Heisman Watch |

1. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Get ready for the talk of No. 1 Florida and No. 4 Louisiana State because it's going to consume your television this week. Most of all will be the status of Tebow for this game coming off of a concussion. It's the doctors call, but I have a hard time imagining Tebow not playing Saturday night. He's already one of the greatest college football players of all-time and he could add to his legacy this Saturday by beating LSU after suffering a concussion two weeks prior. How about that for a Heisman moment?
Note: In my last entry, I wrote that Tebow was tied for the most rushing touchdowns in SEC history, but he was actually tied for second. He has since taken over second place on his own and now trails former Georgia tailback Hershel Walker.

2. Tony Pike, QB, Cincinnati
Tebow might be the frontrunner, but only because his team is No. 1 in the country. The truth is, Pike is right on his heels and could give someone like Tebow or Colt McCoy a real run at the Heisman. Pike has thrown 13 touchdown passes and only three interceptions. He's also rushed for two touchdowns on the ground which is actually one more than McCoy at the moment. His team is unbeaten as well and will be ranked in the top ten entering this weekend.
Why isn't he No. 1 then?
He plays for Cincinnati and unforunately that is a problem. I don't think anyone is taking Cincinnati really serious so far this year. They may win the Big East, but it'll be tough for Heisman voters not to give the award to Tebow or McCoy if they're teams' rankings hold up.

3. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
I don't know how anyone couldn't be impressed with Clausen in 2009. He has carried Notre Dame to victory week after week. His final drive two weeks ago against Purdue was very Heisman like and he certainly has the numbers to backup his play too. However, Notre Dame has played a soft schedule and they've already got one loss. The pollsters have noticed and so will the Heisman voters. In two weeks, they play Southern California which will be their biggest game. It's one thing to throw all over Purdue, but doing it against USC would be very impressive.

4. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
My preseason Heisman pick got off to a fairly slow start, but he's starting to come around. McCoy has totaled only ten touchdowns this year, but he and Texas have avoided the upset that often happens to top five teams early on. His schedule will only get tougher with games against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State lurking, but if Texas wins them, he should be right back in the Heisman discussion with Tebow.
Stock: Steady
5. Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech
Virgina Tech has quietly risen back into the top ten and now could be primed to finish the season with only one loss. Williams is the main reason why. The Freshman sensation has rushed for 570 yards and has eight touchdowns on the ground. His 150 yards against Miami (FL) looks even better now that the Hurricanes notched a win over Oklahoma. With an easy schedule and potentially a top five ranking, Williams might be the best shot a freshman has had at the Heisman since Adrian Peterson finished second in 2004.
Stock: Up
6. Jahvid Best, RB, California
Two weeks ago, Best was flying high on most Heisman lists, but now he's dropping and dropping fast. In his first three games, Best ran for over 400 yards and had eight touchdowns, but in his last two games, he has just 87 rushing yards and zero touchdowns. He went from being one of the favorites, to a longshot at best.
Stock: Down
7. Case Keenum, QB, Houston
Keenum continues to put up ridiculous passing numbers and look no further than this Saturday for proof. He threw for 536 touchdowns and five touchdowns against UTEP. That's not a joke. Granted he threw the ball 76 times, but that's still pretty impressive. Yes, I said he threw 76 times in one game. Keenum is obviously in an offense that is designed for the quarterback to put up big numbers, but despite his masterful performance, Houston loss the game and probably loss their BCS hopes with that game as well.

On the Bubble
Jacory Harris, QB, Miami (FL)
Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame
Todd Reesing, QB, Kansas
Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
Joe McKnight, RB, Southern California |
