Default Frank Beamer to the rescue!!

This proves how I've been saying Jimmy Williams has been a terribly overanalyzed prospect. He's been a victim of terrible pre-draft rumors including that his attitude sucked at Va. Tech and that he also is bi-polar. Frank Beamer released a letter disclaiming both things...

"Over the past several years, in an effort to avoid dissemination of misinformation, we have provided the NFL scouts written description of our NFL draft eligible players. … It has now come to our attention that there is some incorrect information being distributed concerning Jimmy Williams. Jimmy was never dismissed from a practice session nor was he ever diagnosed as bipolar."

He also said that Williams was "Very competitive, a big corner with athletic ability; a good person; good team leader [during his] senior year."

Beamer is one of the most respected college coaches in NFL circles. This will definitely make a difference in how Williams is being viewed.

I'm not to sure how much of a difference. I think Williams will go as high as #13 to the Ravens but definately he's not going top 10. Mack Brown has tried similar pleas with Vince Young and it hasn't worked. Beamer is doing the exact samething. Whether it works or not Williamd won't fall out of the top 20. He has to much talent right now and upside not to go top 20.

Whoa whoa whoa, you're saying that something a coach says about his player is somehow going to change that player's draft stock?? Come on, haha. I don't care if it's freakin Vince Lombardi making the comment; coaches need to show commitment to their players (which looks good to future recruits), and there's no downside to saying good things about an ex-player. Just about every coach in college football would do the same thing in a similar circumstance; it's like a prerequisite to the job. This will have absolutely zero effect on Williams' draft stock.

And I have nothing against Williams; he should be a top 20 pick.

McShay went on to say that he's contacted two different NFL head coaches and that they think this should clear up all the draft rumors about Williams. If it were any other head coach then ok, but Beamer is well respected in the NFL ranks. So laugh all you want. Williams has been so overanalyzed that it's not funny. He's being treated similarly to Vince Young in that the media is concentrating and looking for negative things about him. It's been ridiculous. He was not that bad last season. Teams threw at him a lot less. He's still the best CB in the draft if you don't count Huff as a CB.

Beamer profits is Williams goes higher, as it will help w/ recruiting in the future. It's almost like asking the guys mom what she thinks.

I'm not attacking Williams at all, just the idea that NFL execs are taking the comments as unbiased amuses me.

It's more of saying that Williams wasn't kicked out of any practices and has no history of mental illness that's going to help him. Those were two terrible rumors that were started about him this offseason by the media.

I don't think this clears Williams ranks with NFL officals. It clears up any rumors no doubt but in interviews if teams thought Williams came across bad, then I think there intentions towards him will remain pretty much the same. Any rumors about him having depression problems or acting up in practices have been put to rest though. So it may help but I wouldn't bet on it having a huge effect on his stock. I think he still goes in that 13-20 range. Maybe he goes to the Rams but at #11 I just think they'll be better players on the board like Ngata for one example.
