Rick (Chicago, IL)
I have Lendale White and Jamal Lewis and I'm thinking of dropping one of them for Ladell Betts. Do you think this is a good move and who should I drop?
The Jungle
I like the move for this week because Clinton Portis' status against Tampa Bay is up in the air. If Portis doesn't play, Betts is a top 15 back for this week, as Tampa Bay has given up more than 550 yards on the ground through just three games thus far. However, Betts isn't a long-term solution if Portis is healthy.
Both White and Lewis have struggled this year, but Lewis is the least likely of the two to bounce back. I really think Lewis is done. He's hit the wall and he's not getting back up. He plays in a division with three very good defenses and he's not producing like he has. Not to mention that he's currently hurt and Jerome Harrison is probably going to assume the workload. I would drop Lewis.
Ben Meinking (La Crosse, WI)
I'm forced to choose between Bernard Berrian and Chris Chambers off my bench, but Johnny Knox for Chicago is available in free agency. Should I drop one of my bench players to pick him up?
The Jungle
Knox is slowly emerging as one of Jay Cutler's go-to targets. I would definitely go get him if he's still available. I'm dropping Chambers over Berrian. I think once Berrian gets healthy and starts to build chemistry with Favre, he'll begin to play much better. Chambers, on the other hand, is falling fast in San Diego. He has just two catches on the season and might be Phillip Rivers' fourth or fifth option in the passing game.
I would definitely start Knox over Berrian this week. Knox has a chance to be a top 20 receiver this week against Detroit, whom is prone to give up plays down the field. Berrian still isn't right with Favre yet.
Keith (Knoxville, TN)
My question is whom should I start this week: Correll Buckhalter or Cadillac Williams?
The Jungle
With Moreno starting to see more carries, Buckhalter is becoming lesser of a fantasy option. Moreno has actually received more carries in the last two weeks than Buckhalter. As long as he's healthy, he'll get the carries as opposed to Buckhalter. That lowers Buckhalter's value for obvious reasons.
Williams' situation is a complete 180. When he's healthy, he'll get the carries in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers want to run the ball, but their defense is so bad that they have to throw to try and keep up with the opposing offense. That might not be a problem this week, as Washington has only scored a little over 13 points per game. That's why I would start Williams, especially since it's looking like he's going to be back in his main role as Tampa Bay's No. 1 RB.
Sam (Wichita, KS)
I have a bunch of mediocre receivers playing bad pass defenses. I need your help choosing my top three this week: Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Mike Sims-Walker, and/or Terrell Owens?
The Jungle
Unless the receivers are elite like Larry Fitzgerald or Anquan Boldin, I absolutely hate starting two receivers from the same team. It just doesn't work and one receiver ends up scoring very little for you. That's why I would eliminate Bennett from your list. Between him and Hester, Bennett is the least likely to have a big game against Detroit, especially with Chicago probably looking to run the ball and go up top off of play-action. Start Hester with Sims-Walker and Owens.
Steve (Irvine, CA)
I have been offered Matt Forte and Randy Moss for Adrian Peterson. Should I make the trade?
The Jungle
As much as I like Forte and Moss going forward, Peterson is primed to have a huge season. You just can't give up that type of player. I'm also concerned with Forte's yards per carry career average. Last year, he averaged 3.9 yards a carry and this year he's only averaging 2.5. That tells me he gets the ball, but doesn't do much with it. The offer is respectable, but not good enough to make me feel comfortable enough in giving up arguably the MVP of fantasy football.
Ed (Moorpark, CA)
Which two backs should I start between Pierre Thomas, Marshawn Lynch and Fred Taylor?
The Jungle
Despite the defense he faces, Thomas is still worthy of starting this week. He's the No. 1 back the Saints have and he's also a threat in the passing game. I wouldn't be shocked to see him or Reggie Bush have some nice plays in the flats or in the screen game.
I don't like either Lynch or Taylor this week because both play top three run defenses. Miami is currently third and Baltimore is first. If I had to choose, I would go with Tayor. He has a touchdown in two of New England's three games this season.
Mike (Cincinnati, OH)
Which two of the three receivers: Earl Bennett, Ted Ginn Jr. and Mario Manningham?
The Jungle
Manningham is the no brainier. The Giants are rolling and the Chiefs are playing as bad as anyone so far. In fact, Manningham and Steve Smith is as good as any one-two punch that Eli Manning has ever had. At least they're playing like it.
I don't like the fact that Chad Henne is making his first start for the Dolphins this week. It really takes the value of some Dolphin receivers and diminishes them. You don't know what you'll get out of Henne, but you know Miami is going to run the ball with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.
Bennett, while I rate No. 3 among Chicago receivers this week, is still more likely to have a solid game than Ginn Jr for the reasons above. I'm starting Bennett and Manningham in that situation.
Gary (Madison, WI)
Who do I start Aaron Rodgers or Matt Schaub? At runningback: Willis McGahee or Matt Forte?
The Jungle
As a Packer fan, I remember quite well last year that Rodgers had his worse career start inside the Metrodome. While I think he could have a solid game Monday Night, I much rather have Schaub up against the Raiders' defense than Rodgers against Minnesota.
If there is any week Forte gets going, it's this week. Despite the win last week, Detroit is still not a very good team and the Bears need to get their running game rolling This is the week to do it, so go with Forte at RB and Schaub at QB.
William (Savannah, GA)
Should drop T.J. Houshmandzadeh and/or Roy Williams and pick up Jericho Cotchery and/or Steve Smith of the Giants?
The Jungle
I think you have to go and get Smith. He's off to a great start this season and is probably Eli Manning's most dependable receiver. As far as who you drop, Houshmandzadeh just isn't getting it done in Seattle. Not that Williams is in Dallas, but Williams has more upside than Houshmandzadeh and his quarterback isn't injury prone either. I would drop Houshmandzadeh and go get Smith and then start Smith not only this week, but probably most of the weeks going forward too.
Aminul (New york, NY)
Someone is offering Ryan Grant for Steve Smith of Carolina. Should I take it or ask for more?
The Jungle
It depends on how much depth you've got at runningback and receiver. I think Grant is probably a No. 2 fantasy back, but if you really need help at that position, then this isn't a bad deal to make. Be careful not to fill a need by creating another need though. I think Smith is still going to have a decent year even with the struggles Jake Delhomme is having.
I would always ask for more because you can always go back to the original deal. If he says no, go with the original deal if you've got the depth to replace Smith. Remember, the goal is to build the best team and not stockpile one position. |
