Chance (San Antonio, TX)
Which two receivers and/or tight ends should I start out of the following: Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, Jerricho Cotchery, and Kevin Walter?
The Jungle
After a slow start, White has emerged as one of the best fantasy receivers. He has 10-plus fantasy points in five of Atlanta's seven games including their last four. He's a solid play even against a Washington defense that has been pretty solid against the pass. Likewise with Gonzalez who is a better play than either Walter or Cotchery even if he's on the same team as White.
Elliott (Delray Beach, FL)
I have to play three receivers in a points per reception league. I have Reggie Wayne, Nate Burleson, Hines Ward and Donald Driver. Which three should I start?
The Jungle
All four are good football players, but Wayne is the only must start on a weekly basis. He has a touchdown in six of Indianapolis' seven games. Realistically, I could see anyone of the remaining three doing some good things this week. However, I like Driver and Burleson slightly more than Ward. The Packers' offense has been one of the best in the league despite giving up a league high 31 sacks. Lucky for Aaron Rodgers, Tampa Bay has only sacked the opposition's quarterback 11 times this season. That should benefit Rodgers and Driver. Also, I absolutely love Seattle's matchup at home against Detroit. I'm expecting big things from Matt Hasselbeck and their passing game which should lead to a solid outing from Burleson.
Dylan (Long Island, NY)
Who should I start in week nine between Roy Williams and Kenny Britt?
The Jungle
The most telling statistic the came from Vince Young's first start since week one of 2008 is that Tennessee receivers caught only six passes. That's the type of game Young plays and the type of performance you can expect from Titan receivers until it's proven otherwise. Neither player is really worth starting unless you're in a deep league. If you're stuck with no other options, Williams should get the start by default.
Daniel (Colorado Springs, CO)
I just lost Owen Daniels at tight end and need a tight end for this week as well as going forward. Which of the following free agents should I pickup: Dustin Keller, Ben Watson, Kevin Boss or Bo Scaife?
The Jungle
The Daniels injury is a tough one to take as he was on pace for 1,000 yards and ten touchdowns this season. You won't be able to replace that type of production. The best strategy might be to play the matchups each week. This week, I like Boss as a top 12 tight end. He put up solid numbers last week and plays San Diego this week, whom gives up a lot of points to opposing tight ends. If I had to choose between the four, I like Scaife going forward as long as he's healthy, but he's certainly not irreplaceable like Daniels was. Play the matchups.
D-Mell (Baltimore, MD)
Who should get the nod in week nine between Ladainian Tomlinson and Cedric Benson? Also, will Alex Smith play well enough to warrant starting Michael Crabtree over Austin Collie?
The matchup favors Tomlinson, but I don't have any confidence in him at all. It's one thing to do it against the Raiders, but despite their losses, the Giants are at least a respectable opponent. It's also worth noting that their defense is getting healthier and their desperate for a win at home. Benson faces a Ravens' defense that doesn't get had twice in the same season very often, but Marvin Lewis has been been committed to running the ball in every game this season and Benson should see enough touches. He has at least 17 or more touches in each game in 2009 and has a touchdown in each of his last three games. I'd go with Benson.
As for your other question, Crabtree has certainly came in and done some things early, but Collie has consistently been involved in the Indianapolis offense so far. I think Houston at Indianapolis is going to be a shootout, and with the Colts' inability to run the ball consistently, they'll need to go to the air. Collie is the better play but not by much.
Joe (San Diego, CA)
Should I take this trade that I've been offered: Jason Witten and Ronnie Brown for Dallas Clark and DeAngelo Williams?
I think it's a good offer, but it looks like a trade you make just for the sake of making a trade. How much better is Brown than Williams? You should ask yourself the same question about Witten and Clark. You can make an arguement for either side which indicates that you're probably not upgrading your team one way or another. In fact, I actually like Williams and Clark going forward more than I do Brown and Witten. That's not to say I don't like Brown and Witten, but the Panthers' running game is their bread and butter and Clark is arguably the best fantasy tight end in football in 2009 because of Peyton Manning. I wouldn't take the trade. |
