Its strange to think that 2009 will be the first season since 1998 that Manning-to-Harrison won’t happen. That’s 10-years of hook-ups. Not even Montana to Rice lasted that long. It’s epic really. However, it sure seemed like 2008 was the end of the Manning-to-Harrison era because Marvin was conspicuously absent. In any event, the Manning-to-Wayne era (which unofficially began in 2007) begins in full this season. We all know about Manning’s Favre-like toughness (has not missed a game in his 10 seasons as a pro), the main difference here being that Reggie Wayne is the superstar long threat he has left. Young guys like Anthony Gonzalez will certainly get more looks, but defenses will be keying in on Wayne. Dallas Clark is always great option across the middle and he has become Manning’s favorite target the past two seasons, but there is a bit of a change in the air for the Colts.
Manning will be great as always and get his 4,000 yards and 25-30 TDs, but the new team dynamic with Harrison gone and new head coach Jim Caldwell running the ship, things could be a bit off.
