Default Post Senior Bowl Mock (3 rounder)

I got over zealous and bored and did 3 rounds... the first is def better than the second two, so dont freak out if something is way off, just tell me nicely lol. Short explanations for round 1.

1. Miami Dolphins – Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
BPA that fills need

2. St. Louis Rams – Chris Long, DE, Virginia
They need a better rush off the edge, and need to improve the D

3. Oakland Raiders – Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
They have a handful of decent backs, but no studs like Run DMC

4. Kansas City Chiefs – Jake Long, OT, Michigan
Kind of a no brainer, killed by the loss of roaf and shields.

5. Atlanta Falcons – Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
Best QB available on a team that needs a leader, and QB

6. New York Jets – Sedrick Ellis, DT/E, USC
Will play DE in the 3-4 and be a force to be reckoned with.

7. New England Patriots – Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
Asante Samuel is probably gone and their DB’s aren’t young.

8. Baltimore Ravens – Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
See Atlanta

9. Cincinnati Bengals – Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State
Best defensive player available, could start opposite Justin Smith and help the rush.

10. New Orleans Saints – Kenny Phillips, SS, Miami
Will help the pass AND run defense out…(they aren’t good at either)

11. Buffalo Bills – Keith Rivers, M/OLB, USC
Losing London Fletcher hurt, completes the lb core

12. Denver Broncos – Dan Conner, M/OLB, Penn State
Will play MLB so DJ Williams can go back outside where he’s better.

13. Carolina Panthers – Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
Their DT’s are all old and/or underachievers. Balmer is shooting up charts.

14. Chicago Bears – Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
Time for a change in Chicago.

15. Detroit Lions – Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State
They need a left and right tackle, he’ll start at one of them.

16. Arizona Cardinals – Derrick Harvey, DE/OLB, Florida
Hybrid player that fits scheme nicely and will move around a lot.

17. Minnesota Vikings – Desean Jackson, WR, California
A true number one target for Travares Jackson

18. Houston Texans – Sam Baker, OT, USC
LT for Texans… all I need to say.

19. Philadelphia Eagles – Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Could use an everydown workhorse DE, good value.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Chris Williams, OT, Vandy
Solidified the right side through the draft, now they need to do it to the left.

21. Washington Redskins – Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
Number 1 WR potential and compliment to the speedsters Moss and Randle El

22. Seattle Seahawks – Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
? on Shaun’s future

23. Dallas Cowboys – Aquib Talib, CB, Kansas
Upgrade over Anthony Henry… bit of a luxury pick.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers – Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
Right tackle upgrade.

25. Tennessee Titans – Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
WR is the weakest position on the team.

26. San Diego Chargers – Reggie Smith, S, Oklahoma
In need of a safety

27. Jacksonville Jaguars – Adarius Bowman, WR, Oklahoma State
Reggie Williams has emerged but Ernest Wilford is probably more a number 3

28. Green Bay Packers – Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Nickelback who’ll take over when woodson or harris retires.

29. Dallas Cowboys – Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
Assuming JJ leaves in FA… good compliment to barber.

30. San Francisco 49ers – Pat Sims, NT, Auburn
Need a NT for their 3-4 scheme.

31. New York Giants – Ali Highsmith, OLB, LSU
Mitchell and Kiwanuka just aren’t good enough to get the job done.

32. New England Patriots – No Pick

Round 2

33. Miami – Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State

34. St. Louis – Tavares Gooden, LB, Miami

35. Kansas City – Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas

36. Atlanta – Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois

37. New York Jets – Terrell Thomas, CB, USC

38. Oakland – Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College

39. Baltimore – Shawn Crable, OLB, Michigan

40. San Fransisco – Early Doucett, WR, LSU

41. New Orleans – Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland

42. Buffalo – James Hardy, WR, Indiana

43. Denver – Thomas DeCoud, S, California

44. Carolina – Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon

45. Chicago - Frank Okam, DT, Texas

46. Detroit – Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona

unless he is the highest player on their board at the time the browns probably wont go corner. Leigh Bodden had a down year and still played pretty well. Eric Wright came into his own the second half of the year. Daven Holly is a respectable nickle and Brandon McDonald showed big time ability shutting down Andre Johnson.

Texans are no longer desperate for a LT. They gave up only 22 sacks this season -- sixth in the league. The offensive problems have finally been solved. Also, turns out that David Carr was a big part of the problem.

I don't like the Eagles taking a DE in the first round. I could see one later in the draft, but Trent Cole was a Pro Bowler, Jevon Kearse spent most of the season injured, but was effective when healthy, and Juqua Thomas was fantastic against the run filling in for Kearse.

Your draft order is off. It's not correct on the website right now so don't go off of that. The Cowboys should be picking at 22 then it goes...
23 Steelers
24 Titans
25 Seahawks
26 Jaguars
27 Chargers
28 Cowboys
29 49ers (Ind)
30 Packers

I think both McKelvin and Talib will be picked in the top 20.

Mendenhall is more of a first round pick than Felix Jones.

I don't view Pat Sims as a NT. He's more of a DE in the 3-4, which is still something the Niners need.

Tavares Gooden has the size of a 1st day pick, but I don't think he has the ability. Also, this is a really deep class for middle linebackers. I think he's more a fourth or fifth rounder, but could slip into the third. Unless, he has an incredible combine.

Marcus Harrison hurt his stock at the Senior Bowl. He probably dropped out of the first day completely.

Doucet worked his way back into the first round with his Senior Bowl performance.

Thomas DeCoud didn't put himself in the second round either. He's third round at best right now.

Dennis Dixon has been passed up by Chad Henne and Joe Flacco for sure and possibly John David Booty.

I'm not a fan of Okam's. I think he's a third round pick right now.

Cason is a first round pick. He's the third fourth CB in this draft.

Oniel Cousins killed his stock at the Senior Bowl. He's a late 3rd round pick at best right now.

Cody Wallace did the same. I see him going 3 rounds later.

62 is low for Groves. That and I can't see him going anywhere but to a 3-4 defense. Also, DE isn't much of a need for the Pack.

Trevor Laws is going to go high in the second round in my opinion. He's soaring up draft boards.

Chad Henne is a second round pick as well. Joe Flacco isn't in your three rounds and he should be somewhere. I've read some scouts are considering him the second best QB in the draft now.

Tony Hills is an injury concern and wasn't that effective when he was healthy. Mid-second day pick.

DeJuan Tribble has played his way out of the first day.

I'm a big Jamaal Charles fan. I think he's the 5th RB in this class, although it's obviously debatable.

I don't think Dre Moore is a NT prospect either. Again, more of a 5-tech in the 3-4. Or a 3-tech in a 4-3.

If a FB is going in the first day, then it's going to be Owen Schmitt. He's a much more versatile player.

I love the Cowboys picks except for the C in the second round. I would like to see Steve Slaton there. You must be on the same page as me because you have upgraded the Cowboys overall team speed with your selections.

Why Steve Slaton when he has them taking Felix Jones in the first round? That makes no sense.

There's a few guys available at the pick for Dallas in this mock that would be better picks. Anthony Collins would be good. Trevor Laws would be fantastic.

I don't know much about Adarius Bowman, but I just looked him up, and he sounds a lot like Reggie Williams, if not Matt Jones. Matt Jones has showed signs, he just needs to have those great hands that he was supposed to have. If the Jaguars take a WR, it will be a speed guy, and the first weakness I read on Adarius Bowman is that he doesn't have great timed speed.

The Boys run a two back system so Jones and Barber will be getting the carries. Slaton can return punts and kickoffs. Caldwell will be the slot WR.

And how many punts and kickoffs has Slaton returned in his college career? Two. He didn't do it in high school either. He's not a kick returner in other words.

My thinking with Felix Jones to the boys is he is going to be the second RB change of pace guy. He was the same thing for mcfadden at arkansas, and averaged 9 yards a carry, he'll be the speed guy while barber is the power. I like jonathan stewart better, but I think Jones is a better fit as Stewart is a big feature back, still with decent speed, but not as fast as jones. They could look at mendenhall, I just think Jones fits the best for what they would want a RB for. I picked a center for them because I know Gurode played gaurd before center, and I think he's better off there. He's big enough for gaurd, and his shotgun snap SUCKS. I could see them waiting till the later rounds for one, but I figured they had two first round picks to get other positions so why wait? take the best one on your board... OLine is soo important, especially when you play the DL of the giants twice a year.

How many catches did Crayton have. The same goes for Randell El, Hines Ward and the list goes on. Look at the RB out of Florida State from the Jets who did not return kicks in college, Maurice Jones Drew and others. In college where you are the man the coaching staff can't afford to risk loosing their starting RB, QB or WR to injury so they try to rest them and play someone else on special teams. But in the pros Slaton will start off as a part time player who will make his name on special teams ala Hester, Cobbs.

As a coach I have the ability to see what a player has the capacity to do. Look at Belicheat and Parcells who take WR's and put them into the secondary or turn college DE's into LB's.
