1. Indianapolis Colts (6-0)
Last Week – 2
They aren’t as flashy as previous Colts teams, but they are certainly getting the job done. This week’s overwhelming win against an inept Rams team wasn’t exactly earth shaking, but they are beating the bad teams the same as the good teams, which is what a good team does.
2. New Orleans Saints (6-0)
Last Week – 4
The Saints have won games three different ways this season: Drew Brees single-handedly beats the opponent, Drew Brees has a bad game and the Saints win despite, and now, Drew Brees has a character defining come from behind victory. Any way you slice it, this Saints team knows how to win.
3. Denver Broncos (6-0)
Last Week – 5
I hate to be a hater, but aside from the victory against the Patriots, this team hasn’t had a beaten a solid team. The next two weeks bring the Ravens and Steelers, and If they can survive these two games, I will believe. I’m not convinced.
4. Minnesota Vikings (6-1)
Last Week – 3
Tough loss against the Steelers this week and, once again, I hate to be negative, Brett Favre threw this game away with a late INT. I don’t know if you remember from last season, but it was about this time last year that the wheels fell off in NY too. Beware.
5. New England Patriots (5-2)
Last Week – 11
Easy victory this week, but I’m more impressed how this team has turned things around after a shaky start. More than a little disappointed with randy Moss at this point, but perhaps time has just passed him by. My biggest concern for the Pats is their running game.
6. NY Giants (5-2)
Last Week – 1
I can see losing to the Saints who are playing out of their mind right now, but losing to the Cards? The Cards are decent but if the Giants are as good as billed, they should man handle the Cards. Injuries are starting mount for the G-men.
7. Cincinnati Bengals (5-2)
Last Week – 10
Their blow-out against the Bears was more than a little impressive. After a letdown against the Texans in week 6, this victory was a testament to this team’s resolve. With a bye week in week 8, they have ample time to bask in the glow of their successes.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
Last Week – 9
The Steelers offense owes the defense steak dinner after single-handedly winning this week’s game against the Vikings. After a nice reawakening of the run game in week 6, things were back to normal this week. This continues to be a HUGE issue.
9. Atlanta Falcons (4-2)
Last Week – 6
The Cowboys really took it to the Falcons this week as Michael Turner continues to struggle. You have to hand it to Tony Romo for being lights-out, but the Falcons really didn’t do much to stop the passing game. Things don’t get any easier this week when they travel to New Orleans.
10. Dallas Cowboys (5-2)
Last Week – 13
I have to say that this team has snuck up on me this season. I was a little dumbfounded when I saw that they are 5-2. They are shaky to say the least, but the emergence of Miles Austin has given them a spark. Sometimes that’s all you need. Tony Romo has been impressive the past two games, let’s hope he can keep it up.
11. Philadelphia Eagles (4-2)
Last Week – 7
I just don’t get this team. Are they good? Are they bad? Are they confused? The right answer is probably a little of all three. I like their use of Michael Vick to throw a wrench into things, and Donovan McNabb has been really good lately (with exception to the Oakland game). The bad news is that Brian Westbrook might be out for an extended period of time. That definitely hurts. Coupling this with the fact that they get the Giants and Cowboys in the next two week, things could get dicey.
12. Arizona Cardinals (4-2)
Last Week – 17
Since their bye week, the Cards are 3-0 including a convincing win against the Giants. Here’s what worries me: 29, 72, 22, 24, 32, 67. Those are high rushing yards for the Cards in their first 6 games. Yes, they didn’t have a much of a running game last year when they went to the Super Bowl, but to me, you can only get so far with this before you get caught. If Warner goes down, this team is screwed. They are playing with fire.
13. Baltimore Ravens (3-3)
Last Week – 12
No play, little change!
14. Green Bay Packers (4-2)
Last Week – 20
Their last two games were against the Lions and Browns so they weren’t exactly challenged, but a little bit of confidence can go a long way. They are getting healthy and that’s exactly what they need to get back to form.
15. NY Jets (4-3)
Last Week – 16
A three game losing streak hurts, especially when the Bills and Dolphins are involved, that all ended this week against the Raiders. If they beat the Dolphins in week 8 and they go into the bye week at 5-3, their second half won’t be as pressured. If the go into the bye week at 4-4, things are uneasy.
16. Houston Texans (4-3)
Last Week – 21
They are a little uneven but with two consecutive victories against decent teams, the Texans appear to be heading in the right direction. Matt Schuab is finally living up to the hype he generated when the Texans got him from Atlanta two years ago.
17. San Diego Chargers (3-3)
Last Week – 14
I have zero faith in this team – you just never know what you are going to get. LT is officially d-u-n and their once staunch defense is less-than intimidating. Philip Riviers is the only consistent bright spot on this team and that not enough to make noise in this league.
18. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3)
Last Week – 22
No play, little change!
19. Miami Dolphins (2-4)
Last Week – 18
This team has inklings of being great but, thanks to a terribly hard schedule, they probably won’t rack up too many victories. It was nice to see them keep pace with the Saints, but they just aren’t able to make that leap to greatness. Chad Henne should give Dolphins fans a reason to get excited because he has been more than able. Right now, he’s looking like the QB of Miami’s future.
20. San Francisco 49ers (3-3)
Last Week – 15
After sprinting out of the gate, the 49ers seem a little less than capable at this point. Considering they’ve inserted Michael Crabtree as a starter, they might be getting a little desperate for a spark. Crabtree did decent in his debut, but had you asked Mike Singletary at the beginning of the season to put Crabtree on the field, I think you would’ve gotten a different answer.
21. Chicago Bears (3-3)
Last Week – 8
Wow, this week’s butt whipping was really REALLY bad. Credit the Bengals for keeping the Bears on their toes, but Chicago’s lack of any kind of answer was disturbing. Jay Cutler seemed downright rattled and made some horrible mistakes.
22. Buffalo Bills (3-4)
Last Week – 26
I can’t believe this team is almost .500. Considering their starting quarterbacks havn’t thrown for 200 yards in a single game since week 2, I’d say that 3 wins is pretty amazing.
23. Seattle Seahawks (2-4)
Last Week – 19
No play, little change!
24. Carolina Panthers (2-4)
Last Week – 23
The call for Jake Delhomme to be benched has come two weeks to late. Still, the Panthers have committed to Delhomme’s ineptitude. This week’s 20-9 loss to the Bills should be a HUGE warning sign to John Fox.
25. Oakland Raiders (2-5)
Last Week – 31
Quote of the week by Richard Seymour. When asked how he liked being in Oakland after being traded by the Patriots, he responded: “The weather’s nice!” Classic Oakland!
26. Detroit Lions (1-5)
Last Week – 28
No play, little change!
27. Washington Redskins (2-5)
Last Week – 27
in case you missed Clinton Portis’ helmet throwing mini-tirade on the sideline this week, this team is dead. Daniel Snyder can’t buy his way out of this one. They are horrible but at least the have Albert Haynesworth.
28. Kansas City Chiefs (1-6)
Last Week – 29
Larry Johnson is a disgruntled player already, but to be on such a crappy team, it was only a matter time before he disparaged gays on twitter. When you think about it, it was the Chiefs fault this happened.
29. Tennessee Titans (0-6)
Last Week – 24
No play, little change!
30. Cleveland Browns (1-5)
Last Week – 25
Maybe they should’ve kept Braylon Edwards?!?! I don’t hear Braylon complaining.
31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7)
Last Week – 30
Bucs to go with rookie Josh Freeman this week. Starting a rookie on a totally overmatched team with a coach who really is in over his head is never EVER a good idea. Don’t be surprised if Freeman is killed this week.
32. St. Louis Rams (0-7)
Last Week – 32
Maybe the Rams should consider trading Steven Jackson to help build for the future?
