What do you guys think of this mock draft
Team - Player | Description
1.
San Francisco 49ers - Alex Smith, QB Utah | He fits the mold that the 49ers like to have in their system: that run and gun west coast style qb just like steve young.
2. Miami Dolphins - Cedric Benson, RB Texas | The dolphins need for a running back is extreme and benson is a tough hard nosed runner just like the dolphins loved in Ricky Williams.
3. Cleveland Browns - Aaron Rogers, QB California | QB is a huge need in Cleveland with young players on offense a new QB could be all that they need to go with Winslow and company.
4. Arizona Cardinals - Ronnie Brown, RB Auburn | With a young tough running back to go with Fitzgerald and Boldin at reciever now all they need is for McCown to step up and play like Denny Green thinks he can for a dynamite team.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Mike Williams, WR USC | With Tim Brown and Joey Galloway getting older by the second they have a quick deep play threat in Clayton now all they need is that guy that can go across the middle for that first down to compliment new QB Brian Griese.
6. Tennessee Titans - Alex Barron, OT Florida State | With both of their tackles getting older and sooner or later going to become cap casualities Barron is a good fit for the titans offense after playing in a high powered one at FSU.
7. Oakland Raiders - Carnell Williams, RB Auburn | The raiders are looking to fill so many holes Cadillac is a good fit for Norv Turners offense where a RB is desperately needed.
8. Chicago Bears - Braylon Edwards, WR Michigan | The Bears this year found their running back in Thomas Jones and they believe that Grossman is thier man at QB and now they need to give him a big reciever that can go out and make plays for him.
9. Washington Redskins - Heath Miller, TE Virginia | Might possibly be the steal of the draft at number nine. Will become an immediate starter in coach Gibbs\' double TE run first offense. Also, has great hands when needed to catch some passes.
10. Detroit Lions - Erasmus James, DE Wisconsin | With their offense now put in place as long as they can stay healthy. If the Lions are able to get any production from Harrington and some improved play from the defense NFC Central look out. To improve that defense would be pass rush specialist Erasmus James replacing the retired Robert Porcher giving them speed on the outside, something they lack.
11. Dallas Cowboys - Antrel Rolle, CB Miami (FL) | With the secondary just absolutely getting shredded this year it has got to be the main concern. And with the decline in play of Terrence Newman and the unproven Pete Hunter Rolle could be an immediate starter in Nickle and Dime and even could be the starter by seasons start.
12. San Diego Chargers (From NYG) - Ahmad Brooks, LB Virginia | With the speed that Brooks has he could be an immediate starter in Wade Phillips\' 3-4 defense. Also, could be a great special teams player immedaiatley. Great pick for the Chargers defensive scheme.
13. Houston Texans - Jammal Brown, OT Oklahoma | With Barron off the board Brown is their best bet here. With the no return of Tony Boselli an OT to protect Carr\'s blindside is huge. Brown proved in college he can block both for pass and run and would be a major upgrade for the Texans offensive line who gives up more sacks than most.
14. Carolina Panthers - Derrick Johnson, LB Texas | With Johnson slipping this far it is a no brainer that the aging Panthers LB core could use some young blood in it. Johnson could have the potentail to take over for the aging Mark Fields right away or he may have to fill in for the often injured Dan Morgan. He has that sideline to sideline motor that never stops running that coaches love.
15. Kansas City Chiefs - Thomas Davis, S Georgia | The Chiefs defense or lack their of is thier major concern and a hard hitting safety would be a great place to start. Davis would provide them with some intimidation for opposing players going across the middle. Although the Chiefs have a tendency to draft players at positions they dont need so stay tuned and see what Vermeil and company do this year. Don\'t be surprised to see Chiefs trade Priest Holmes and maybe end up with another first rounder to draft a shut down corner to really bolster that lack of defense. Yes, trade Priest Holmes Blaylock played well last season and Johnson is the future there.
16. New Orleans Saints - Corey Webster, CB LSU | The CBs for the Saints are getting older and slower therefore causing a need in the secondary. Webster would be a good compliment to McKenzie who they acquired through trade last season.
17. Cincinnati Bengals - Anttaj Hawthorne, DT Wisconsin | With Wright going back to Texas for his senior year Hawthorne is the best DT in the draft and the Bengals need a big man in the middle that can help stop the run which they didnt do much of last year. Hawthorne also is quick enough to rush the passer so he is not a liability in passing downs.
18. Minnesota Vikings - Channing Crowder, LB Florida | The Vikings are willing to take a gamble on Crowder here because thier LB crew is so weak. Croder\'s intelligence is what coaches are falling in love with most. With his speed and intelligence in the middle it would help solidify the pass coverage of the LBs of the Vikings would struggled dearly with that this year. This would allow the Vikings to move EJ Henderson (who didnt pan out the Vikings had hoped) to strong side LB.
19. St. Louis Rams - Pac-Man Jones, CB West Virginia | The Rams safetys are solid but thier corners are at best suspect and dont know how to make the big plays and cause turnovers. Pac-Man is not afraid to come up and stick his nose in the running game and with his athleticism he has the ability and uses it to make big plays. Also, could be a very good punt and kick returner for the Rams.
20. Dallas Cowboys (from Buf) - David Pollack, DE Georgia | Wouldnt think you would see a 3 time all SEC player and the top Lineman fall this far but for the Cowboys this is a gift. They got this pick from the Bills after deciding to wait and draft Juilius Jones(great thinking) and now were able to get a young DE to add to that D-Line. Pollack has one of those non-stop motors coaches love and he knows how to make the big plays.
21.
Jacksonville Jaguars - Dan Cody, DE Oklahoma | After cutting both of their starters at this position last year a DE is a large need. Cody will provide them with some much needed pass rush, although undersized still has the speed and skills to get to the quarterback.
22. Baltimore Ravens - Mark Clayton, WR Oklahoma | The Ravens lack of a big time reciever has been a huge problem in the past. They will draft Clayton in hopes of him being that big play guy they need although its a stretch that hes that guy. Although I expect them to be big pursuers in the Randy Moss area so if they would happen to land him dont be surprised to see them take Ferguson from Virgina to solidify the right side of the line opposite of Ogden.
23. Seattle Seahawks - Other, Put name in explanation -> | Ciatrick Fason would be a cheap alternative if Alexander demands too much money as a free agent. He would have a year to mature and learn the offense as Alexander has one year left on his contract. With Hasselbeck and Walter Jones also free agents Alexander is surely not thier top priority so they may not have the kind of money he is looking for.
24. Green Bay Packers - Odell Thurman, ILB Georgia | Thurman would be a great fit for the Packers defense. This would allow the Packers to move Barnett to outside linebacker and let him use his speed. Thurman is a big though player that while playing last year was a force to be reckoned with. Carlos Rogers from Auburn is also another possibility here seeing as how Ahmad Caroll has problems with penalities. The Packers will still get thier most prized posession Akron QB Charlie Fry with their early second round choice they acquired from the Saints for Mike McKenzie. Also, look for the Packers to be shopping Ahman Green to get some help on that defense. If they are able to trade Green and get a good LB for him then the Packers may look at Matt Roth from Iowa. Roth would be a great compliment to a fellow Iowa alumni Aaron Kampman. The Packers would be best suit to move KGB to an outside LB with Diggs and then have Thurman and Barnett playing ILB and having Grady Jackson anchor the middle.
25. Denver Broncos - Marcus Spears, DE LSU | Trevor Price is a great D-Line man dont get me wrong but he gets constant double teams because of the lack of guys on the line around him. Spears is a tough player who has proven he can stop the run, which is crucial when playing in a conference with Priest Holmes, and LT. He also has the speed to get around the edge to wreak havoc on the qb. Great pick here for the Broncos.
26. New York Jets - Marlin Jackson, CB Michigan | Donnie Abraham is getting old and so is the site of himg getting beat. Jackson is a tough physical corner that gets up into his guy, likes to play bump and run and has a knack for interceptions. Would be a great fit for a team that is rebuilding with young on the defense.
27. Atlanta Falcons - Craphonso Thorpe, WR Florida St. | The Falcons are looking to add a big player reciever to complement their tough go across the middle TE Alge Crumpler. Thorpe has the ability to be that guy that Vick needs. Thorpe has the potential of Javon Walker and Anquain Boldin if not better. If he turns out and Michael Jenkins comes around look out folks Mike Vick just got more dangerous.
28. San Diego Chargers - Chris Henry, WR West Virginia | The Chargers biggest play reciever is their TE and they would love to add a big play reciever. Henry has the speed that coaches drool about and with a veteran like Keenen McCardell there to take him under his wing Henry could develop into a big time star for Brees or Rivers which ever they decided to keep.
29. Indianapolis Colts - Justin Miller, CB Clemson | We all know the colts offense is about as good as it gets but the defense is the real problem. Miller would provide them with a great corner to help shutdown the pass. With Freeney and Mathis coming off the edges causing problems for opposing QB\'s Miller has the ability to create big plays. He also is not afraid to come up and stop the run.
30. Pittsburgh Steelers - Travis Johnson, DT Florida St. | The Steelers are pretty solid on both sides of the ball and it is very unlikely that a rookie will find himself significant minutes this year. Johnson has great potential and in the Steelers system a couple years from now could turn out to be a great run stopper which he already is and a dominant pass rusher up the middle.
31. New England Patriots - Other, Put name in explanation -> | Carlos Rogers would be a great help the a secondary that this year was decimated by injuries. He wont find himself starting but could find himself in nickle and dime situations very early on. He could also be used on punt returns to allow Troy Brown to concentrate solely on offense this year giving the patriots another offensive weapon.
32. Philadelphia Eagles - Ernest Shazor, S Michigan | Although the Eagles have to pro bowl safeties Dawkins is getting older and soon enough wont be able to play up to par. Shazor is a big hitter just like Dawkins and playing behind him Shazor could be a big star in Philly in a couple of years.
