Our Take on Joe Flacco
by Skipster McNernie |
You always hear coaches and commentators praise QBs for their decision making and doing all the little things. As I’ve always said; a QB only needs to be competent, not making mistakes that kill a team. To me, this describes Joe Flacco to a “T”. I also find it ironic that Flacco plays for the Ravens who famously won a Super Bowl with a guy who made a career as being serviceable – Trent Dilfer. In any event, Flacco had a tremendous rookie season, doing all the little things, lifting the Ravens to the playoffs where they gave the Steelers all they could handle.
Flacco’s numbers aren’t spectacular but they are good enough to draw comparisons from another rookie sensation – Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben has slowly but surely made great strides to becoming an elite QB, but seemed to have a sophomore slump which slowed things down a bit. This is my concern for Flacco: will his second season be a step forward or step backward? No matter what happens, the Ravens have never been a huge passing team so it appears that Flacco will have less pressure on him to perform. If nothing else, a repeat performance of his rookie season would be deemed a successful sophomore season for Flacco. Good for the Ravens, bad for fantasy.
