Default 2009 NFL Draft Player Rankings

Also a column for the main site I wrote on Stafford and Crabtree

NFL Draft Thoughts 09 - Fantasy Football Jungle

1. Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

Forget about an injury that will heal and a 40 time that doesn't matter. He's one of only three elite or special receiver prospects we've seen this decade. The two others being Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson.

2. Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

The only defensive player in the draft that I think you can build an entire defense around.

3. Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

A future left tackle that displays a great combination of technique and strength.

4. Brian Orakpo, DE/LB, Texas

A hybrid pass rusher that could be dominate as long as he doesn't take plays off.

5. B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College

A run stuffing defensive lineman with the ability to provide an inside pass rush.

6. Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern California

An efficient passer that has all the tools. Not as good as Carson Palmer, but better than Matt Leinart.

7. Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

A solid, but not great tackle prospect that should be a starter for along time.

8. Andre Smith, OL, Alabama

Much like Leonard Davis, I think Smith will struggle at tackle and develop into a Pro Bowl caliber guard in a power running offense.

9. Tyson Jackson, DE, Louisiana State

A five technique in the 3-4. Not a pass rusher, but outstanding run stopper.

10. Aaron Maybin DE/LB, Penn State

A young project that has as much potential as any defensive player in the draft.

11. Everette Brown, DE/LB, Florida State

Doesn't look like an every down player, but should find a home as a pass rusher with the ability to get double digit sacks.

12. Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss

A stout defensive tackle that should be drafted a lot higher than what some are projecting.

13. Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

A boom or bust prospect. He'll either be a really solid starting tackle or an inconsistent lineman that is over-matched by the NFL.

14. Clay Matthews, LB, Southern California

Doesn't do anything flashy, but finds ways to get the job done. Very similar to Mike Vrabel.

15. Brian Cushing, LB, Southern California

Really good coverage skills for a linebacker. Will either be on the strong-side in a 4-3 or the inside in the 3-4.

16. Malcolm Jenkins, DB, Ohio State

Great in coverage, but lacks the speed you'd like for a corner. Probably a safety sooner rather than later.

17. Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia

A nifty runner who plays much more elusive than what his timed speed would indicate.

18. Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia

A big armed quarterback with all the tools to be great, but the consistency could be his downfall.

19. Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois

A great athlete that possess skills that can't be taught, but is very raw in coverage.

20. Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee

Looks the part and worksout well, but has never had the consistent production.

21. Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri

A deep threat that could be a real weapon, but I see as much Troy Williamson than I do Steve Smith.

22. Eben Britton, OT, Arizona

Does everything good and could be a longtime starter at right tackle.

23. William Beatty, OT, Connecticut

A potential left tackle that is a bit of a project. Has all the tools, but needs to be coached up some.

24. Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest

An instinctive player that will give up some big plays, but also make quite few as well.

25. Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut

If he can put all his attributes together, he could emerge as a late first round steal.

26. Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut

An underrated back that should also be used as an asset in the passing game as well as running the ball.

27. Louis Delmas, S, Western Michigan

A physical safety that displays good range on the field.

28. Percy Harvin, WR, Florida

If utilize properly, he could be a dangerous offensive threat in any offense.

29. Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State

A physical back that does everything well except for staying on the field.

30. Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina

A possession receiver that isn't going to get a lot of separation, but he can go up and get the jump ball with the best of them.

Aarron Curry is spider like in the way that he covers so much ground so quickly. I have another ILB that hits harder than Curry and you can build a defense around, his name is Frantz Joseph of FIU. Remember his name he's an every down linebacker who brings the thunder.
