Somewhat modified draft
1.
San Francisco 49ers - Aaron Rogers, QB California | The Golden Rule is, if you have the number 1 selection, and you don\'t have a franchise quarterback, take one. Rodgers should fit nicely into the 49ers West Coast Offense.
2. Arizona Cardinals (from Miami) - Alex Smith, QB Utah | The Cardinals give up some later round picks to get their franchise QB. Denny Green doesn\'t seem to like Josh McCown at the helm of his offense and I think Smith has more potential than Aaron Rodgers.
3. Cleveland Browns - Derrick Johnson, LB Texas | With the two franchise QB\'s off the board and a little bit of a reach for Alex Barron or Jamaal Brown, the Browns address defense. Crennell will love Johnson. A lot like Tedy Bruschi just with more natural ability. An incredible player, will be an all-pro within three years.
4. Chicago Bears - Braylon Edwards, WR Michigan | They could go with Mike Williams here, but i say they go with the sure thing in Edwards, as Williams was out of football this year and no one knows how he is going to come back. The Bears can only hope he turns out better than David Terrell.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Carnell Williams, RB Auburn | It seems pretty obvious that this is the pick at this point. Gruden loves Williams ever since the Senior Bowl. Williams should start from day one and have an immediate impact.
6. Tennessee Titans - Antrel Rolle, CB Miami (FL) | Andre Dyson and/or Samari Rolle are likely gone due to salary cap issues. Antrel would form a great tandem with his brother Samari if he were to stay but if not, Rolle could be a shut-down corner within two years, maybe even from day one. A tremendous physique for a CB.
7. Oakland Raiders - Cedric Benson, RB Texas | They are lucky to have him slip this far. Benson was one of the most successful Backs in NCAA history. 4-straight 1,000 yard seasons and 38 consecutive games with a TD. He is a physical back and will start right away in a poor Oakland rushing attack.
8. Miami Dolphins (from Arizona) - Alex Barron, OT Florida State | The are likely to get either James, Henry, or Shaun Alexander in the off-season but if they don\'t, Ronnie Brown would be the selection here. Barron would address an average offensive line and has potential to be the franchise LT that every time covets.
9. Washington Redskins - Erasmus James, DE Wisconsin | They didn\'t have a legitimate pass-rusher last year, despite being the second ranked team defensively. James is the best pass-rusher in the draft and will start from day one for an already good defense.
10. Detroit Lions - Thomas Davis, S Georgia | The Lions desperately need a playmaker in the secondary. Davis is a tremendous hitter and tackler and has a knack for getting to the ball. An incredible talent, he will be an all-pro in his career.
11. Dallas Cowboys - Pac-Man Jones, CB West Virginia | The Cowboys need help in the secondary as i lost count of how many different cornerbacks started alongside Terrence Newman last year. Jones might even be an improvement over Newman himself.
12. San Diego Chargers (From NYG) - Mike Williams, WR USC | The Chargers get a future stud wideout here. Williams will form a nice tandem, whether that be Drew Brees or Philip Rivers. He will improve an already great passing attack with Gates at TE, McCardell and Tomlinson out of the backfield.
13. Houston Texans - Travis Johnson, DT Florida St. | The Texans have a solid young core on offense and now can address their defense. Johnson will be a big presence in the middle and help solidify the rush defense.
14. Carolina Panthers - Heath Miller, TE Virginia | The Panthers didn\'t live up to potential last year despite their late season run and the defense wasn\'t the porblem. Muhammad might be gone, and how good will Steve Smith be coming off a leg injury. Miller will provide a passing threat over the middle and also help out the ground game.
15. Kansas City Chiefs - Justin Miller, CB Clemson | This is an easy choice for KC. Teams passed wild against them last year and Miller will come in and help stop that from happening. An incredible athlete is Miller, and could also make an impact in the return game with Dante Hall.
16. New Orleans Saints - Channing Crowder, LB Florida | The Saints defense was horrible last year. The linebackers were the weakest of all. Crowder will start immediately and provide an impact from training camp.
17. Cincinnati Bengals - Shaun Cody, DT USC | The Bengals have a solid offense and their only glaring need on offense is TE. With Miller gone, however, they address their biggest defensive need, DL. Cody will start from day one.
18. Minnesota Vikings - Carlos Rogers, CB Auburn | The Vikings had a weak pass defense last year and Rogers will help improve that. I don\'t know how many of you watched the Virginia Tech-Auburn Rose Bowl game but V-Tech didn\'t throw to Rogers\' side once. He has an incredible reputation and should build on that in the NFL.
19. St. Louis Rams - Marlin Jackson, CB Michigan | The Rams had six interceptions last year, five by Jerametrius Butler. Jackson should start along Butler and help improve an average secondary.
20. Dallas Cowboys (from Buf) - Dan Cody, DE Oklahoma | The Cowboys could use a WR here aslo, but the Tuna addresses a bigger need. Cody will improve an average DL besides Glover and help get a pass rush on opposing quarterbacks.
21.
Jacksonville Jaguars - David Pollack, DE Georgia | Pollack, Henderson, Stroud. Sounds good doesn\'t it. Pollack will improve an already good defensive line and form a monster line with the prementioned players.
22. Baltimore Ravens - Troy Williamson, WR South Carolina | The Ravens desperately need a playmaking WR to help out Boller. Williamson could be the fastest player in the draft and provide a true deep ball threat the ravens haven\'t had in a long time.
23. Seattle Seahawks - Shawne Merriman, LB Maryland | Chad Brown and Anthony Simmons are getting older and slower each year. Merriman is a versatile player who should come in and make an impact. Whether that be on defense or special teams.
24. Green Bay Packers - Marcus Spears, DE LSU | Aaron Kampman is not a liable starting DE. Spears is. Spears had a great senior bowl which really helped his stock out and the Packers snag him at #24.
25. Denver Broncos - Anttaj Hawthorne, DT Wisconsin | The Broncos DL is aging and getting slower. Hawthorne would provide a big mobile body in the middle to help stop the opponent\'s rushing attack and maybe get a pass rush in.
26. New York Jets - Matt Roth, DE Iowa | Abraham might be gone for free agency along with Jason Ferguson. If one or both leaves, they will need some help on the defensive line. Roth had a good senior bowl which put him into the first round where the Jets will be glad to have him.
27. Atlanta Falcons - Other, Put name in explanation -> | ---Khalif Barnes, T Washington--- Barnes helped his stock tremendously in the Senior Bowl and worked his way into a first round selection. Barnes will start immediately for the Falcons and replace current tackle, Kevin Shaeffer.
28. San Diego Chargers - Ernest Shazor, S Michigan | The Chargers could use a playmaker in the secondary and Shazor can do that. Shazor was solid at Michigan and should continue his success in the NFL.
29. Indianapolis Colts - Corey Webster, CB LSU | We all know the Colts don\'t need help on offense, except maybe RB if James leaves. Webster will start from day one in a poor Indy secondary despite Mike Doss.
30. Pittsburgh Steelers - Ronnie Brown, RB Auburn | The steal of the draft. Brown only falls this far because of the lack of need at Rb for prior teams. Brown will start eventually for Pittsburgh but would be a great change of pace back for Bettis and/or Staley.
31. Philadelphia Eagles - Mark Clayton, WR Oklahoma | Freddie Mitchell might be gone and Pinkston is not a #2 reciever. Clayton can be a downfield threat and have TO go over the middle. He should start from day one.
32. New England Patriots - Other, Put name in explanation -> | ---Brandon Browner, CB Oregon State--- Although they\'re replacements were solid last year, you can\'t believe they are liable starters when Ty Law and Tyrone Poole go down or retire. Browner should come in and be a solid nickel corner and backup until either Ty Law and Tyrone Poole decide to call it quits.
