SteveF Draft
1. 49ers. Rodgers,QB, Cal.
Best QB in the draft. Leinart would have been the pick here, but Rodgers may grade out as the better pro QB anyway. This will be a huge step in getting back to an elite team in the NFL for the 49ers.
2. Dolphins. Benson,RB, Texas.
Obviously the biggest need on the team. Benson is far and away the best back in the draft and the Dolphins front office would get destroyed by the media and fans for not taking Benson.
3. Browns. Johnson,LB, Texas.
So many needs, so few picks for the Browns. If they keep this pick new coach Romeo Crennel is going to want and need athletic playmakers on defense to fit his multiple 3-4 and 2-5 defensive sets.
4. Bears. Brown,RB, Auburn.
The bigger and better of the two Auburn backs would fill a big need for the Bears. They need to get back to having a solid ground game if Rex Grossman is ever going to be a good QB. Brown also catches the ball well out of the backfield.
5. Buccanears. Rolle,CB, Miami.
The Tampa defense has gotten very old and slow over the past couple of years. They need new energy and a playmaker. Rolle will give them what they need. Also, being from Miami, it is a perfect fit.
6. Titans. Edwards, WR, Michigan.
Steve McNair has never had a WR as good as Edwards. This pick may actually keep McNair in the league for another year or two. They seem to have a good ground game going, now is the time to give McNair someone to throw to.
7. Raiders. Cody, DE, Oklahoma.
The Raiders had one of the worst running attacks ever last year. So, why a DE? I think they will be able to get a RB in free agency. Maybe a Travis Henry could end up there. The defensive line was also terrible last year. Old, fat and slow. They did not get any pressure on the QB last year and Cody has that nasty Raider attitude.
8. Cardinals. James,DE, Wisconsin.
With Emmitt Smith retiring they could go RB here, but they have pretty good offensive weapons. They need help on the d-line and James has the ability to take over games.
9. Redskins. Jackson,CB, Michigan.
They Skins defense was not good last year. Partly due to injury, but also party due to trading Champ Baily to Denver. I think they will take the most physical DB in the draft here. Jackson doesn't have great stats out of UM, but he was rarely thrown against. Played one year at safety and is a big hitter.
10. Lions. Ferguson,OT, Virginia.
The Lions are stacked at every other position on offense. Why not draft the best OL coming out? Plus, they need to protect Harrington.
11. Cowboys. Williams,WR, USC.
I'm sure that Keyshawn would love this. Fact is, the Cowboys number one target is their TE. They need more talent at WR. Keyshawn is too slow and Quincy Morgan has bad hands.
12. Chargers. Brooks,LB, Virginia.
Plenty of talent on offense for the Chargers. Defense is where they need help. Brooks fits right into the Marty style. Big, physical and fast. Reminds me a little of Junior Seau.
13. Texans. Barron,OT, FSU.
Texans need to protect Carr if they ever want to get to the playoffs. Alex Barron would be a great pick-up at 13.
14. Panthers. Williams. RB, Auburn.
A position of depth a couple of years ago quickly turned into a position of need last year. Cadillac Williams will certainly be an upgrade from Nick Goings.
15. Chiefs. Davis,S, Georgia.
Defense wins championships and the Chiefs have none. Davis will give the Chiefs defense a big hitter and playmaker in the middle of the field for a long time.
16. Saints. Webster,CB, LSU.
The Saints went defense last year with Will Smith. However, the defense still needs help. Webster would be a fan favorite right away being from LSU.
17. Bengals. Miller,TE, Virginia.
Another target for Palmer. The team also needs help on the DL, but Millers ability to get open from that position and his blocking ability make him too tough to pass up on.
18. Vikings. Pollack,DE, Georgia.
Loaded with talent on offense, the Vikings need to shore up the defense. Pollack is a high energy, never say die type of player that will not only spark the rest of the defense, but will also get pressure on QB's.
19. Rams. Kiwanuka,DE, BC.
The Rams need a lot of help on defense. Especially at DE where the loss of Grant Winstrom was really felt last year. Having a good pass rushing DE will free up the LB's in passing situations.
20. Cowboys. Wright,DT, Texas.
After getting a potential Pro Bowler in Williams with the first pick, now they need to stop the run. Wright would help a lot.
21. Jaguars. Brown, OT, Oklahoma.
The Jags D played well last year and they went offense with the first pick in last years draft. They need to keep Leftwich on his feet and off of his back.
22. Ravens. Smith, QB, Utah.
The Ravens are still looking for a QB to be the future of the franchise. It looks like they may be giving up on Boller. Smith makes sense for them. They have enough talent at QB for a couple of years so that Smith can sit, learn and get stronger. However, wouldn't be surprised if they go WR.
23. Seahawks. Hawthorne,DT,Wisconsin.
No question that D is where the Seahawks need help. They have good talent at ever offensive skill position and a good line. It never hurts to put a big run stopper in the middle.
24. Packers. Miller,CB, Clemson.
Now I know that the Pack needs a QB for the future, but no way is Charlie Frye a first rounder. I think Favre comes back and they address the DB problem here. This defense gave up a lot of points this year and there are lot of very good WR's in this division that need to be covered.
25. Broncos. Spears,DE, LSU.
The Broncos need a pass rusher. They rely too much on blitzing LB's to get pressure. Spears would provide what they need.
26. Jets. Clayton,WR,Oklahoma.
If Clayton is still here, this is a lock. The Jets need to get more talent at the skill psitions to surround Pennington. Santana Moss, the number one WR, lacks ideal size to be the go to guy.
27. Falcons. Crowder,LB, Florida.
Most people think the Falcons need a WR here. However, Vick never throws to the ones he has, so why waste a pick. Improve the defense. Mora is a defensive guy and Crowder would give him a very athletic big man that is always near the ball.
28. Chargers. Roth,DE, Iowa.
Adding Roth with Brooks makes this defense look better already. Both are intense guys that would fit right in with Marty ball.
29. Colts. Cody,DT, USC.
Anything on defense would help. However, the Colts run defense is especially bad. Cody would help fill that hole.
30. Steelers. Jones,CB,WVU.
The biggest weakness on this team is CB. Jones would make a great addition.
31. Eagles. Johnson,DT, FSU.
The Eagles don't have many holes. Run stopping would probably be the one area they could use some help.
32. Patriots. Rodgers,CB, Auburn.
If Rodgers is available for the Pats. it would be just what they need. They had a lot of injuries in the defensive backfield this year and Rodgers may be the biggest playmaking DB in the draft. He was easily the defensive MVP for Auburn last year.
