Top 30: Week 9 |
|
|
Elite (26-plus points)
1. Peyton Manning, QB, Colts
vs. Texans
This is a permanent resting spot for Manning until further notice. He had a rough game last week against the Niners, but Manning and Co. will be back on pace vs. Houston this week.
2. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers
at Buccaneers
Rodgers is the highest rated passer in the NFL. He's also the most sacked. It'd be interesting to see what kind of numbers he'd put up with a good OL in front of him. Tampa Bay won't be much of a pass rushing threat.
3. Drew Brees, QB, Saints
vs. Panthers
Brees should generally be in the Top 5. Carolina's pass defense isn't shabby, but the Saints' offense is basically unstoppable.
4. Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jaguars
vs. Chiefs
MJD is a risky spot this high. The Jags don't seem committed to giving him the ball. He should touch it between 20-30 times a game. Not a mere eight times like against the Titans last week.
Stellar (21-25 points)
5. Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Seahawks
vs. Detroit
This is the surprise play of the week. Hasselbeck has had only one great game this season and it came against a bad Jacksonville defense at home. He's back in the safe confines of Qwest Field against another putrid pass defense this week.
6. Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys
at Eagles
One would be hard pressed to find a QB hotter than Romo right now. Maybe Aaron Rodgers. Regardless, Romo is on a career-best tear and he's had a history of great games against Philly. Well, as long as those games don't occur in December. Check the calendar. It's November. Play Romo.
7. Frank Gore, RB, 49ers
vs. Titans
The Titans pass defense has been so bad that the run defense has also become suspect. Gore should get enough touches to put up big numbers against Tennessee.
8. Reggie Wayne, WR, Colts
vs. Texans
Wayne is the best WR in the league this season. Peyton doesn't even have to be throwing the ball for Wayne to catch a TD pass. Wayne made Joseph Addai look like an All-Pro QB for one play.
9. Phillip Rivers, QB, Chargers
at Giants
The Giants are decimated in the secondary, missing safety Kenny Phillips greatly. That's not good news against one of the league's most prolific passers in Rivers.
10. Tom Brady, QB, Patriots
vs. Dolphins
Every week one has to wonder: Can Brady possibly have one of those games reminiscent of 2007? This week? He definitely can.
11. Donovan McNabb, QB, Eagles
vs. Cowboys
McNabb either picks apart the Cowboys or doesn't finish the game on the field. That's his history against Dallas.
Super (16-20 points)
12. Pierre Thomas, RB, Saints
vs. Panthers
Thomas is becoming the featured back in New Orleans. He's in a tandem with Mike Bell and is expected to be the big play back of the duo. Reggie Bush has become an afterthought.
13. Ray Rice, RB, Ravens
at Bengals
Rice is one of the most complete RBs in the league. He's just as lethal in the passing game as he is running the ball.
14. Marques Colston, WR, Saints
vs. Panthers
WRs come and go on a weekly basis in New Orleans. That is if they're not named Colston. He is the one consistent factor at the position.
15. Michael Turner, RB, Falcons
vs. Redskins
Maybe Turner can build on the 150-yard performance he posted against New Orleans. Washington isn't a bad run defense, but once the Falcons ground game gets rolling, it can be unstoppable regardless of opponent.
16. Chris Johnson, RB, Titans
at 49ers
The Niners have the best run defense in the league in this writer's opinion. I also believe Johnson is one of the most complete backs in the league and should be fed early and often regardless of who is lining up opposite him.
17. Kurt Warner, QB, Cardinals
at Bears
The Bears secondary can make big plays, but it's also prone to giving up the big play. Warner is smiling about that fact.
18. Dallas Clark, TE, Colts
vs. Texans
Don't be fooled by his listed position. Clark is the No. 2 receiver of a prolific passing offense.
19. Matt Schaub, QB, Texans
at Colts
This isn't a great matchup for Schaub, who is going to start facing tougher competition in the middle of the season. Still, he's been productive thus far and deserves to be on this list.
Solid (11-15 points)
20. Miles Austin, WR, Cowboys
at Eagles
Austin remains the hottest receiver in football. He's now in the top three in fantasy scoring at his position. Keep riding the bandwagon for now.
21. DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles
vs. Cowboys
There hasn't been a better deep threat in the NFL this season. Except for maybe Austin. The Eagles offense appears unstoppable at times and Jackson is a focal point of it. Dallas will be hardpressed to find a DB that can keep up with him.
22. Randy Moss, WR, Patriots
vs. Dolphins
If Brady is near the top of the list, then Moss has to be found soon after.
23. Alex Smith, QB, 49ers
vs. Titans
Smith won't be a mainstay on this list, but Tennessee's pass defense can make even below average QBs look stellar.
24. Greg Jennings, WR, Packers
at Buccaneers
The Packers are making a concerted effort of getting Jennings more involved in the offense. He's been invisible at times this season.
25. DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers
at Saints
The Panthers run game is starting to move along and look more like it did in 2008. Williams is still getting a majority of the carries. Maybe he'll get the red zone attempts this week over Jonathan Stewart.
26. Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers
at Broncos
Big Ben is having a great season and even Denver's strong pass defense will struggle to slow him down too much.
27. Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals
vs. Ravens
Palmer is coming off a bye week, but before the break, he had a 4-TD game. Baltimore's defense isn't what it once was and Palmer could continue his momentum.
28. Andre Johnson, WR, Texans
at Colts
Again, not a great matchup for Houston's Schaub-Johnson connection. Still, Johnson has to be on this list because of his weekly potential.
29. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals
at Bears
Fitz isn't having a brilliant season, but he is consistent. He can only hope his QB bounces back after a dismal 5-INT performance.
30. Brandon Jacobs, RB, Giants
vs. Chargers
If the Giants want to get back on track, then it's time to rely on Jacobs and the ground game. Eli Manning is what he is and cannot lead this team through a complete season. |
