2010 NFL Mock Draft |
|
|
The draft is quite a while away and you may think it's ridiculous to even think of making projections for 2010, but the purpose of this mock draft isn't to nail the first ten picks correctly. That probably wouldn't be realistic, but as a draft junkie, I think it's a fair to give an idea of who are some of the top 2010 prospects to watch this season and what teams might be good fits for them.
The draft order is projected based on my season expectations.
1. Detroit Lions - *Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
Let the Mario Williams comparisons begin. Dunlap possesses a lot of the same type qualities that Williams had coming out.
2. Oakland Raiders - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
With another solid 2009 campaign, Okung could position himself as a top five overall pick. If so, Oakland should take a look at him, but Al Davis probably would prefer the height-weight-speed safety Taylor Mays.
3. St. Louis Rams - *Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
Bradford is my top prospect at the moment. He has the size, smarts, and accuracy to be an NFL quarterback. I just hope he doesn't get nitpicked like some past potential high first round picks have had to deal with when they returned to school.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - *Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
Tampa Bay is rebuilding and they've started with Josh Freeman on the offensive side of the ball. They could opt to go with a defense player if they pick this early next year and McCoy should be in the mix for a top five pick.
5. Cleveland Browns - *Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss
If Cleveland picks this high, their quarterbacks likely struggled. Don't be surprised if Snead comes off the board before Bradford and that the Browns are looking at both.
6. Cincinnati Bengals - Taylor Mays, S, Southern California
Another Trojan for the Bengals' defense. Except this one is worth the pick and chances are Marvin Lewis isn't the guy making the selection if Cincinnati is still picking this high.
7. Seattle Seahawks (From Denver) - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Suh is a powerful player that could be a hot commodity in this draft due to his versatility.
8. Kansas City Chiefs - *Terrance Cody, DT, Alabama
Cody isn't worth a top ten pick yet, but it's also much easier to move down in the bottom half of the top ten than the top half. I think Pioli is going to covet Cody because he's coached by Nick Saban and is a great fit at nose tackle in the 3-4.
9. Buffalo Bills - *Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
Buffalo will likely have a new regime making this pick if they select this high. They'll probably covet the quarterbacks, but if they can't land either Bradford or Snead, Bryant could be this draft's version of Michael Crabtree. TO should be out the picture anyways.
10. Washington Redskins - *Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
The athletic Hawkeye is one of the best left tackle prospects eligible for next years' draft. Whatever big name coach Daniel Snyder hires would be wise to grab him instead of reaching for a quarterback.
11. New York Jets - *Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois
Benn is as talented as any receiver in college football. He needs to put together a good 2009 campaign to solidify himself as a top 20 pick though.
12. Seattle Seahawks - *Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
Berry displays excellent range and might be the biggest playmaking defensive player eligible for the 2010 draft.
13. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
I think Gresham is one of the best receiving tight-ends we've seen in quite a while. Jacksonville should take a good look at him even with their recent struggles in finding pass catchers.
14. San Francisco 49ers (From Carolina) - Sergio Kindle, LB, Texas
Kindle is the best pass rushing linebacker in the draft. He'd be a great fit in San Francisco playing in the same front seven as Patrick Willis.
15. Miami Dolphins - George Selvie, DE/LB, South Florida
Bill Parcells almost always will draft defense. Selvie is athletic enough to stand up in the 3-4 and he has an excellent work ethic.
16. Tennessee Titans - Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss
After Dunlap, Hardy might be the next best pure 4-3 defensive-end eligible for 2010 draft.
17. Denver Broncos (From Bears) - Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
I'm still not sold on McCoy, but I do believe his skills are an excellent fit for Josh McDaniels' system.
18. Arizona Cardinals - Ciron Black, OT, LSU
The Cardinals need to get bigger along the offensive line and Black has the size that fits what Russ Grimm has brought to Arizona.
19. Minnesota Vikings - *Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Haden is primed to be this draft's best corner.
20. Dallas Cowboys - Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida
I think Dallas is a little more vulnerable inside than what most people think. Spikes may of been a top 20 pick in the 2009 draft had he entered.
21. Baltimore Ravens - Jerry Hughes, DE/LB, Texas Christian
Terrell Suggs remains unsigned for the long-term future and Hughes would be an ideal replacement.
22. San Francisco 49ers - Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
Williams could serve as San Francisco's right tackle while Joe Staley remains entrenched at left tackle.
23. Houston Texans - *Greg Romeus, DE, Pittsburgh
The Texans should look to continue building their defense and Romeus is one of the many defensive lineman that could be on their radar next April.
24. Green Bay Packers - C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
Green Bay may look at add more speed to their offense and give Ryan Grant a natural compliment in the running game.
25. New Orleans Saints - *Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
Dwyer could be Deuce McAllister's replacement.
26. Philadelphia Eagles - *Everson Griffen, DE, Southern California
Depending on his season, Griffen could land anywhere from the top ten to the second round.
27. San Diego Chargers - Adam Ulatoski, OT, Texas
The Chargers need a right tackle pretty badly and Ulatoski projects to right tackle.
28. Indianapolis Colts - Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri
Weatherspoon has the talent to emerge as a top 20 selection, but if he falls, Indianapolis should be one of the teams looking at him.
29. Pittsburgh Steelers - *Kristofer O'Dowd, C, Southern California
Pittsburgh should continue to build up their offensive line in next years draft. O'Dowd is already expected to be the top interior offensive lineman in the draft.
30. New York Giants - *Donovan Warren, CB, Michigan
The Giants don't have many needs at the moment, but corner could be one of them in the 2010 off-season.
31. Atlanta Falcons - Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College
The Falcons may look to address their linebackers or corners in next years draft. Herzlich will look to have another stellar season in 2009.
32. New England Patriots - Brandon LaFell, WR, Louisiana State
If their 2009 draft is as good as I think it could be, New England won't end up with many needs at this time next year. However, a No. 3 receiver could be one of them and LaFell has first round talent.
