Our Take on Jake Delhomme

Woe is Delhomme (I’ve been waiting 6 months to use that one). 2008 was the worst full-season of Delhomme’s career. Was it his elbow injury that bothered him? Was it his age (34)? Was it his offensive line (career high 20 sacks)? All I know is that Delhomme, who used to be consistently reliable, is falling faster than Michael Jackson’s creditability. He still has Steve Smith and Mushin Muhammad which is a pretty good combo, so why did he only throw them 15TDs last season? Beats me, but with a newly found killer running game, Delhomme should have had a field-day through the air. I’m officially mystified.
I’m not saying that Delhomme is washed up because, let’s face it, 34 isn’t that old, but at the same time it’s safe to assume that Delhomme’s elbow might not be the same after the surgery. If you draft him to your team, he might decide to get his head out of his butt or he might decide that last season never existed and remember that he got one of the best WR combos in the league. Personally, I leaning towards the former, but stranger things have happened.
