Top 30 Fantasy Football Players |
|
|
Last week we took a look at the top 5 busts of this fantasy football season and as promised I’ll deliver my top 5 gems of this season.
5. Justin Fargas, RB, Oakland Raiders - Fargas has 920 yards on the ground this year. Despite the fact that he might miss time due to injury, I decided to give him a spot in the top 5.
4. Ryan Grant, RB, Green Bay Packers - How many teams did Ryan Grant raise out of the basement of their respective league? My guess is quite a few. Believe it or not Grant is very well within reach of a 1,000 yard season and he has only been the starter since week 8.
3. Brett Favre, QB, Green Bay Packers - I don’t like to put two Packers on here but when you have an unexpected rise to the elite status of the NFL like they have, it really gives me little choice. You think Brett Favre made the right decision to come back? He’s 2nd in the league in passing yardage and has 24 touchdowns with only 11 interceptions.
2. Derek Anderson, QB, Cleveland Browns - When the year started the Browns were the punch line of many jokes. Lead by Charlie Frye it looked like this team could’ve given Miami a run for their money as the most embarrassing team in football. Then came Derek Anderson and the Browns are now a legit playoff contender. Anderson has put up Pro Bowl caliber numbers this season and might just be the 5th best QB in the AFC.
1. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings - Most of us didn’t really consider Peterson a legit fantasy running back when the year started. Probably a #2 at best. Chester Taylor made most of us doubt whether or not he’d see touches. At first that was the case but then as the year went on Peterson saw the ball more and more and he eventually grew into the Phenom that he is today. Peterson is not only the top gem but he’s also the top fantasy back.
Point scale:
1 point for 25 passing yards
1 point for 10 rushing yards
1 point for 10 receiving yards
6 points for passing TD
6 points for rushing or receiving TD
1. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings
Peterson’s big play ability gives him the nod over the other backs. Despite the down week I have a hard time believing he’s not going to lead the league in rushing, even if Willie Parker currently holds that stat.
2. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
With the Jets and Dolphins on the schedule don’t be shocked to see Tom Brady #1 soon.
3. Ladainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego Chargers
Another bad game by Adrian Peterson and LT might get closer to regaining his rightful spot as the top guy in fantasy football.
4. Brian Westbrook, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
Westbrook has a match up with the Dallas defense this week but the Lions did run on them.
5. Randy Moss, WR, New England Patriots
22 TD’s is still in reach.
6. Terrell Owens, WR, Dallas Cowboys
So far TO has been the model teammate. I wonder how TO would act if he has two bad games in a row?
7. Joseph Addai, RB, Indianapolis Colts
3 touchdowns is a nice way to come out of a slump.
8. Tony Romo, QB, Dallas Cowboys
Romo has come up huge for the Cowboys in the last two games.
9. Willie Parker, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Despite the hammering the Steelers took, Willie Parker ran for 120 yards and now leads the league in rushing.
10. Brett Favre, QB, Green Bay Packers
Favre bounced back with 2 touchdowns against the Raiders.
11. Braylon Edwards, WR, Cleveland Browns
Edwards certainly hasn’t followed the same path of David Terrell. Edwards should be on his way to the Pro Bowl and looks to be one of the elite receivers the NFL.
12. Reggie Wayne, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Another week and another touchdown for Reggie Wayne.
13. Willis McGahee, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Despite the off week, McGahee is on pace to rush for a career high in yards.
14. Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis Colts
Manning continues to play at an MVP level this late in the season which means the person with Tom Brady might not have a cake walk to your league’s championship.
15. Ben Roelisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Big Ben and the Steelers have another tough game against the Jaguars.
16. Derek Anderson, QB, Cleveland Browns
Anderson is 4th in the NFL in touchdown passes.
17. Clinton Portis, RB, Washington Redskins
Portis didn’t have a good week on the ground but did manage 86 yards receiving.
18. Marion Barber III, RB, Dallas Cowboys
Barber scored 3 touchdowns against the Lions and was one of the difference makers for Dallas.
19. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals
Fitzgerald played and caught a touchdown but that was his only catch of the game.
20. Wes Welker, WR, New England Patriots
Another workman like week for Welker. 78 yards and a touchdown.
21. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
T.J. drops due to another off week.
22. Greg Jennings, WR, Green Bay Packers
Jennings caught his 11th touchdown of the season against the Raiders. He looks like a Pro Bowler to me.
23. Plaxico Burress, WR, N.Y. Giants
Burress really lead the Giants to victory last week.
24. Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Seattle Seahawks
I think we’ve found the 3rd NFC Pro Bowl QB.
25. Jason Witten, TE, Dallas Cowboys
Witten leads all Tight Ends in just about every statistical category.
26. Jamal Lewis, RB, Cleveland Browns
Lewis has a pair of 100 yard games in his last 3 outings. It looks like the Browns are going to rely on him more and more this year. He has 20+ carries in 3 of his last 4 games.
27. Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
Wait a minute! The Bengals win and Johnson and Houshmandzadeh don’t score a touchdown. I guess that’s what happens when you go against a Brock Berlin lead Rams.
28. Antonio Gates, TE, San Diego Chargers
Gates caught his 9th touchdown of the year against Tennessee.
29. Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Drew hasn’t had a 100 yard game since November 11th.
30. Edgerrin James, RB, Arizona Cardinals
James drops due to a poor game against the Seahawks. However he has a very favorable schedule coming up. |
