Our Take on Eli Manning
by Skipster McNernie |
The most amazing thing about Eli Manning is that every year he gets a just a little bit better at playing his position. In 2008, Manning’s yardage fell off a bit as well as his TDs, but in return, he managed to reduce his INTs from 20 in 2007 to 10 in 2008 and for the first time in his career had a completion rate in the 60’s. This says to me that Manning is really starting to turn into your prototypical QB who doesn’t throw for tons of yards, but makes the right decisions for his team – thus the Giants 11-1 start to last season.
My biggest concern form Manning this season is the loss of Plaxico Burress. I definitely think the Giants are better off without Plax but the numbers don’t lie; prior to Plax going out for the season the Giants were 10-1 with Manning’s passer rating hitting 120+ three times during that stretch. After Plax leaves, the Giants go 2-4 (including the playoffs) and Manning throws 3 TDS and 5 INTs. I’m not saying that Steve Smith (the other one) Domenik Hixon and Sinorice Moss can’t get the job done, but the absence of Plax makes it harder for them to hide. Manning should put up more quality numbers this season as he has matured into a top-flight QB, but an elite fantasy point scorer is not in his future.
