. Hawk would be the first LB taken, then Ahmad Brooks, then Abdul Hodge, then D'Qwell Jackson, then Chad Greenway. Darnell Bing would be the first S taken. Jesse Mahelona from Tennessee had better numbers by a longshot over Rod Wright at DT. Kiwanuka and Mario Williams are top 15 picks, they are the best DE's in the nation and are physical specimen. Jon Scott for Texas is a better OT then Ferguson. LenDale White and Laurence Maroney are even talent wise as of now. There wont be any WR's taken in the top 10. Dwayne Jarrett will be a top 3 pick in 2 years, to bad he isnt eligible next year.

Don't overlook the nations best wideout this year. Calvin Johnson. Has been a beast in the spring and will do his thing this year. I agree with everything you said except that Fyre is a project in the making. He isn't the Browns Franchise QB now. So if he looks like crap during preseason and during the regulars season(assuming he gets a couple of starts) Then I could see them taken a pick on Leinart and that Ferguson isn't the best Tackle in the nation. He is a top 3 pick next year. Barring any injuries.

Why would Cleveland draft Frye with a second rounder and waste it if he isnt going to be their franchise QB. I agree that we dont know how he will pan out but they drafted him with the intentions of him being their future.

I want to make a bet with you. Jonathan Scott will be drafted before D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

Ferguson 6'5'' 295
Scott 6'7'' 310
Scott was a beast last year and he will be again, I'm pretty sure he didnt allow a sack. Everyone will end up having Scott going first on mocks on this site, just watch. (They'll jump on my bandwagon.)

Forgot to mention why the Offensive Line of the Titans was weak was amassed by injuries. But even so, Im Cool with D'Brickshaw Ferguson. Ironically, you say they are slipping away and they are picking later.

D'Brickshaw Ferguson will be the 1st tackle off the board. Watch and see. He would of been a top 3 pick this year. Unless he really does bad this season he will go in the Top 3 and most likely be the top tackle taken.

Is Steve Smith, WR USC eligible for the draft? I think he's a junior. If he came out, he might go in the top 20.

Another OT that has gone completely under the radar is Jeremy Trueblood of BC. With BC in the ACC this year, don't be surprised if he becomes recognized as a top prospect. I think he is like 6-7 and 325. I could be mistaken, but he sure is a big guy. Plus, BC lineman have a history of coming into the NFL and being successful. Look at Dan Koppen, Damian Woody, Pete Kendall, and I think Tom Nalen went to BC too.

I'm not a Colts fan by any measure, but how can you have them missing the playoffs? The teams who will make the playoffs should be the Pats, Steelers, Ravens, Chargers, Jags, and Colts of the AFC and Eagles, Vikings, Panthers, Falcons, Cardinals, and Cowboys of the NFC. Denny Green will shock everyone by guiding the Cards to the crown of the NFL's worst division.
