Default KINSM'S First 2007 (1 RD) Mock Draft W/ Analysis

1. Oakland Raiders - Russell, Jamarcus, QB LSU

If former all-pro wide receiver Randy Moss is traded this could open the door for Calvin Johnson. Oakland could still make a move for a signal caller; I wouldn’t be surprised If they got their hands on David Carr now that Houston has traded for Matt Schaub.

2. Detroit Lions -Thomas, Joe, OT Wisconsin

A lot of people have Brady Quinn going to Detroit, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. However, I think Detroit has set their eyes on Drew Stanton (possibly trading down in the second round to get him) being their future quarterback. I think Kitna will once again be a good groomer, who knows; maybe Stanton could become another Palmer. I don’t think they will pass on a franchise left tackle at this spot though.

3. Cleveland Browns - Peterson, Adrian, RB Oklahoma

Minnesota could offer an extra pick to Cleveland to swap and secure that they get Calvin Johnson, but I think the Browns really want Peterson, and can't risk falling to 7, unless they are blown away by Minnesota. I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t need Peterson now that they have Jamal Lewis, but I believe that Jamal Lewis will be a stop gap player like Dominic Rhodes was last year. And Jamal will hope that he does well enough to warrant a multi-year deal elsewhere in ’08.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Johnson, Calvin, WR Georgia Tech

It appears that Jeff Garcia will be the starting quarterback this coming year in Tampa, The Bucs won’t be able to pass on the best wide out in this year’s draft.

5. Arizona Cardinals - Adams, Gaines, DE Clemson

The Cardinals should do everything in their power to get Joe Thomas, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. So they take the next best thing, Adams is a pure edge rusher and opposing offensive coordinators would have a tough time double-teaming Berry and Adams this year.

6. Washington Redskins - Branch, Alan, DT Michigan

The Redskins have addressed their needs at middle linebacker and corner with veteran free agents. Alan Branch can be a space eater in the middle of their front four, he is also a more than adequate pass rusher.

7. Minnesota Vikings - Quinn, Brady, QB Notre Dame

The Vikings are missing the face of their franchise right now and Quinn certainly would be a huge upgrade over Tavaris Jackson, and could be really scary under the tutelage of Childress. I can't see Minnesota passing on Quinn if he’s still on the board. But as previously stated I wouldn’t be surprised if they worked out a deal with Cleveland or Detroit for that matter to move up and take Calvin Johnson.

8. Atlanta Falcons f/ Houston - Landry, Laron, S LSU

Landry would fill a very large void in the middle of Atlanta’s backfield. If Atlanta feels that Jimmy Williams would better serve them at the FS position then I wouldn’t be surprised to see Leon Hall as Atlanta’s selection here.

9. Miami Dolphins - Hall, Leon, CB Michigan

Miami like everyone else has several needs; therefore I believe they fill the most glaring need – their secondary. Leon Hall is the best corner in this year’s draft.

10. Houston Texans f/ Atlanta -Brown, Levi, OT Penn St.

David Carr (or Matt Schaub now) has been sacked more times than Pamela Anderson, and it’s got to hurt. The Texans will never be able to climb up in the standings if they don’t continue to build their o-line. Levi has been overshadowed by the play of Joe Thomas, but in his own right he should be considered a franchise left tackle.

11. San Francisco 49ers - Anderson, Jamaal, DE Arkansas

Personally I think the 49ers suck in nearly every aspect of the game, but with the acquisitions of a TE and QB among others over the last few years it’s time for them to spend this pick on the defensive side of the ball. Anderson is similar to last year’s Mario Williams…a pass rusher whose stock has skyrocketed as the draft nears closer.

12. Buffalo Bills - Lynch, Marshawn, RB California

With the trade of Willis McGahee the Bills really have no other options here except to take the second best running back; Marshawn Lynch. If they believe that Irons or Bush could be their starters (and are in agreement that they can get one of them with their second round pick) then they could go with a CB to replace Clements.

13. St. Louis Rams -Okoye, Amobi, DT Louisville

The Rams would like to find someone in this year’s draft that can stop the run. They’ve added defensive end James Hall via trade meaning they can gamble on the youngster Okoye, he is only 19 and still won’t be in the prime of his career until after his first contract expires, makes a lot of sense.

14. Carolina Panthers - Olsen, Greg, TE Miami

This pick is a little tricky for me, the Panthers are in need of a safety and they could go with Reggie Nelson. But I think they’ll go with this year’s Vernon Davis. Olsen can open up the middle of the field which will be a great benefit to Carolina’s receivers as well as Jake Delhomme.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers - Carriker, Adam, DE Nebraska

I believe that overtime Mike Tomlin will look to shift from a pure 3-4 to a cover 2 4-3 scheme. I believe Pittsburgh will grab the versatile Carriker, who can play in either the 3-4 or the 4-3 scheme, and can really get after the passer, which, surprisingly, is what the Steelers lacked last year.

16. Green Bay Packers - Ginn, Ted, WR Ohio State

With Favre or Rodgers, which ever the case, they are in desperate need for some youth in their receiving corps. Ted Ginn is very rough around the edges but has more upside than any other receiver still on the board. With his speed he would be an immediate threat on special teams and in my eyes could line up as Green Bay’s third receiver with immediate success similar to Chris Henry in Cincinnati. Could be an eventual replacement for Driver.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars - Nelson, Reggie, S Florida

While the Jaguars cornerback play is solid, they could use a playmaking safety that can create turnovers; Reggie Nelson is a prime candidate.

18. Cincinnati Bengals - Willis, Patrick, ILB Ole Miss

The Bengals are in desperate need of two things: 1. a role model for the rest of the players to look up to, and 2. a linebacker to replace Brian Simmons. Even if Ahmad Brooks starts Patrick Willis will add stupendous depth to a linebacking corps that has been devastated as of late; Simmons gone via free agency, Thurman arrested and suspended, and Pollack paralyzed. To all accounts Willis is a true leader on the field and in the locker room.

19. Tennessee Titans - Jarrett, Dwayne, WR USC

I think this year might be very saddening for Titans fans. The loss of Drew Bennett leaves a large void and Vince Young has to have a weapon or two or three for that matter, for the Titans to have any success. USC has created some very good skill players over the years; Jarrett should become a very good possession reciever for Young. With Fisher and Chow in Tennessee, this is good as a lock if Jarrett is there.

20. New York Giants - Timmons, Lawrence, OLB Florida St.

The Giants must get younger and there is no better spot to start than their linebacking corps.

21. Denver Broncos - Moss, Jarvis, DE Florida

They have acquired Travis Henry, Dan Wilkinson, Dre’ Bly, and Daniel Graham during the off-season. An athletic pass rusher off the edge is still a glaring need that Moss would fill quite nicely.

22. Dallas Cowboys - Ross, Aaron, CB Texas

Starting Cornerback Anthony Henry should be moved inside to safety, this will allow safety Roy Williams to advance up in the box where he can dominate; leaving a vacancy to be filled at the corner position.

23. Kansas City Chiefs - Meachem, Robert, WR Tennessee

If Huard is the starter in KC, he is going to need more help besides Gonzalez and Larry Johnson. Meachem will allow Gonzalez to stretch the middle of the field more, and Meachem could become a replacement for Kennison.

24. New England Patriots - Posluszny, Paul, OLB Penn St.

The Patriots love their linebackers, and with the acquisition of Adalius Thomas now have what might be the best linebacking corps in the business. But many believe that Bruschi and Vrabel for that matter could be used as super subs, in that case Posluszny would be the new starting OLB.

25. New York Jets - Revis, Darrelle, CB Pittsburgh

Simply put the Jets are in need of a corner.

26. Philadelphia Eagles - Bowe, Dwayne, WR LSU

Reggie Brown is an adequate #1 wide out, and Kevin Curtis maybe an adequate #2, but Donovan McNabb would be very greateful if they acquired another legit receiving threat.

27. New Orleans Saints - Houston, Chris, CB Arkansas

Houston has great speed, and would be considered a great infusion of young talent for a defense that played pretty well last year. The Saints should once again be a playoff contender.

28. New England Patriots f/ Seattle - Griffin, Michael, S Texas

The only glaring need that The Patriots have is Safety. Rodney Harrison is like 40 and Artrell Hawkins sucked for the Bengals so he shouldn’t be starting for the Patriots, Griffin will fit nicely here.

29. Baltimore Ravens - Blalock, Justin, OG Texas

The Ravens really don’t need much…..an OG would be nice….Chris Chester and Blalock could be the starting guards this year for the Ravens.

30. San Diego Chargers – Rice, Sidney, WR South Carolina

To be honest, I don’t know who the hell to put here, with the loss of Kiel a safety should be considered here but; I think WR is a desperate need, what if Gates went down with an injury….that would take away half of their receiving corps. Rice is young but is a super talent and should fit nicely in San Diego.

31. Chicago Bears - Staley, Joe, OT Central Michigan

Many people think they’ll take a LB here since Lance Briggs’ ordeal. But I still think they take an offensive lineman to keep a youth movement in the trenches. Staley might be able to take over one of the Guard positions his rookie season. Staley's athleticism and a 4.79 40 time on his pro day takes him from the second round into the late first.

32. Indianapolis Colts - Beason, Jon, OLB Miami (FL)

Cato June must be replaced, and Beason will fit that need nicely.

I'm not on the Quinn to Minnesota bandwagon. Actually, I'm standing there in the background with Saint with torch in hand in order to burn that bandwagon to the ground. I find it very improbable. Not completely improbable, but very improbable.

I don't like seeing Chris Houston so low on the board and I'm not being obsessed with his combine numbers. Remember, this was my guy before the combine. He's the most impressive CB you will find in this draft on film. If he were a couple of inches taller then he would be graded ahead of Hall.

Joe Staley doesn't fit the Bears blocking scheme at all. They run a power blocking scheme and he's not a power blocker.

I hate seeing how many first round mocks that Charles Johnson is falling out of. He really is a first round worthy prospect.

dude get revis away from the jets, him and daymeion hughes, although good prospects, are too slow to play in a defensive scheme other than the cover 2 and be any good. Maybe he'd hold his own, but revis won't be good on the jets. Chris Houston to them would give me a woody id b so happy.

As for tennesse.... ok they def take a wr no question, and i wont even argue with jarett, but the thing that kills me is you saying his combo of size and SPEED. lol, you mean his 4.7 speed? lol might want to change that, he's possesion all the way. I think they are going to go meachem or bowe over him, but jarrett is def possible, just take that thing about the speed out lol.

Ravens could use an outside rusher, most likely anthony spencer, to try and fill in for the departed adulius thomas, but blalock could still go there

and for the jags, brian williams at corner isnt exactly what i would call solid lol, but the nelson pick is good.

Pretty solid mock. I like your WR picks with the exception of Bowe.

What I dont like is some of your explanations. I think maybe you just need to brush up on the 3-4 a bit.

Carriker will be a DE at the next level regardless of whether he plays in a 3-4 or 4-3. That being said, he would still help the Tomlin's conversion to a Tampa 2.

Jamaal Anderson to SF doesnt make much sense. DEs in a 3-4 arent made to rush the passer. Moving Anderson to backer doesnt fit with the acquistion of Tully and the already having Lawson. Carriker is a much better fit as a 3-4 DE or they could look to wait and see if Harrell or Pitcock are there in the second.

I believe Poz would be an ILB in a 3-4; however, I could see him playing the outside. This would allow Bruschii or Vrabel to be outstanding bench players. Anthony Spencer or Jon Beason are much better selections for OLB in a 3-4 that late.

Since when is a 4.38 slow?

Anways, I noticed you said Carriker will play OLB and DE for the Steelers. I can't see the day when a 6-6 300 lbs player is standing up.

I don't think it's a bandwagon...I think it's a legititimate possibility, Minnesota is in need of a WR, DE, and a QB. If Calvin Johnson and Gaines Adams, the two I think they would most covet are gone, and Quinn is on the board I think they'll take him. Jackson didn't wow anyone with his performances at the end of the year (but we all expected that). Remember he was taken with the last pick in the second round, so it's not like you have to say he is the starter to be. Also Quinn is a good business choice too, having a heisman candidate from ND as your starter should bring in quite a bit of money.

We all know how your rankings of corners this year are. We all know how high you are on Houston and how low you are on Revis. I'm going by a concensus of scouting websites that I have seen to rank the corners...and nearly all state that Revis is higher. They are both first rounders though.

I'm not sure how you grade Staley as not being a bonafied power blocker, he will be able to stop rushes as well as open holes for Cedric Benson as well as the next guy.....You're too low on his grade I believe. But if it makes you feel any better I almost put Grubbs there.

I think Johnson will be one of the first ten picks in the second round....with over 200 players drafted...going from 25 to 35 because of whom a team may grade a little higher isn't really a big deal. Possibly even to Minnesota.

I appreciate all of your comments.

I think you had too much sugar when you wrote this, their are too many lol's...

You need to stop listening to others on how they grade corners and grade them on your own. Revis isn't slow by any means and should be able to hold his own as you stated.

My bad on that one, I actually wrote the wrong critique about him and switched with another reciever...It's been edited, but I still believe he goes to Tenn.

Quote:

In deed they could, never stated that the Ravens couldn't go with a replacement for Thomas, but I felt that Blalock was the better fit.

Starks, Carroll, Mathis, and Williams make up what I consider to be a pretty solid cornerback corps as long as they are healthy.

Thanks for all your comments.

I love the way you stated this. Unfortunately I financed the bandwagon, and put the gas in it, so I disagree. You made me laugh though.
