Default Senior Bowl

I thought Cubbs would've had this up by now. I taped the first one on my DVR. Haven't watched it yet but I'm looking forward to it.

Notes I've been reading from the practices:

According to several sources, Sedrick Ellis has been the most impressive player during the practices. No one has been able to handles him, although, OC John Sullivan has done the best job.

Here's a position by position about what I'm reading. This is all based on several reports I've read and not from personal observation since I don't have the NFL Network this year.

WR
Early Doucet is said to be the best receiver on the field. His week is being compared the Dwayne Bowe's from last year... Limas Sweed is lacksidasical. Apparently, Sweed just wanted to show off and tried to catch several balls one-handed. He didn't run routes strongly and didn't create separation. This could be due to his injury and doctors told him not to compete this week. However, he said he thought he had to. I don't get why he wouldn't show more effort, though... Eddie Royal is also said to be having an impressive week... Adarius Bowman has dropped a lot of balls and isn't running routes well. However, they're saying he's the best downfield blocker of the group... Donnie AVery appears to be the fastest player on the field. He's said to have the look of a natural slot receiver...

OL
Gosder Cherilus has been inconsistent. He looks good one play and is blown away the next... OG Drew Radovich has proven he belongs inside. He's showing a very good anchor... Kirk Barton is being called the surprise of the week at the position. He's showing more agility than expected. I think Barton could sneak into late round 1... Sam Baker is said to be solidifying his first round grade... Nebraska's Carl Nicks is being called a mauler and a strong competitor at RT... OC John Sullivan is showing great technique...

QB
Colt Brennan has been bad and inaccurate with no arm strength... Erik Ainge shows the arm strength, but is missing everywhere else... Andre Woodson is the most impressive QB on the field, followed closely by Chad Henne... Joe Flacco is said to have the biggest arm. He could end up being the fourth QB off the board...

LB
Dan Connor and Keith Rivers are shining as expected. Everything I've read has been praise about these two... Xavier Adibi is said to be very impressive in pass coverage, but just as impressive at sticking his nose in the middle of a run play... Shawn Crable is grabbing attention with his reaction time, but he's not doing well in coverage. I can't see Crable going to a system that will use him much in coverage anyway... Beau Bell is injured and won't practice anymore... Bruce Davis is showing great atleticism, but is very raw considering he's never played the position. However, his future is at OLB...

CB
DeJuan Tribble isn't even 5'9. The bigger receivers are killing him off the line and he's struggling to catch up to anyone... Leodis McKelvin and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are shining. McKelvin is said to be more consistent. He's making his case to be a first round pick. I want to watch him play. I'm tempted to buy into his stock... Cromartie has been lined up at CB and S with CB seeming a more natural spot... I've thought for months that Terrell Thomas could end up at safety. From what I"m reading, he's showing that's a possibility as he's struggling in one on one coverage at CB...

DL
Kentwan Balmer was all the rage early in the first day. He measured at 6'5, 308 lbs. and made several nice plays. However, a hamstring injury has him sitting out the rest of the week... Sedrick Ellis is all the rave, though. He's owning everyone he takes on in one-on-one drills... I'm reading mixed reviews on DeMario Pressley. Some say he's showing good burst. Others say he's not showing a good motor... Trevor Laws has a quick first step and disengages from blockers well... Lawrence Jackson has been the most impressive DE and is a natural on the left end... Darrell Robertson is said to be the second quickest player off the snap after Ellis. He's also looking like a natural standing up... Red Bryant showed a ton of hustle. He ran down a RB after a pass play in 7-on-7 drills. He was the only DT to even pursue like that. He's been splitting double teams and pushing the pocket backwards. He's a natural at a 3-4 NT in my mind and I think he could go ahead of Frank Okam...

That's all I got. If you have a question about anyone, then just ask and I'll see what I can find.

I've actually been trying something new this year. I'm writing down notes as I watch the practices. I've watched a total of 3 thus far and here is what I saw.

Joe Flacco has a strong arm but is off target at times. He needs to get used to taking snaps under the center. A few problems there.

Jordon Dizon has created some buzz according to Maylock and Davis. I thought he looked good out there too. I think he's really helping himself.

Lavelle Hawkins looks like he could be kind of a sleeper pick at receiver. He's been making some fantastic catches and runs nice routes.

Sedrick Ellis is a beast. There isn't a lineman there that is able to block him. Although I believe John Sullivan did a good job on him.

Tracy Porter is a good in man coverage but struggles elsewhere.

Kentwan Balmer has impressed me a little bit. I've only seen him twice though so we'll see but I think his stock is rising. I have him #3 behind Ellis and Dorsey on my DT's.

Gosder Cherrilus really impressed me on the first day. Looked really good and looks like a late 1st round pick. 2nd day he was really incosistent. Seems like when we put the pads on he slowed down.

John David Booty is smart with the ball. He checks down more than any QB there. He's really small though.

Chris Johnson is very explosive. You see it right away. This guy could be a 2nd or 3rd round pick with a good showing and I think even a Maurice Jones-Drew type. Maybe not that good but in that type of mold if you understand what I'm saying.

Fred Davis has impressed me. He's big, fast, and looks the part. I really think he has a lot to gain this week.

John Sullivan looks to be the best center there.

Maylock is busting his balls on Chad Henne. Thinks he's the 2nd best QB in the country. I haven't seen anything bad but haven't seen anything special either.

Colt Brennan needs to bulk up. I have not been impressed.

Andre Woodsn has great size. 6'4" 235 and his arm is great. Strong and accurate. However he doesn't have a quick release and holds onto the ball to long. Needs to make faster decisions.

Leodis McKelvin looked really good out there. Maylock had him as his #1 CB in the country and I was heistant but he covered Limas Sweed real well. I think he has the talent to go in round 1. I still like Jenkins better though.

Erik Ainge has been the most inconsistent QB in my opinion. Makes a great throw and then a poor one. I'm not very high on him at the moment.

Chris Williams has great feet and technique. I think maybe a zone scheme would work for him. Needs to improve his hands though.

D.J. Hall looked smoothe out there. He was productive at Bama and has outplayed Sweed and Doucet.

Early Doucett looks the part but durablity is a concern and I saw him having to work on his hamstring.

Jacob Hester appears to be going for FB in the NFL.

That's what I got from 3 practices.

I'll add more maybe tonight after I watch the two practices today.

Gosder Cherilus is probably my biggest surprise so far. Although I hate Mike Mayock, and don't like just shadowing his comments, but Cherilus and Lawerence Jackson have been having some very impressive battles out there. Cherilus did a fantastic job on Jackson in day one, and on day two Jackson seemed to up his intensity a bit, and I don't think that it was so much that Cherilus looked slower with pads on, I think it was more that Jackson's intensity was way up. But even with that said, Cherilus did do a decent job even on day two. He's really helping his stock back up so far

I'm selling on Cherilus. My grandmother has dish so I went over and recorded the second day practice on VHS. Yes, I still have a VHS player.

I wasn't impressed with the guy all season and I certainly am not now.

I've read some good things on Rodgers-Cromartie. Where do you guys think his stock is right now?

I only know what I've read about Rodgers-Cromartie. I think he's a a late first day pick or early second day. He's physically gifted, but said to be very raw. Although, he is holding his own against top competition, according to Senior Bowl reports.

He's looking like a solid 2nd round player. I like what I see. Quick feet and he's really athletic like Antonio. Similar size too. I think he's helping his stock a lot this week. 2nd best CB I've seen all week.

I'm on the McKelvin bandwagon right now. I think he's a top 15 pick and he's getting so much buzz too. Him and Jenkins are in a real battle for that top CB spot.

Throw Aqib Talib into that mix as well. I think he could be in the equation after his workouts.

I'm on the McKelvin bandwagon as well. He's a great kick returner too.
