Possible Draft Day trades
I don't agree with much of this, but found it an interesting read. This was done by Chad Reuter, Senior Analyst for NFLDraftScout.com.
We might as well have a thread with discussion about draft day trades anyway.
Exploring some possibilities:
Kansas City (5) to Miami (1) or St. Louis (2): Word is the Chiefs are interested enough in either QB Matt Ryan or OT Jake Long to move into position ahead of Atlanta.
Price: KC gives up a 2008 first, second; 2009 first. MIA may want one of KC's extra 2008 fifth/sixths, as well.
Similar trade: NYG gave up its 2004 first (#4 overall), third and 2005 first, fifth to SD for the draft rights to QB Eli Manning (who was the #1 pick).
New York Jets (6) to Oakland (4): The Jets want Vernon Gholston, but so do other teams…so they may need to move into the top five to make it happen. The Raiders would still get Darren McFadden at #6.
Price: NYJ gives up its 2008 first, second, fourth/fifth.
Similar trade: CLE gave up 2004 first (7), second to DET for its first (6) to select TE Kellen Winslow, Jr.
New England (7) or Baltimore (8) to Kansas City (5): If the Chiefs decide to let things play out, they could drop back a couple of spots and hope Ryan falls to them, or pick OTs Ryan Clady or Branden Albert. Who would the Patriots or Ravens want? How about potential 3-4 playmaking LBs Vernon Gholston or Derrick Harvey? They'll need to get ahead of the Jets to ensure they get one of those guys, especially Harvey if Gholston goes in the top four.
Price: Both teams give up 2008 first, second, fourth/fifth. NE also has extra 2008 third as a bargaining chip, while BAL only has a compensatory pick (which is not tradable).
Similar trade: KC gave up 2002 first (8), third, and 2003 sixth for DAL's first (6) to select DT Ryan Sims.
Cincinnati (9) to New England (7): The trades for Shaun Rogers and Dewayne Robertson didn't work out, so getting that inside presence in DT Sedrick Ellis becomes pretty important to Marvin Lewis' defense. They don't want to lose him to the Ravens, or other teams moving into Baltimore's spot (see next trade).
Price: CIN gives up 2008 first, second/third & fifth.
Similar trade: SF gave up its 2001 first (9), third, seventh to SEA for its first (7), sixth to select DE Andre Carter.
New Orleans (10) to Baltimore (8): If the Bengals sit back and wait for Ellis to get to them, the Saints may try to beat them to the punch.
Price: NO gives up 2008 first, third. Saints do not have a 2008 fourth. They may not have a 2009 second, either, depending on the production of MLB Jonathan Vilma from the trade with the Jets.
Similar trade: KC gave up 2002 first (8), third, 2003 sixth for DAL's first (6) to pick DT Ryan Sims.
Denver (12) to New England (7): If the Patriots' interest in this draft is the top cornerbacks, then they'll look to move back. Denver is definitely interested in a new left tackle to replace Matt Lepsis. Ryan Clady or Branden Albert could be the target, if they think the Ravens are looking at either.
Price: DEN gives up 2008 first, second, fourth/fifth/2009 third.
Similar trade: WAS gave up 1999 first (12), third, fourth, fifth, 2000 third to CHI to select CB Champ Bailey.
Carolina (13) to New England (7) or Buffalo (11): The Panthers are likely to jostle the offensive line this season due to the loss of Mike Wahle at left guard. Jordan Gross is expected to move to left tackle and Travelle Wharton to left guard to get the top five linemen on the field. In any case, Branden Albert or Ryan Clady are targets they would have to get in front of Denver to get at.
Price (to NE): CAR gives up its 2008 first, second.
Similar trade: WAS gave up 1999 first (12), third, fourth, fifth, 2000 third for CHI's first (7) to select CB Champ Bailey.
Price (to BUF): CAR gives up its 2008 first, one of their two 2008 thirds.
Similar trade: DEN gave up its 2006 first (15), third in 2007 for STL's first (11) to pick QB Jay Cutler.
Chicago (14) to New England (7): The Bears desperately need a new quarterback prospect, and QB Matt Ryan could fall to the #7 spot if the Chiefs and Falcons aren't interested. Even if Ryan is gone, the Bears could be looking for a new tackle like Clady or Albert so they can move John Tait to his more natural right side.
Price: CHI gives up 2008 first, second/2009 first, 2008 third. It has an extra third this year via trade.
Similar trade: WAS gave up 1999 first (12), third, fourth, fifth, 2000 third for CHI's first (7) to select CB Champ Bailey.
Detroit (15), Minnesota (17), or Philadelphia (19) to New England (7) or Buffalo (11): The competition for defensive ends in this draft could be strong considering the drop-off in talent after the first round. DE Derrick Harvey could be a 3-4 OLB, but the Patriots may like the price teams have to pay to get ahead of Baltimore/Cincinnati at 8-9 or Carolina at 13.
Price (to NE): All teams give up 2008 first, second, third/fourth OR 2008, 2009 seconds. (DET and MIN have extra 2008 thirds, PHI has extra fourth).
Similar trade: WAS gave up 1999 first (12), third, fourth, fifth, 2000 third for CHI's first (7) to select CB Champ Bailey.
Price (to BUF): All teams give up 2008 first, second; MIN/PHI may have to add a 2008 fourth/fifth or 2008/2009 third.
Similar trade (DET/MIN): BAL gave up 2000 first (15), second for SF's first (10) to select WR Travis Taylor.
Similar trade (PHI): TB gave up their 2001 first (21), second for BUF's first (14) to select OT Kenyatta Walker.
Houston (18) to Buffalo (11): The Texans' need for a new left tackle may cause them to move up ahead of Chicago and Denver. Clady or Albert would be the target.
Price: HOU gives up 2008 first, 2009 first. They have no 2008 second.
Similar trade: NYJ gave up its 2000 first (16), second to SF for their first (12) to select DE Shaun Ellis.
Dallas (22/28) to New England (7) or Denver (12): The Cowboys' two late first-round picks are a ticket to move up into the top 10 or 12, if they desire one player over all others. If RB Darren McFadden gets by the Jets, look for Jerry Jones to make the deal with the Pats happen. Otherwise, they'll probably be chasing the number two running back (RB Rashard Mendenhall) or cornerback (Mike Jenkins, Leodis McKelvin or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, depending upon which team you ask) before the mid-round teams do.
Price (to NE): DAL gives up 22, 28, 2008 second/2009 first, possibly one or two late-round 2008 picks.
Price (to DEN): DAL gives up 22, 28, exchange middle or late round picks.
Similar trade: NO gave up its 2003 firsts (17,18), second to ARI for their first (6), second, third.
Atlanta (34), Kansas City (35), or Baltimore (38) to Seattle (25), San Diego (27), or Green Bay (30): There could be a real bidding war for late-first round picks this year, as second-tier quarterbacks Brian Brohm, Joe Flacco and Chad Henne will be sought after by the two teams not getting Matt Ryan in the first. That will drive the price "off the chart," so to speak. The Falcons are the odds-on favorite because they have three seconds this year. But they have so many needs that they won't throw away those picks if they would be happy with any of those three young QBs. The Chargers would love to get another first-day selection since they've traded away their second.
Price: ATL could package two 2008 seconds (34/37 and 48), so KC and BAL may have to give up 2008 second, 2009 first.
Similar trade: CLE gave up its 2007 second, 2008 first to get DAL's 2007 first (22) for QB Brady Quinn.

Wow I really dont agree with any of those trade scenarios
Why would the Jets trade up? At 6 they will land either McFadden, Gholston, Chris Long, Matt Ryan or Glen Dorsey. Any of them would be a fine pick and help our team
I do agree with a team trading back into the 1st round to take one of the QB's. We have discussed that scenario on this forum, so it's not like it's anything new

Sounds to me like the Chiefs are really interested in Matt Ryan.

I think New Orleans moving up to eight might be the most likely to happen.

I'm really buying into New Orleans trading up and maybe higher than No. 8. I've read the Saints really want Glenn Dorsey and are looking into trading up to the No. 2 pick.
Another rumor I read recently is that Miami is still working the phones to trade back into the first round for Chad Henne or one of the other second round QBs. Personally, I hope they work with Dallas since Miami would likely give up next year's first round pick to move back in. Any team picking in the late first round should be OK with their team gaining Miami's first round pick for next year.
The question about that last rumor would be why would Miami do it? Paranoia. Simply to make sure no one else beats them to the QB they want.

The part about Miami moving up doesnt make any sense to me. They have the 1st pick in the 2nd round. Do they really think that Brohm, Flacco and Henne will all be gone by the 32nd pick?

They probably don't think all three will be gone. They probably don't want all three either. If they have their sights set on one and believe someone else could make a move ahead of them for that player, then they'll make the first move.

I think the 3 are all comparable. I dont really place one that far ahead of the others. I personally would stay put, keep all my picks and take whichever one fell to me. I just dont think it's worth giving up any picks when they have so many holes to fill

I agree, but as I said before... Parcells has seemed to misplace my number. Jerk.

He called me the other day asking me who he should take #1. I told him Jake Long. I also told him he should try to sign him ASAP. The next day I went on espn.com and read that the Dolphins had signed Jake Long as the #1 pick. I was very proud
