Final Mock (only round 1)
1. Miami Dolphins – Jake Long, OT, Michigan
It seems as if a deal is close here, and I believe need-wise and $ wise this makes the most sense.
2. St. Louis Rams – Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Biggest impact defensive player in the draft IMO, should fill in to a starting role nicely.
3. Atlanta Falcons – Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Matt Ryan will get looked at long and hard here but with Brian Brohm potentially sitting there in round two I think they opt for Dorsey to help sure up the defensive line where they are weak at DT.
4. Oakland Raiders – Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State
Tough pick, but they do have capable RB’s, and I think if anyone after McFadden is the “sexy” pick it is Gholston. He should fit well there, playing defensive end where Tommy Kelly played last year.
5. Kansas City Chiefs – Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
Hmm, well they didn’t get jake long, and croyle didn’t play too great this year. Rumor has it they are high on Ryan, and I think if he gets by Atlanta they won’t let he slip any further.
6. New York Jets – Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
The Jets want Gholston it seems (why I don’t know they don’t need anymore 3-4 OLB’s), but I don’t think they can complain about getting Run DMC
7. New England Patriots – Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Asante Samuel replacement.
8. Baltimore Ravens – Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie, CB/FS, Tennessee State
Corners are old on this team, Cromartie bring speed and youth to the secondary, and can even play FS.
9. Cincinnati Bengals – Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
Kind of a no brainer here, suring up the inside that isn’t stout vs. the run.
10. New Orleans Saints – Mike Jenkins, CB/S, South Florida
DT is the key need here, but with balmer not worthy of this spot, they opt for Jenkins who should end up a starter at corner for them by midseason if not the start.
11. Buffalo Bills – Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Rivers could tempt here, yet I think with Cromartie and Jenkins off the board they’ll go WR, and the apparent number 1 right now is Thomas.
12. Denver Broncos – Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State
It’s pretty clear this is the guy Denver covets and they should get him.
13. Carolina Panthers – Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
They are in need of a left tackle with Wahle moving inside to guard.
14. Chicago Bears – Brandon Albert, OG, Virginia
RB looks real good right here, but no RB can do anything without good line play. Albert has tackle potential but is still a guard, but this fits because the bears have needs at both. He can start wherever he fits best.
15. Detroit Lions – Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
With the release of Kevin Jones this move seems obvious.
16. Arizona Cardinals – Aquib Talib, CB, Kansas
Antrelle Rolle is moving to safety and their other corners are decent to weak… Talib has all the tools to be a shutdown corner in the pros
17. Kansas City Chiefs – Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
With Jared Allen to Minny there is a hole at DE. Harvey teamed with Hali gives them a young duo at DE that should be a force for many years t come.
18. Houston Texans – Keith Rivers, M/OLB, USC
Maybe a surprising pick, but they did lose some guys and aside from Ryans there’s no one who is any good.
19. Philadelphia Eagles – Jerod Mayo, MLB, Tennessee
Eagles LB core needs to be strengthened and Mayo brings needed size and speed.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers –. Chris Williams, OT, Vandy
They sured up the right side of the line in joseph and trublood but LT is still a hole.
21. Washington Redskins - Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
Should serve as a good compliment to their small quick bunch
22. Dallas Cowboys – Desean Jackson, WR, California
They get the speedy playmaker to team up with T.O.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers – Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
Age and free Agency are beginning to take its toll on pitt’s O-line
24. Tennessee Titans – James Hardy, WR, Indiana
They need a playmaking WR and Hardy is a big target for Young to hit downfield.
25. Seattle Seahawks – Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
Not sure what seattle will do, but I hear they are high on Balmer, and I could see him fitting in there.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars – Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
D-line being a strength of the Jags seems to be a thing of the past, so they try and help revive it.
27. San Diego Chargers – Sam Baker, OT, USC
They could use someone with a little bit of youth to play opposite McNeil.
28. Dallas Cowboys – Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina
I agree with cubs here on Johnson being the better prospect than Felix Jones.
29. San Francisco 49ers – Mario Mannigham, WR, Michigan
Worked his way back into the late first and there are no other WR’s better available.
30. Green Bay Packers – Dan Conner, M/OLB, Penn State
Fills in the final LB spot giving them a nasty lineup of Hawk, Barnett, and Connor.
31. New England Patriots – No Pick
32. New York Giants – Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
Sammy Knight isn’t the long term answer at safety, and the giants would love another playmaker in the secondary. Might even line up at some corner for them.
Notable falls:
Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon – just not any team with a big enough need later on to take him. Houston will go with a RB later, and he doesn’t fit the dallas scheme. Philly, Pitt, Tenn, and Green Bay are also places he will prob get looked at tho.
Others include
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
Fred Davis, TE, USC
Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland
Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame
Quentin Groves, DE/OLB
