Tony’s 2008 season was interesting in the sense that it wasn’t successful but at the same time he was pretty productive. After his phenomenal 2007 year, 2008 appeared to be a slam-dunk in terms of tearing up stats as well as defenses. While passing for 3,448 yards is still pretty good, Romo’s expectations were so much higher by both the Cowboys and fantasy owners all across the land. His TDs were down by 10 from the previous season and his relationship with one of the best WRs was deteriorating. 2008 was a mixed bag for Romo.
2009 should be something entirely different. Gone is Owens, replaced by Detroit standout Roy Williams who is no slouch. As the Eagles found out, the Cowboys should be better off without Owens and so should Romo. Along with Williams, Tony still has Jason Witten (his favorite target anyway) and a trio of pass-catching backs in the form of Marion Barber, Tashard Choice and Felix Jones. Romo’s number will recover from what I call the “blip” that was 2008, but it’s unclear whether or not he will overtake his outstanding 2007 numbers. Whatever the case, feel safe taking Romo as your #1 guy.
