Default Saint's Second Mock

Ok so I was board, thought i'd put together a post Senior Bowl mock, 3 rounds

ROUND 1

1. MIA - Chris Long DE Virginia

Had Dorsey here for awhile, but his stock has kinda slipped with Sedrick Ellis' fantastic Senior Bowl week. Long is more versatile and fits the Tuna's 3-4 mold better.

2. STL - Jake Long OT Michigan

It's more likely that St. Louis can get a second tier DT in the second round (ie. Balmer, Sims, Okam, Laws) than a second tier OT (ie. Baker, Otah, Williams) with their second round pick, so they stabilize their biggest need with this pick.

3. OAK - Darren McFadden RB Arkansas

Al Davis loves flashy players, McFadden is exactly that. He will be a great help to JaMarcus Russell, so he can rely on the run game early in his career.

4. KC - Glenn Dorsey DT LSU

KC is stuck to either reach on Clady here, or take BPA. Glenn Dorsey, Tank Tyler, and Turk McBride will make a very formidable young DT trio.

5. ATL - Matt Ryan QB Boston College

No McFadden, then they go QB. It's that simple.

6. NYJ - Sedrick Ellis DT USC

Jets will upgrade their front 7 here, and if Ellis is available, he's the easy pick.

7. NE - Leodis McKelvin CB Troy

McKelvin may not pick off as many passes as the player he's replacing, Asante Samuel. But he has the same great instincts on breaking on balls, he just doesn't have the hands to pair with it. None the less, the Pats would love to have him.

8. BAL - DeSean Jackson WR Cal

Not many of you will like this pick, but I really don't like Brohm this high, especially with the a pretty deep QB class. Jackson will be the Ted Ginn Jr. pick of this draft.

9. CIN - Vernon Gholston DE Ohio St.

Cincinnati will go with the best defensive player period, unless its a CB, which it's not. Gholston relpaces underachiever Justin Smith.

10. NO - Mike Jenkins CB USF

New Orleans needs CB help, and should land a good one here. It's hard to see them not getting a chance on Jenkins or McKelvin.

11. BUF - Dan Connor LB Penn St.

Connor can join teammate Paul Pos, and solidify a young LB trio.

12. DEN - Kenny Phillips S Miami

Lynch and Nick Ferguson are nearing the ends, time to bring in some youth.

13. CAR - Ryan Clady OT Boise St.

It's not often that both your starting tackles are FAs in the same year. Clady is an upgrade over Wharton anyway.

14. CHI - Brian Brohm QB Louisville

Jerry Angelo says they are content with their QBs. But I'm calling his bluff here.

15. DET - Derrick Harvey DE Florida

Detroit has a number of needs, including in no particular order QB, RB, OT, DE, LB, and CB. Maybe even DT if they let Shaun Rodgers go. So they go with BPA, so Harvey is the guy.

16. ARI - Keith Rivers LB USC

If they let Karlos Dansby leave via FA, LB will be a big need. Rivers is a great value pick here as well.

17. MIN - Lawrence Jackson DE USC

A lil high for Jackson, yes. But I see him as a much better fit for the Vikings than Calais Campbell, Campbell reminds me of Kenechi Udeze, a good run stopper with some pass rush ability. Jackson is the pure pass rusher that the Vikings need. I know I've said I don't think the Vikings need a DE that badly, but with no safeties worth this pick, and no WR left that I like worth this pick (not to mention Childress apparently "doesn't draft 1st round WRs") DE seems like the best pick here.

18. HOU - Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois

The Texans need a running game, and Mendenhall is just what the doctor ordered.

19. PHI - Early Doucet WR LSU

Phili has been in need of a #1 WR for awhile now. I like Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis, but a 3rd WR should be brought to make the other 2 even better. Curtis is better suited out of the slot anyway.

20. TB - Andre Woodson QB Kentucky

Should Tampa grab the QB of the future here, or address a bigger need somewhere else. I think Woodson at this point would just be too tempting to pass on. Plus Jon Gruden can never have too many QBs.

21. WAS - Calais Campbell DE Miami

Like Minnesota, I believe Washington would prefer Jackson at this point, seeing as he is the better pass rusher. But Campbell does have the potential to get to the QB consistently and I don't see them reaching for any other DE, so Campbell is the pick.

22. SEA - Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon

Seattle needs help in the running game. That means upgrades on the O-line and at RB, and although it's deep draft at RB, they can get a top G later in the draft as well. Might as well take a stud back like Stewart while he's available rather than reach for a guard prospect.

23. DAL - Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma

Patrick Crayton almost single handedly cost the Boys the Giants game. Terry Glenn probably won't be back. So it's time to grab some new talent at WR.

24. PIT - Jeff Otah OT Pitt.

Pittsburgh needs help pretty much across the line. Otah has the versatility to play G or T.

25. TEN - Limas Sweed WR Texas

Sweed joins fellow Longhorns VY and Bo Scaife in Tennessee's young passing attack.

26. SD - Sam Baker OT USC

This was a hard pick between Aqib Talib, Reggie Smith and Baker. I really don't know how to justify Baker over the other two, to be honest I might as well have just flipped a coin.

27. JAX - Aqib Talib CB Kansas

Brian Williams is good, but not great. Jacksonville has Talib fall right into their lap and is more than happy to pull the trigger.

28. GB - Antoine Cason CB Arizona

Green Bay has it's choice between Cason and Smith. Reggie Smith is probably the better prospect, but it's his versatility that gives him the nod. GB is looking purely for a CB, because they are set at S, so they go with Cason who has more potential at CB than Smith.

29. DAL - Reggie Smith DB Oklahoma

Dallas is happy GB opted for the better corner rather than DB prospect, because Smiths versatility is exactly what the Boys need.

30. SF - Chris Williams OT Vanderbilt

Joe Staley was disappointing in his first season, and will probably stay at RT for his career. So Williams can come in at LT to replace injury prone Jonas Jennings.

31. NYG - Erin Henderson LB Maryland

Henderson has been shooting up my board for awhile, and if he ends up as good as his brother, he will more than justify this pick.

ROUND 2

32. MIA - Chad Henne QB Michigan

No need to rely solely on John Beck as the future, might as well give him some competition. And personally I don't think Beck is really a Parcells type guy.

33. STL - Kentwan Balmer DT UNC

Looks like a good move St. Louis made passing up on Dorsey for Long. Balmer falls right into their laps.

34. ATL - Felix Jones RB Arkansas

Couldn't get McFadden in round one, so they settle for his teammate Jones here in the second.

35. KC - Gosder Cherilus OT Boston College

They need OL help badly. Cherilus is the best available, so they go with him

36. OAK - James Hardy WR Indiana

The Raiders continue to focus on upgrading their poor offense, and helping out 1st overall pick JaMarcus Russell

37. NYJ - Mario Manningham WR Michigan

After adressing the front 7 the Jets need to add a playmaker on offense.

38. SF - Pat Sims DT Auburn

SF can use some help upfront on their defense. Aubrayo Franklin did a decent job in the center, and Marques Douglas is a solid 3-4 DE, so Pat Sims can replace retired Bryant Young.

39. BAL - Joe Flacco QB Delaware

After adding a key playmaker in round one, they bring in the QB to compete with Troy Smith as the QB of the future.

40. CIN - Ali Highsmith LB LSU

Cinci has LB problems galore. But if Odell Thurman or David Pollack are back next year, it won't be as bad. They shouldn't rely on either of those though, so Highsmith makes sense here.

41. NO - Trevor Laws DT Notre Dame

I really like Laws, and even though this is a little high now, come draft time, I fully expect his stock to be up here. New Orleans addresses its 2 biggest needs with its first 2 picks.

42. BUF - Fred Davis TE USC

This pick seems to be becoming more and more popular (lol). Buffalo needs a big target for the redzone, enter Davis.

43. DEN - John Greco OT Toledo

Denver's O-line took a blow with the unexpected retirement of LT Matt Lepsis. Although they like Ryan Harris, competition should be addressed

44. CAR - Phillip Merling DE Clemson

Charles Johnson and Phillip Merling will make a good rotation at DE across from Julius Peppers.

45. CHI - Jarod Mayo LB Tennessee

With Briggs on his way out, the Bears bring in a solid replacement in Mayo.

46. DET - Terrell Thomas CB USC

The Lions secondary is scary, especially at corner. They added a pass rush in round one, so they finish it off with secondary help in round 2.

47. ARI - Quentin Groves DE/OLB Auburn

Groves falls because he doesn't fit any scheme other than a 3-4. The Cards need a OLB to rush the QB, so Groves is the easy choice.

48. MIN - Adarius Bowman WR Oklahoma St.

Ok this may be a little bit of wishful thinking, that the Vikings get the WR that I've touted in the second round for the second year in a row. Last year I loved Sidney Rice and the Vikings landed him in round 2. This year I'm crazy for Bowman and his disappointing performance in the Senior Bowl may have just dropped him enough to land him here.

49. ATL - Red Bryant DT Texas A&M

Letting Grady Jackson go last year mid season, was a weird move. Now they have the chance to make up for it.

50. PHI - Heath Benedict OT Newberry

Phili fans will be forever haunted in their dreams of the night Osi Umenyiora manhandled Winston Justice.

51. TB - Devin Thomas WR Michigan St.

Gotta love them Spartans (my cousin went to Mich St. for hockey lol). Tampa needs a WR, he is the best available.

52. WAS - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee St.

Washington's need at CB isn't the biggest, but DRC is versatile and is just to good of a value to pass up on here.

53. CLE - Frank Okam DT Texas

Cleveland can bring in a big NT to eventually replace Ted Washington

54. SEA - Roy Schuening Oregon St.

As I said, RB in the first, guard in the second. They are able to land the best G in the draft here.

55. PIT - Craig Steltz S LSU

Not only has Anthony Smith been attacked for his guarantee in the Pats game, he's also been attacked on the football field, and hasn't quite held his own.

56. TEN - Chirs Ellis DE Virginia Tech

The Titans need help opposite KVB. Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy are both FAs and not worth resigning except for depth purposes.

57. MIA - Anthony Collins OT Kansas

Miami has a very OL, they've addressed their defense and QB with the first 2 picks, this is where they go to the OL.

58. JAX - Phillip Wheeler MLB Georgia Tech

Mike Peterson is getting up there in age, and has had some injury concerns the last few years. This way they don't have to keep moving Daryl Smith inside if he does get injured again.

59. GB - Steve Slaton RB West Virginia

Ryan Grant is the real deal, but that doesn't mean GB should put the whole running game on his shoulders. Slaton would make a very nice complement to Grants straight forward running style.

60. DAL - Jamaal Charles RB Texas

Jones is out, so they bring in Charles to help Barber out in the running game.

61. IND - Will Arnold OG LSU

Indi doesn't have many glaring needs. Arnold can make this o-line practically complete.

62. NYG - Brandon Flowers CB Virginia Tech

The Giants secondary has stepped up big this post season, but still some youth at corner and an upgrade at safety is needed.

63. NE - Curtis Lofton MLB Oklahoma

They went secondary in the first, so they go with a young stud MLB here.

ROUND 3

64. MIA - Tracy Porter CB Indiana

65. STL - John David Booty QB USC

66. NE - Earl Bennett WR Vanderbilt

67. KC - Donnie Avery WR Houston

68. ATL - Jonathan Hefney S Tennessee

69. NYJ - Shawn Crable LB Michigan

70. SF - Andre Caldwell WR Florida

71. BUF - Justin King CB Penn State

72. CIN - DeMario Pressley DT NC State

73. NO - Xavier Adibi LB Virginia Tech

74. MIN - Marcus Griffin S Texas

75. BUF - Duane Brown T Virginia Tech

76. CAR - Dennis Dixon QB Oregon

77. CHI - Carl Nicks OT Nebraska

78. DET - Mike Hart RB Michigan

79. ARI - Ray Rice RB Rutgers

80. MIN - Oniel Cousins OT UTEP

81. HOU- DeJuan Tribble CB Boston College

82. PHI - Martellus Bennett TE Texas A&M

83. TB - Chevis Jackson CB LSU

84. WAS- Lavelle Hawkins WR Cal

85. CLE - Tashard Choice RB Georgia Tech

86. SEA - Dre Moore DT Maryland

87. PIT - Patrick Lee CB Auburn

88. TEN - Jordan Dizon LB Colorado

89. CHI - Jordy Nelson WR Kansas St.

90. JAX - DJ Hall WR Alabama

91. GB - Bruce Davis LB UCLA

92. DAL - Charles Godfery DB Iowa

93. IND - Marcus Harrison DT Arkansas

94. NYG - Josh Barrett S Arizona St.

95. NE - Tom Zbikowski S Notre Dame

You're right. I don't like the Jackson pick to Baltimore. Just doesn't really make sense. I don't like Brohm that high either, but there are other options. Vernon Gholston would be a great one.

Question that doesn't pertain to the draft... How is Justin Smith an underachiever? He's not a natural pass rusher, but his motor never stops. He had 78 tackles this season as a DE. That's a lot of tackles. He's one of the best run stopping DEs in the league -- a lost commodity.

Calais Campbell is a terrible run stopper. That shows in the way Miami used him. He played weak side for the Canes and he's how big? He's a better pass rusher than Jackson, but I'd say Jackson is the better run stopper. I think they grade the same, but both are late 1st round picks at best right now.

Your first round draft order is wrong. Dallas is picking at 22... Seattle at 25. It's wrong on the site right now. Find the order elsewhere.

Terry Glenn probably will be back for Dallas. I don't like Malcolm Kelly. I will be disappointed if the Cowboys pick him. He's got the size and potential, but he's never shown to be anything but a deep route receiver and he doesn't always get good separation.

I think Talib is a top 20 pick.

Miami has more dire needs, especially on defense, than a QB in the second round. Expect Parcells to go defensive heavy in the first day of the draft.

There are other things I don't like in the other two rounds (obviously, it's me after all), but I'm in a hurry so I'll just comment bout Dallas' other two picks. I like em. I'd love to see Jamaal Charles with a star on his helmet. Godfrey is a good kick returner and would be nice in the slot.

Daryl Smith's natural position, is actually MLB. Some say he does a better job than Mike Peterson.

I don't know why Jackson makes no sense at that point, his stock is falling for no real reason. I've had him projected as a top 10 pick from the beginning and although he will probably drop based on need, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him in the top 10. Baltimore has needs on both sides of the ball, and I think WR is just as big of need as DE/OLB

You know what, I admit ignorance on the Justin Smith and Calais Campbell comments. Still prefer Jackson over Campbell, I love Jackson's motor, think he could sneak his way into the top 20 with a good showing at the combine and personal workouts

Why do you say that Terry Glenn is likely coming back. I heard he needed surgery that could take him out for awhile, and at this point in his career, will likely be enough to hang up the cleats.

I really like Talib and agree, he just kinda fell in my draft. Just couldn't find a place to slip him in, other than Dallas

Last report I read on Terry Glenn is he's trying to put the surgery off. If he can, he'll be back. If he can't, that's the end of his career probably.
