Our Take on JaMarcus Russell
by Skipster McNernie |
I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying Russell is a work in progress. The good news for him is that his 08-09 season (which should be considered his “true” rookie season after sitting out for the start of 07-08) wasn’t the train wreck I personally expected. With 2,400 yards and 13 TDs, Russell helped the Raiders have their best season since, 2004. Al Davis’ decision to bring back Tom Cable which will bring a consistency that should truly help Russell take baby steps. If Darren McFadden can stay healthy, Russell has a chance to not suck too bad this year.
The bad news is that the Raiders have 14 wide receivers and 6 quarterbacks currently on the roster. This tells me that they have no freaking idea what they are doing. Not to mention that Jeff Garcia was brought in this year to…well…I don’t really know why, but it should make Russell just a bit nervous. Overall, snag him in the late rounds in the hopes he makes the leap this season. |
